PURPOSE Our purpose is to implement a relevant, innovative and dynamic curriculum through an integrated approach to quality teaching, curriculum planning and delivery, and assessment that meets the diverse learning needs of students, promotes ex-cellence and creates active and informed citizens.

Welcome to Week 5 of Term 2! At Coleambally Central School have a strong focus on making the wellbeing of our students a priority. We believe that if students are happy, feel valued and feel like they belong, then they will learn. We also believe that if anyone, be it community, staff or students feel like their voice is heard then this also leads to a feeling of wellbeing. We hope that everyone in our community feels like they have a voice. Research says that active participation by students in decisions made about their education and school community can have a positive impact on stu-dent wellbeing. We have always known intuitively that this is the case and have acted accordingly. We have an active School Representative Council (SRC) who meet regularly and then bring their ideas to me to discuss. Even though we have been successful in achieving strong student wellbeing, our goal this year is to find even more ways to amplify student, staff and community voice. We will start with a suggestion box in the office. If you feel that you have a suggestion to make, we would love to hear. If you can also provide a suggested solution to a perceived problem, that would be great to hear too. NAPLAN Online Although there has been some negative publicity surrounding the NAPLAN Online assessments, I would like to reassure parents and carers that the assessments were completed at school without concern. Due to this no students will be requested or advised to re-sit any of their NAPLAN Online assessments. Stage 5 Excursion This year we are beginning to implement a whole school excursion matrix, so that all students will participate in an annual year/stage excursion and to assist students, parents and staff to plan for each year. Last week a note was sent home regarding the Stage 5 Excursion to Sydney which will take place later this year with Miss Cox. This is another fantastic initiative to en-sure our students have access to a wide range of educational and social ex-periences. Spray Deodorant Just a reminder to students and parents that spray deodorants are NOT to be brought to school. Please provide your child with a roll-on deodorant which can be kept safely in their bags.

Finally…. This week I will be in Sydney on Thursday and Friday to attend a meeting as a state delegate on the NSWPPA Rural Education Committee. Please see a member of the school executive if you have any concerns. My apology, also, on not being able to attend this week’s K-12 Athletics Carnival. Our door is and always has been open – whether you are happy, sad or mad. We need to know if we are not doing something right, but I also need to know that you trust our motives and intentions. STOP PRESS: The carcase results have come in from the Sydney Royal Easter Show Schools Pig

Competition – CCS has received 3rd place in the team category. This is another fantastic result for Stage 6

Primary Industries, showing our feeding ration hit the mark in achieving consistent lean, well-muscled pig

carcases. While the judge may have thought Babe and Skit were too lean for the market, they were

actually pretty good!

New Addition to the CCS Ag Farm Meet Sam Burgess, a lost little Merino lamb that has been donated to the school. He has lovely soft wool

and is adjusting to the bottle well. We’d like to apologise to Burgo for putting him in Dragon’s colours, we

will have to ask Julie Wiltshire (his new Nan) to knit him one in the proper colours. Burgo will be coming to

school when he is a bit bigger, in the meantime he will be living

at Mrs Fattore’s place. Thank you to the Motbey

family for passing him onto the school.

National Simultaneous

Story Time

On Wednesday, 22nd

May, all the classes and preschool joined together in the

hall to listen to Mr Turtle read ‘Alpacas with Maracas’ by Matt Cosgrove as part

of the National event.

This story was about two Alpacas named Al and Macca. They were both

different. One day, there was a talent show, and they both wanted to join. They

tried choir, dancing and prancing, drumming, crashing and thrashing. But

in the end, Maracas were the one they were good at.

They might’ve came last to a Yak playing Sax, but they still enjoyed it. This story

shows that you should always try your best and take part in everything.

Mr Turtle read it once then some students from 4/5/6 helped to act out all the

actions, as he read it again. Well done to those students for having the courage

to take part.

Everyone enjoyed the story and we hope to do it again soon.

Carnival Book Fair

Reading is my Secret Power

During Week 4 we held our Annual Book Fair in the Library. This year we used Carnival Book Fairs

instead of Scholastic as I wanted to try a different company. I was hoping that we would get a different

range of books. There was definitely more Non-Fiction books than I have seen in previous Scholastic

fairs.

Thanks also to my Book Fair helpers: Nathan Vearing, Xavier Jones and Alex Pound for their hard

work throughout the week. I would also like to thank Mrs. Brown and my Mum for all their hard work.

We managed to sell over $1750 worth of books which means we were able to spend about $400 on

purchasing some new books from the fair. These books will be available in the Library soon.

Thanks to the staff and community for supporting the fair and I hope the opening times before and

after school were beneficial for everyone. Please let me know your thoughts about the Book Fair and

Mortimer Shield

On Thursday 23rd of May Coleambally Central School students

competed in the Mortimer Shield at Jubilee Oval in Griffith.

There were 3 teams for Girls League Tag and 1 team for boys Rugby League. We joined

together with students from St Peter’s Coleambally.

The first team was made up of 3 CCS girls and five St Peter’s girls. Lisa Strachan from

St Peter’s was the player of the day for that team. Everyone had fun and was competi-

tive. Felicity Wilde scored our only try for the day.

Team 2 was made up of mostly Year 5 students from CCS. They went very well and in

their last game they got lots of tags and ended having a tie with the team from St Pats.

Georgia Perkins was player of the day for the team.

Team 3 went incredibly well, winning their first and last games. They ran into a very

strong team in their second game. Montanna Davis was player of the day for this team

with the whole team playing very well.

The Boys team lost their first two games then helped Darlington Point make the final by

beating Hanwood in their last game. Dallas Hickey from St Peter’s was player of the

day.

Everyone enjoyed it and had a great day. Thanks to the parents that came and supported

us on the day.

Zone Cross Country

On Friday 24th May Miss. Lyons and I took a strong team of about 40 students to the

Zone Cross Country at Lake Wyangan. Quite a few of the students were backing up

from the Mortimer Shield on Thursday.

After a comfortable bus ride from school we arrived nice and early to set up our tent

and water. The students and teachers then walked the track.

The girls 8/9 years race was the first to be held and it was great start to the day for Coleambally Central School with Chloe

DeMamiel finishing second.

The boys then took off with Harvey Pound considered a good chance to join Chloe in the Regional team. Being younger

than most of the competitors didn’t stop Harvey and he finished 6th to become one of the reserves.

Our 10 years girls team also did quite well with Jessie Pound just out of the reserves spots with a 7th placed finish.

In the 10 years boys we knew we were going to be quite strong with Alex and Damon Pound in the race. Alex won the race

and Damon also competed well to finish 4th. Both boys will be joining Chloe at Regionals in Gundagai.

Our 11 years girls team all did really well with Felicity Wilde (8th) and Yasmin Inggs (10

th) both finishing in the top 10 then 3

of the other 4 girls finishing in the top 20.

Our 11 years boys team only consisted of three boys with Declan, Nate and Wilkie all competing well.

Finally it was up to the seniors to finish out the day. Hannah finished 11th and Piper 21

st. The boys also tried hard with Jo-

seph coming in 13th in the 12 years boys.

The team supported each other well throughout the day and were very well behaved. It was a great effort for our small

school to finish 3rd

overall against much bigger schools. Well Done Team Coly and good luck to Alex, Damon and Chloe in

Gundagai.

South West Zone Secondary Cross Country

In week 4, 16 secondary students competed at the South West Zone Cross Country Carnival on a warm and

sunny day in Yanco. CCS achieved some excellent results with nearly half of the students qualifying to

compete at the Riverina Cross Country Championships in Gundagai in week 7. Well done and good luck to:
