Rosary Walk For Life
WITH BISHOP ED SCHARFENBERGER
SATURDAY, JUNE 29th , 2019 Join clergy , religious , and the lay faithful in reciting the rosary in procession around the
NYS Capitol to promote the culture of life. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
10am - Mass at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception 11: 30am - Walk to Empire Plaza
11:45am - Rosary for Life 12:20 pm -Talk by Sr. Lillian Peters at the Cathedral of the Im-maculate Conception 1:00 pm - Reception
First Reading:
Again and again in the stories of Acts of the Apostles we hear of the trials and sufferings
endured by the first Christian missionaries because of their proclamation of Jesus. A perusal of chapters 13 and 14 of Acts of the
Apostles reveals that such was the case in each of the cities named in today’s reading.
These first missionaries realized that hard-ship was an inevitable, indeed necessary, part of Christian discipleship. Such had
been, after all, the way of their Lord and master. The Gentiles Faith in Jesus seems
to have been one of the most unexpected happenings in these early days, despite nu-merous Old Testament texts which point to
it. This, too, became cause for rejoicing and praising the Lord. Second Reading:
Throughout Easter Time, we celebrate the
passing away of the reign of death and the new creation of life eternal with God. The vision of John we hear today looks to fulfill-
ment in the full realization of the new crea-tion at the end of time when all is trans-formed and made new.
Gospel:
The first part of today’s Gospel, spoken by
Jesus to the disciples at table with him the
night before he died, takes us back to the
painful moment of Judas’ betrayal and Je-
sus’ imminent death on the Cross. In John,
this is the moment of Jesus’ glorification.
This same reality must be lived out by his
missioned disciples, as we heard in todays
First Reading. It is interesting to hear the
“love commandment,” the second focus in
today’s Gospel, in these last days of Easter
Time (“the little while”) prior to Jesus’ As-
cension. To love one another as Jesus loved
them is the parting command that the Risen
Christ gives us today.

Annual Bishop’s Appeal
We have begun the 65th annual Bishop’s Appeal: “Thanks to YOU” we have shared each year in educating those who desire intellectual and spir-itual growth, we have contributed to the feeding of the poor, clothing and housing those less for-tunate, prayed with and for our sisters and brothers in the Lord. Yes, from this appeal, many blessings are shared with of faith commu-nities and beyond. Our goal this year is $73,451. In the next few weeks, won’t you con-sider how you will participate in this effort and share your pledge? For more information, please visit www.thebishopsappeal.org Celebrating the Burmese Catholic & Christian Community On May 24, 2014, Pope Francis beatified Isidore Ngei Ko Lat, a catechist from Burma who was martyred in 1950, at the age of 31. Isidore was preparing for priesthood when World War II be-gan. Returning home to begin catechizing young children in the Catholic faith, he encountered Blessed Mario Vergara of the PIME Missionaries. After the 1948 independence of Myanmar, both were persecuted by the guerillas in Myanmar and ultimately murdered. Blessed Isidore is the first Burmese Catholic beatified of that country's history. On Sunday, May 26, during the 5pm liturgy here at the Cathedral, we will offer thanks to God for the gift of faith among the Burmese Community and share the joy of the 5th anniversary of Bl. Isidore's beatification with them. All are welcome.

Parish Receptions for Re-Igniting Our Faith
Over the last several weeks, our parish bulletin has been
sharing information concerning the Re-Igniting Our Faith
campaign, intending to strengthen and grow the gift of faith
that is shared among us and around us, both as a parish and
as a community of many parishes throughout our diocese.
We are now planning two receptions at the Cathedral for
parishioners and friends to share more specific information
about this effort. Immediately following the 5:15pm Mass
on Saturday, June 1, and immediately following the
11:00am Mass on Sunday, June 2. Both receptions will be
held in the gathering space of the Cathedral. Please do take
some time to share in one of these receptions so that
you have the opportunity to reflect on the needs we face and
the possibilities of sharing in response to those needs.
And by all means, please pray for the success of this effort:
“God of untiring mercy, open our hearts to hear
your voice. Send the living flame of your love into
our hearts to overflow with abundant generosity of
spirit. May the burning passion of your love for all
transfigure our lives, our families and our parish-
es. Re-ignite in us each day the joy of spreading the
Gospel. May our living faith in your Real Presence
shine in our hearts so that we may bring it to whom-
ever you lead us each day. We place our prayer in
the heart of Mary, under Her title of the Immaculate
Conception, Patroness of our nation and our Dio-
cese, through which we consecrate ourselves to your
Divine Mercy. Amen.”
