Introduction

As Bon Jovi sang in the hit song

Livin’ On a Prayer from the late

eighties – “Woah, we’re Half-

Way Home…” Like Bon Jovi,

Casual Pro is halfway done with

the season. The halfway point

brings up several intesteting

things that I’ll take a look at as I

embark on a longer than normal

weekly article (I hope I have time

to get this thing done). Also, I

hope you like the little change as I

thought it would be fun to try

something new and “up my game”

so to speak.

Now, I won’t be doing this every

week as it adds a great deal of

additional time on my end but will

certainly entertain the idea for

continued Mid-Season Reviews,

Hall of Fame that we’ll hopefully

get sooner rather than later, and

possibly the season ending wrap

up.

Ladies, you all used to think this was sexy. Jon Bon Jovi – rock on

brother!

WEEK 8 PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSE

RB Lane Meyer, Sofia Spiders. Meyer wanted two dollars before the game but instead got a couple hundred yards. The “lane” was

clear for Meyer to rush for 281 yards on 39 carries while getting a TD in the Spiders 28-21 win over the Brethren Krewe.

DEFENSE

SS Orry Main, Detroit Muscle. Orry was the man on a mission in the Musle’s 29-23 win over American Horror Story. Main recorded

8 passes defensed, only allowed five of nine targets in the passing game, 3 tackles, 1 tackle for a losses, and 1 knocked on loose.

SPECIAL TEAMS

K 1968 Shelby Cobra Mustang GT500KR, Detroit Muscle. The Muscle ganined a lot of yards in the win against Story but 18 on the

29 points came on the leg of GT500KR. GT500KR hit on FG’s of 19, 47.5, 32.5, 20, 34.5, and 19.5). The last one, a 19.5 yard make,

won the game as the game was tied up at 26.

WEEK 9

WEEK 8 UPSET OF THE WEEK

Nothing over the top this week although FSS beating SMC caught my eye. SMC came in at 6-2 while FSS came in at 3-4 and almost

needed this game. They came in and got the win 30-10 to even the record to 4-4 heading into the break.

WEEK 9

WEEK 9 PREDICTIONS

WESTERN CONFERENCE

Hattgenstein Volunteers vs. Butte Pirates - The Vols continue to fight but sometimes putting up your dukes does not guarantee you'll

knock someone out. I think the Vols will score more than the norm here as the Pirates like to give points away for free (38-10).

Prussian Black Hussars vs. Dot Fathers - The Prussian chemistry is starting to get back and I expect we'll start seeing some better play

out of them. Nothing like beating up on little brother (24-20)

Orlando Colts vs. Machu Picchu Inscrutable Pikachus - Always tough saying "I've lost X games by seven or less points" when wins

matter. It was good to see the Colts get that first win but the Colts won't fall into that sentence as Machu will kick the second half off

in style (31-10).

Green Bay Maulers vs. Brethren Krewe - The Krewe certainly not been an "LOL" team this season despite a few losses. They've got

some wins under their belts and played some close game so no way in hell I'll be overlooking them. As always, I'll be picking my

team here but I expect a battle from Brethren (27-20).

Sofia Spiders vs. Foy Destroyers – Sofia is playing lights out and I’ve been waiting for Foy to show up and destory something. My

patients has run out and the Spiders will weave some webs all over the Destroyers (38-16).

Saturday Morning Cartoons vs. Charlestown Chiefs - What a good way to start the second half - a little separation among the league

top teams. This one will be interesting but feel not many teams are playing as well as the Chiefs are right now. I have the Chiefs

chucking on a late score to make this appear not as close as it really will be (37-20).

Baby King's Men vs. Orlando Elements - I've been off the Elements for a while and what better way to hop back on than to kick off

the second half. Look for the Elements D to slow the King's Men down while the O heats up and puts enough on the scoreboard to

keep Baby at bay (27-17).

4

Page 8: Casual Pro's Mid-Season Review

WEEK 9

Gridiron Phantoms vs. Florida State Seminoles - FSS needs to start winning right now to get back in the top eight. Unfortunately,

starting the second against a hot team may not be the best situation. I've got the Phantoms winning this game with a solid D and

explosive passing attack (34-23).

