The truly obedient person is concerned only with the work of true obedience, obeying purely for God's sake and as with much reverence as if he had received his orders from the lips of Jesus. The more humble the command in human eyes, the more precious is devout obedience in the eyes of God. The truly obedient person fears more to be lacking in obedience than to run the risk of bodily death; after the example of our blessed Saviour Jesus Christ, of whom St. Bernard wrote, saying: remember, that Jesus Christ much rather preferred to lose his life through his bitter Passion, than to fail in obedience to God his Father. (Testament of St. Colette)” Sometimes I do have a judgmental attitude. I find myself being harder on the people I don’t like than on those I do like. My feelings do impact the way how I judge others. It is something I need to work on and, most of all, be aware of. When I did my Myer-Briggs Personality test at the beginning of the seminary, 15 years ago, the weakest point of my character was obedience. This is still hard for me. My mind can be very independent and stubborn. However, it is not the case with everything. I’m very fine with GPS giving me directions. Again, what the Testament is challenging me with is being aware of my judgmental and obedience tendencies and exceptions that I make regarding these two. I have been back from Guatemala for the last week. I am still a little behind with work. I’m glad it is summer. The parish is a bit slower this time of year which is good. I can take time to do things and not have to rush with everything. Finally, the roofers have started their work this week. On Wednesday, I had a meeting with the Maintenance Committee and we looked at the parish needs. We will have a few more projects that need to be looked at before winter. Summer and fall are great times to make some building improvements. I want to say “Thank You” to all who support To Teach Who Christ Is.

Eucharistic Adoration
On the first Friday of each month, St. Colette Parish has Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Adoration begins after 8:00 a.m. Mass and ends with Benediction at 5:00 p.m. It is held in the Chapel. Come and visit for ten minutes or one hour. All are welcome. This week while meditating on a story of St. Augustine and contemplating the mystery of the Holy Trinity it seemed to me that God’s gift to us is a beau-tifully simple but wonderfully complex one. St. Augustine was supposedly walking on the beach, contemplating the mystery of the Holy Trinity in order to understand it. He spotted a young boy go-ing back and forth with a shell full of water and pour-ing it into a hole in the sand. He asked the boy what he was doing. The boy told him that he was bringing all the sea into the hole. St. Augustine naturally told the boy that it was impossible. The boy sweetly an-swered that it was no more impossible than Augustine trying to comprehend the enormity of the mystery of the Trinity with his small human mind. He then van-ished while Augustine was looking away trying to ab-sorb what he had said. The boy, possibly an angel sent by God or perhaps the boy Jesus himself, gave St. Augustine a needed lesson in humility. St. Augustine later sermonized, “If you think you have grasped Him, it is not God you have grasped.” So, perhaps we can stop for a moment and enjoy the simple fact that God, who seems at times complex, who has made the heavens and the earth, loves us. He is Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and alt-hough we cannot grasp all that He is, or the great mystery of God; scripture tells us that God is fully and completely loving, and He holds us in the palm of His hand. So, today let us not over think the great mys-tery of His love but enjoy in simplicity of being loved by God. God is with us. Let us give Him thanks and praise. Oh come let us adore Him.

Demosle gracias y alabanza. Oh vayamos a adorarlo.

THANK YOU TO THE KNIGHT OF COLUMBUS FOCUS Teens thank our generous Knights of Columbus for inviting us to serve at the March 17th Lenten Fish Fry. We have partnered with the Knights of Columbus for about five years now and enjoy the opportunity to serve our community. Each year our Knights of Columbus invite St. Colette FOCUS youth group along with Arlington Heights Parish youth groups to participate in the Lenten Fish Fry and then provide a donation to those youth groups who have participated. This year we are humbled to accept the $500.00 donation that will go towards the Kairos Retreat costs for this year and next year's retreat. This year's Fish Fry was a labor of love to serve so many from our St. Colette's community and to work with Mark Stastny and the awesome men and women from the Arlington Heights Council. May God continue to bless your wonderful works!
