CRIZU FOLDED BOOKS ARE HAND FOLDED PAPER SCULPTURES MADE IN ITALY

OLD AND OBSOLETE BOOKS ARE TRANSFORMED INTO ELEGANT DESIGN OBJECTS.

THE BOOKS REMAIN INTACT FOR NO PAGE IS CUT BUT PATIENTLY FOLDED, ONE BY ONE.

THE RESULT IS A SCULPTURE THAT SYNTHESIZES PAST AND FUTURE, OLD AND NEW.

IT UNFOLDS WITH CALM AND RHYTHM, TRANSMITTING PEACE AND INSIGHT.

EACH BOOK IS UNIQUE AS UNIQUE ARE THE BOOKS FROM WHICH THEY COME FROM.

Obsolete books transformed into sophisticated design sculptures

The research of the book is the first and fundamental step. Each book is carefully chosen for the quality of the paper, the oxidation and the patina. Only obsolete books are used, books that have lost their original purpose and are ready to be disposed of. The darkened colored pages, after years spent forgotten on bookcases and shelves, give away their age.

The art of folding can now begin, page after page. Each new crease is to be placed in the precise position in order for the sculpture to take form. And slowly the books begins a new and beautiful life.The artist says: “I love old books, the marvelous smell of their pages, the warm color of  oxidation, the smooth touch of paper…”. The procedure is slow and rhythmical, gesture are

repeated. "It s a job that could be done in a convent or jail" adds the artist.The result are minimal and organic pieces of art, elegant, slightly cerebral.

They have been sold in many parts of the world to anyone who is ready to be surprised by transformation and beauty.

TRUNK

Trunk is the first of our models.

It’s form reminds us of the actual

trunk of a tree from which the book

finds it’s origine. It is absolute and

simple, elegant and noble.

LANTERN The folds of the pages in

Lantern creates an effect that

reminds us of oriental lanterns

where grace and movement live

together with precision and calm.

WAVEWave is an evolution of Trunk. A wave

intersects the main body donating an unexpected motion to the piece.

SAIL The body of Sail is pierced by many

‘sails’ that spring out donating movement

and multidimensional action to the

sculpture.

are protected and look even more special.

03 BLOWN

Blown is a new series of paper sculptures introduced by Crizu. It is a completely new procedure! The research of the book is key for the paper has to be incredibly ‘light’. The pages are no longer folded but still transformed. Blown comes in two

versions, depending from their shape: COLONNA and CUPOLA MATERIAL:

wigs with their artifacts and splendor.