EASTERN CONFERENCE

American Horror Story vs. Motor City Mustangs – I like the match up here as I feel its important for both. I give the edge towards

Story with the passing game which I think will be key late in the game (20-19).

Brethren Krewe Man-O-Wars vs. Corpus Christi Border Guards - Border Guards should roll pretty easily in this game (62-0)

Midwest Mafia vs. Off In The Shower – Coin toss game in my book and whoever can get the ground game churning will win it. This

one may be a FG contest and I have The Shower hitting a few in the 4th to provide the difference (12-9).

Sic Semper Tyrannis vs. DIABLO DOTS – I dare you to find me a better start to the season than these two. It will be a lot of running

and screens but neither D will break. I’ll go with a rejuvenated DOTS team in another battle between these two (16-13).

GranwinsnellPolarKats vs. Bier Markt – The Kats seem to play with me like a string of yarn. I haven’t pegged them and I’d the most

often team I’ve got wrong my picks this season. Markt’s O will not prove me wrong this week (31-17).

Detroit Muscle vs. CHAOS Society's Flaming Blue SKULLS – Muscle is starting to assert themselves into the upper echolon

category. The SKULLS are getting better in their games but not at a rate to beat Detroit. Muslce in a fairly easy one (34-10).

Uh Oh! HOOD gone Casual vs. White Lightning – Lighting won’t be able to keep the HOOD offense in check the whole game and

they’ll give up a big play or two with HOOD being HOOD (27-10).

San Diego Samurai vs. BOLN Farmers Market - BOLN will either score 500 or six in this one (I never get it right). I do think this is a

coin toss and give the slight edge to the Samurai (17-12).

WESTERN CONFERENCE

MID-SEASON POWER RANKINGS

1. Charlestown Chiefs– The Chiefs are as playing as well as anyone in the league right now. Yes, they lost to Machu in week three

but that was five week ago. I don’t see many getting to CC this second half

2. Machu Picchu IncrutablePikachus – The “old men” are already starting to see some better competition. With another half season

of decline it will be interesting if the current “King of Casual” can retain the thrown.

3. Sofia Spiders – Spiders have beat the teams they should beat but need to elevate their game to beat the better teams in the

conference. They’ve played some close games but getting to the top of the mountain isn’t climbing over it. They’ll get their

opportunity with a very strong second half schedule with what I call five “oh shit” games. Spiders have bounced back from last

seasons letdown and will push for a homefield game.

4. Saturday Morning Cartoons – SMC limps in with a big loss to FSS but that shouldn’t take away from the full body of work.

They’ve beaten some solid teams but will be tested more in the second half. I’m not convinced they’ll be staying in the home playoff

spot yet. They will have the chance to prove me wrong but I’d guess a five through seven right now.

5. Green Bay Maulers – I’m not a nacissist as I know I don’t have a “great team.” I try to compete with everyone and give it the

good old college try. I have some tough games coming up and think we’ll win and lose a few of those but still have a shot at getting

into the playoffs.

6. Gridiron Phantoms – I’m reluctant to give up on this team as chemistry has hurt them and they haven’t played bad against some of

the teams higher up in the standings. They have some games against top teams coming up but believe the chemistry heal will be

helpful and allow the team to make a push for a playoff spot.

7. Prussian Revolution – I thought the Revolution would come out of the gate stronger but they did have a noticable chemistry issue.

So, I’d expect some better play. They have the ability to reel off five straight before ending the home stretch with FSS and the Chiefs.

I don’t expect this team to be clinging for their playoff life but if they start slow they can create their own issues.

6

Page 10: Casual Pro's Mid-Season Review

WESTERN CONFERENCE

8. Dot Fathers– Have lost three in a row and went from the top to quickly starting to sweat about making the playoffs. It’s a bit too

early for me to bust out my swami vision but I have the Fathers in some deep deep deep water right now. We’ll know for sure where

they stand after week nine and 10 but they can just as easily recover and move up spot or two.

9. Florida Sttae Seminoles – I’m not sure how you can get a stronger first half (HOOD, Foy, Machu, Elements, Dot, Chiefs, and

SMC). Now, FSS will need to regroup and attack the second half to get back into the playoff picture (not like they are far out – just

one game). I have them at no. 9 but they’ll be pushing for a 6-8 seed after the dust settles on the season.

10. Orlando Elements – The Elements have to like the look of the second half in possibly playing several teams with zero cares.

Those zero cares will let the rushing QB’s run wild and to chalk up some easy W’s. It still will not be enough to garner a playoff spot

but enough to avoid demotion.

11. Brethren Krewe – They may have only two wins but paying attention in the league tells me they are close – real close. This team

won six games last season and I think they can get close this season as well. Nothing has come easy for this team losing three games

by seven or less points but they’re not asking for a handout either.

12. Baby King’s Men – Have some older dots that will hurt coming down the home stretch but like a few of the other teams just don’t

score enough points to win games against better teams. Now, they beat Machu so we know they are capable of beating anyone but

they need some more consistency all around. Have a strong 2nd

half schedule so we’ll get to see what they’re made of.

13. Orlando Colts – This team was hammpered by a huge chemistry hit but have shown the ability to overcome that and still play

strong. They will no doubt be playing much better in the seond half of the season and that will serve them well. They’ll need to win

some games to avoid demotion and if I were them I’d circle the Butte and King’s Men games as must wins.

14. Hattgenstein Volunteers – This team is a bit older and it’s going to start hitting them right now. They won’t be a push over but

they won’t be a strong Vols teams as we’ve seen in seasons past.

15. Foy Destroyers – I thought Foy would get on track with the last three games of the first half but what resulted was two losses and

now sit with only two wins. They’ve lost a few close games but I don’t see many wins coming down the second half of the season.

16. Butte Pirates – At least the Pirates try (or it seems like it – I wasn’t sure at the beginning of the season). This is one team that will

be better with chemitry healing but it may be to little to late at the end of the season. I do not think they avoid demotion.

WESTERN CONFERENCE

GREEN BAY MAULERS (7-1)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTION:

8. Green Bay Maulers - I've never said there would be no bias in my "objective" writing. Maybe this is wishful

thinking on my part but I'd like to think I have a shot at a playoff spot (if you beat me I have the power of words to

take you down in the weekly picks).

OVERVIEW:

My dots have played solid enough on the season and with this or that could be a bit better. Overall, I’m pleased

with the effort on the field and I’ve had some learning moments.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

First half would be considered slightly easier than the upcoming second half with some of the WC’s hired guns left

to play in Machu, Chiefs, and SMC. Not easy by any stretch with Foy, Elements, and FSS looming as well.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

The competitor in me says 8-0 but the realist in me says I need to look at my remaining schedule to know I’ve got a

tougher second than first half. I could very well split and end up in a fight for a lower playoff seeding. I’ve had a

fun first half of the season in my rookie season and look forward to a fun and competitive second half of the

schedule.

11

Page 15: Casual Pro's Mid-Season Review

WESTERN CONFERENCE

CHARLESTOWN CHIEFS (7-1)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTION:

4. Charlestown Chiefs - A name well known in the West as they have good seasons year after year. With any of my

top tier selections any of them can come out of conference on top and the Chiefs are one of those teams.

OVERVIEW:

Chiefs looking real strong to me. They have solid diversity on offense and one of the stronger defenses in CP.

They did lose to Machu but come playoff time the Pikachus will simply not be the same team as when they beat the

Chiefs in week four.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

Pretty balanced from the 1st and 2

nd half schedule but I lean to the second being slightly stronger with SMC,

Spiders, GBM, and Black Hussars left. Also, the Chiefs would be wise not to discount the Phantoms or Vols as

both could reach up and strike.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH: The Chiefs very well could run the table in the final

eight although I don’t believe it to be a walk in the park. There’s no doubt in my mind Charlestown will be

battling for one of the top two seeds in the West as you can already pen them in for a home playoff game.

12

Page 16: Casual Pro's Mid-Season Review

WESTERN CONFERENCE

DOT FATHERS (5-3)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTION:

7. Dot Fathers - They were a playoff team last season but there's no guarantee this season. The team flast out needs to play

better against the top tier teams (only beating one playoff team on their schedule from last year). That won't cut it this

season.

OVERVIEW:

A little convenient the change of ownership coincides with the meeting with the Maulers. A strong start to the first half

coupled with a little letdown in the final three leave the Fathers wondering which way is up. It’s that way! A big win over

Sofia makes this team capable of beating most teams.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

Get your hanky out as it’s nothing to sneeze at with Prussian, SMC, Gridiron, and Machu. You chuck in a few other teams

that will be playing for pride and possible demotion and you have yourself a cocktail you do not want to drink.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

I had the Father’s pegged at the no. 7 spot to kick the year off and I feel I’m on target with that prediction. If they expect to

move up they’ll need to get an upset or two along the way. It’s not impossible but they’ve struggled the last three weeks

and those three could easily stretch into five if they’re not careful. I expect the Fathers to make the playoffs but I don’t have

them higher than a seven or eight at this time. Also, if they’re not real careful they could be on the outside looking in if FSS

decides they want to join the fun.

13

Page 17: Casual Pro's Mid-Season Review

WESTERN CONFERENCE

FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLES (4-4)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTION:

5. Florida State Seminoles - Demoted, re-promoted - does this effect morale - probably not but FSU made the

playoffs last season and their team is looking even better than last year. It better be, there won't be many layup

games in the West.

OVERVIEW:

Right now FSS is on the outside looking in but that can all change as quickly as its said. A tough schedule coupled

by a close loss has them staring at a .500 record. They’ll have some must win games coming down the home

stretch and I think they’ve shown they can beat anyone but at the same time can be beat by anyone.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

I see four possible “gimme games” but four that they could easily lose as well. I would find it hard pressed to find

anyone who would say the second half compares to the brutal first half which featured HOOD, Machu, Fathers,

Chiefs and SMC.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

FSS just seems to play better when that passing attack is working. When it fails they seem to struggle. I was

impressed with the ground game against SMC showing when you have to defend the run and pass against this team

it makes the O better. FSS isn’t a shoe in to the playoffs but they will keep knocking on the door.

BRETHREN KREWE

PRE-SEASON PREDICTION:

14. Brethren Krewe - This group has several teams here in CP but I'm not sure if this team gets the best dots but one thing I

do know is they did not beat a playoff team of the six wins and I think the conference is stronger than last season. They'll

have their work cut out for them not only to achieve the six wins from a year ago but to be a playoff contender.

OVERVIEW:

The Krewe only banged out two wins but I like what I see (three losses by seven or less). Keep an eye out of them

as they are going to win a few people don’t expect

BABY’S KINGS MEN

PRE-SEASON PREDICTION:

11. Baby King's Men - They just missed the playoffs last season due to losing some tie breakers and I have the

feeling they'll be in a similar battle this season of trying to get in.

OVERVIEW:

BKM started out the season just struggling going 0

have a good read on this team as the O and D can struggle on any given night and the overall lack of consistency

gives me fits.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE

I thought the first half was much stronger with Story, Sofia, Prussian, GBM, and Machu. They have FSS, Chiefs,

SMC, and Gridiron waiting for them in the second half. They can pull an upset or two and do some shaking up in

the playoff picture.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH

They missed the playoffs last season and I’m not sure they have enough in the tank to make a galient effort this

season. They’ll win some games in the second half just not enough for the PO’s but enough not to get sent back to

the Regional Pros. As they’ve already shown they can upset anyone so don’t look past this team or you’ll be

making a big mistake.

WESTERN CONFERENCE

BABY’S KINGS MEN (3-5)

They just missed the playoffs last season due to losing some tie breakers and I have the

feeling they'll be in a similar battle this season of trying to get in.

BKM started out the season just struggling going 0-4 but have regrouped nicely to go 3-1 in the last four. I don’t

OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

I thought the first half was much stronger with Story, Sofia, Prussian, GBM, and Machu. They have FSS, Chiefs,

SMC, and Gridiron waiting for them in the second half. They can pull an upset or two and do some shaking up in

COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

They missed the playoffs last season and I’m not sure they have enough in the tank to make a galient effort this

WESTERN CONFERENCE

MACHU PICCHU INSCRUTABLE PIKACHUS (7-1)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTION:

1. Machu Picchu Inscrutable Pikachus - I'm a firm subscriber in you stay on top as long as someone doesn't knock

you down. Currently, MPIP has a 12 game win streak going and consecutive CP titles to their resume - I'm sure

tautology is saying "COME TRY TO TAKE IT."

OVERVIEW:

You read it in the forum after the loss “must be the decline.” I’d calm down on that chatter for a while (I’d wager

this team would make the playoffs next season in their second season of decline). This team is still one of the top

teams and should not be overlooked at all. Are they going to get a little weaker – sure. Are they still bad ass –

sure.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

The problem about being the current King of Casual is you get your opponents best shot each and every week. So

far so good but there are some games coming up that won’t be easy – Sofia, GBM, and Prussina. Each are easily

winnable as the Pikachus head for home.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

It may be just a case of closer games and not losses. I would peg Machu by the end of the season they’ll still be

one of the top two seeds come playoff time. Just for refeence at seasons end – current average player value

1346.06. We’ll see how far they drop in the next eight weeks (they were 1384.03 in the pre-season).

WESTERN CONFERENCE

ORLANDO ELEMENTS (2-6)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTION:

13. Orlando Elements - Not sure what to make of the team in regard to style. I could easily have them anywhere in the

top eight but if teams shut down the QB run (if they can) I'm curious to see how they respond. Should be the fastest

team to move up on the rankings list throughout the season as some teams won't factor the rushing QB's and get lit up

OVERVIEW:

You see the amount of cares and knowledge among CP coaches. The Elements were rarely tested in Regional Pro with

the rushing QB attack but it’s been shut down a great deal this season. The D is pretty solid but when the O goes three

and out over and over they just start to wear down.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

I thought the first half was much tougher and can really see Orlando doubling up the win amount during the second half

of the season. It will be a combo of a weaker schedule and lack of cares at the end of the season (CP coaches may

surprise me though so it’s not a given).

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

I was real curious how the Orlando O would do this season. So far it’s been a miss as even a terrible Butte team shut it

down. A few teams have struggled wrapping their arms around it but the one off’s done equate out to many wins on

the big board. I do see the O giving some teams fits here and there and that will keep the Elements out of the demotion

chatter as the season begins to wind down.

and adding some dots from that team the Phantoms better not be overlooked.

OVERVIEW:

Took two of the three losses in weeks two and three

played much better but is that because they are getting better or due to the schedule strength? Time will tell.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE

The first half wasn’t easy and they came way with three losses and they’ll have some hard games in the second half

facing FSS, Chiefs, Fathers, and Spiders. We’ll see if they are improving as the sesaon goes by.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH

I still like the team despite the three losses. While they may not finish in the second spot like I predicted they’ll

make the playoffs as the chemisty edges closer to 100. They still need to show me they can beat the big boys and

we get to see in the first three weeks (circle this one

PRUSSIAN BLACK HUSSARS (5-3)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTION:

3. Prussian Black Hussars - Had a real nice first season back in CP and will be looking to improve from the

conference title game appearance. They have the tools to get to the top of the conference and showed last season

they can beat anyone.

OVERVIEW:

I’ll go ahead and say it – I did not expect this team to have three losses at this point in the season. If past is any

indication this owner did win an opening round as a #8 seed way back in season 19 so don’t discount the Black

Hussars just yet.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

About the same strength and they get to play Machu and the Chiefs as the hard games. They’ll likely need to win

both to get back into the top four discussion and I’m not sure they are there just yet.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

The team didn’t raise a flag and say “our chem sucks so we will suck for a minute.” I fully expect the team will get

the wheels back on track as the second half works itself out but the Black Hussars need to prove it on the field as I

can type as much as I want. I’m not a tiny dot performing on the screen. Expet a stronger second half and a push

up in the standings.

SATURDAY MORNING CARTOONS (6-2)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTION:

6. Saturday Morning Cartoons - Have lost five games in each of the past two seasons. If they can start reducing that

number they'll be able to challenge for a home field first round game. If not, expect them in the six through eight

spots or be left out of the playoffs.

OVERVIEW:

SMC had played real well up until the week eight game against FSS (lost 30-10). They didn’t look sharp but not

sure if it’s something to make a fuss about as those sorts of games happen from time to time (that whole 17 of 41

passing).

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

Evenly split up for the most part as they get the Chiefs, Fathers, Gridiron, Sofia, and GBM. It won’t be easy by

any stretch but SMC should be up for the challenge and close the season better than they finished the second half.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

SMC has a big time favorable closing slate and that will help the push for a possible playoff game. Noted in the

preseason write up was they’ve lost five each in the last two seasons. That may very well come true for the third

straight sesaon and if it does they can kiss a homefield game in that first round game.

22

Page 26: Casual Pro's Mid-Season Review

WESTERN CONFERENCE

SOFIA SPIDERS (6-2)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTION:

10. Sofia Spiders - First time missing the playoffs in CP was last season. I'll need to see something to determine if

it was a fluke or a new trend. I guessing fluke but this isn't the same west as last season.

OVERVIEW:

It’s safe to say the season the Spiders had last year was a fluke. While I don’t have them at what I’d call their

previous elite status this team is going to make the playoffs and see where the chips fall from there. They’ll have a

shot at a homefield game with

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

The second half is much stronger than the first. True, the Spiders gave the Mauler’s the only loss on the sesaon so

far and beat Prussian handily they still have upcoming Machu, FSS, Chiefs, SMC, and Gridiron. I have the feeling

Sofia will be just fine in closing out the season.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

What I like about Sofia is that consistent ground game with the league’s rushing leader and only RB over 1,000

yards - Lane Meyer (awesome name by the was – get LOL’s out of me). The Spiders are more than just a RB as

their D has forced turnovers while limiting opponents oppoturnites. I like the combo and this team.

WESTERN CONFERENCE

HATTGENSTEIN VOLUNTEERS (3-5)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTION:

9. Hattgenstein Volunteers - Have stated this is the final season in the forums so they'll try to go out guns a blazing.

I'm not sure how many rounds the pistol holds and I'll need some game before I get a better feel for them but they

have a strong tradition in CP so they may be one of the many who could knock me out of that #8 spot.

OVERVIEW:

On 8/4 owner Jayadamo made a post “My team sucks.” This was as his team dropped to 2-3 on the season. I don’t

think Jay is far off although I wouldn’t say suck. The Vols have struggled after a 2-0 start but with a roster of 35 of

51 dots getting worse its understandable this isn’t your typical Vol team that makes the playoffs year in and year

out.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

Solid slate rounding out the season with Elements, FSS, Cheifs, SMC, Phantoms, and Father’s. There are a couple

winnable games but it won’t be enough as the old Vols just won’t have enough in the tank.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

I had the Vols at no. 9 as I thought they may fight for a playoff spot but knowing a majority of the team is in a

decline, the team is carrying only 51 dots, and the team in their final season I don’t see much of a fight coming out

of them closing out their final season in CP.

FOY DESTROYERS (2-6)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTION:

12. Foy Destroyers - Was tough putting Foy here as think they'll be better than this but need to see how they do

against the big boys and like Orlando below should be a fast riser in my rankings.

OVERVIEW:

I’m real surpised Foy is sitting at 2-6 and while I had them 12th in my pre-season ranking I thought they would

easily start an accent up not down. They’ve dropped a couple they could have won that will likely cost them

closing out the season – three losses by four or less points.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

Ouch – just real tough in the second half with four possible playoff teams and some teams that will be fighting just

to avoid demotion (those may be real dangerous).

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

Close losses can rub a person the wrong way so I’m not sure if Foy regroups and comes out firing or packs it in and

say “F IT.” Coming up with Foy I think they’ll respond well but not sure they get wins they’ll need to avoid

demotion. I have them in the demotion mix right now.

ORLANDO COLTS (1-7)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTION:

16. Orlando Colts - They were the bell of the ball last season but what looks like some struggles to fill out the

roster means the clock is striking midnight for Cinderella.

OVERVIEW:

Tough first half for the rookie team as three of the seven losses are by seven or less points. They’ve dug a deep

hole that I don’t think they’ll be able to get out of.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

Not much looks easy on it save for the Butte game. Real tough second half with Machu, FSS, Chiefs, SMC, and

Gridiron. They are still a little away on the chemistry issue so it won’t be 100% Colts right away either and that’s

what they need.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

With what I said on the strength of schedule and current chemistry it’s still going to be a struggle for the Colts. I

expect some better play but against a stronger schedule. The Colts are going to be in a huge fight to avoid

demotion this season. Right now I have them getting demoted.

MID-SEASON POWER RANKINGS

1. Sic Semper Tyrannis – I’ve liked the body of work on O, D, and special teams and they’ve won a few wars. I’m not completely

sold if they have to pass to win they can do it but until tested we may never know.

2. DIABLO DOTS – Even sitting with two losses I’m confident the DOTS will surge in the second half and claim the second spot

having already beat BM

3. Bier Markt – I’ve like the high powered O and the solid D seen but as I’ve stated they need to do it against the BIG boys to garner

my full attention.

4. Detroit Muscle – I’ll go ahead and peg the Muscle in the four seed as they’ve beaten HOOD and lost a dominate game to Sic. They

still have a couple tough games left to lock the spot down.

5. Uh Oh! HOOD gone Casual – Will need to beat DIALBO and/or BM to get a home game. Having already lost to Detroit and Sic

puts them behind the eight ball as far as any tie-breakers we may see (and I expect to see among the top five).

6. Motor City Mustangs – I expect the Stangs to have a great second half and not only make a push for a playoff spot but to win their

way into the sixth seed.

7. Granwinsnell PolarKats – A tough second half will drop the Kats down a few notches but needing only a couple wins will get this

team into the playoffs.

8. American Horror Story – Story will be in a fight with several other teams to get the seven and eight seeds. I like the look of Story

and think they get the nod.

9. Corpus Christi Border Guards – I’ll say it again – week 14 will be huge for the playoffs. The Border Guards simply must beat

teams they should and a playoff spot will take care of itself.

10. BOLN Farmers Market – BOLN will get some W’s but it won’t be enough to touch the playoffs this season.

27

Page 31: Casual Pro's Mid-Season Review

EASTERN CONFERENCE

11. San Diego Samurai – I’m not sure the O will be able to flip a switch and become a feared part of CP. Granted, it doesn’t have to

be but you won’t win a lot of games kicking FG’s and giving up TD’s.

12. Off In The Shower – The Shower better get to winning as we need them around for some jokes next season. Jokes aside I think

they can avoid demotion with a stronger second half.

13. Midwest Mafia – Midwest won’t read this and say “Mk thinks we will demote – let’s give up.” Midwest will be shooting

anywhere from 10-13 but like many of the East’s 4-4 and below teams the O needs to make an appearance.

14. White Lightning – Have not been overly impressed and I was expecting to be impressed. They have to get to work to move out of

the bottom four.

15. CHAOS Society’s Flaming Blue SKULLS – Have the one win but the O has struggled being shut out three times. It’s more than

the O as the D has given up over 42 points in six of eight games.

16. Brethren Krewe Man-O-Wars – I haven’t seen one thing that makes me think this team can turn it around and win a game or two.

I expect this team will be one of the demoting teams at seasons end.

EASTERN CONFERENCE

SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS (8-0)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTIONOVERVIEW: 4. Sic Semper Tyrannis - SST looked great in their debut season of

CP and will look for continued success this year. I don't think they'll need to look very far as they have a top notch

team that can beat anyone.

OVERVIEW:

Sic is the only team without a loss in all of CP. It hasn’t all been humming birds and rainbows as two tough games

showed the mettle of this team. A person learns more about the team in those tight ones and Handmonster

certainly appear to be on top of her game this season.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

I only see DIABLO and Bier Markt as challengers left on the schedule and we get to see the DIABLO game in

week nine. This team won’t be surprised by anyone else and we’ll see a lot of zero and three points given up

against four teams with two or less wins.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

It won’t be a layup getting to 16-0 but this team certainly will have the shot at a perfect regular season. At the end

of the season it won’t matter it will be how far this team gets in the playoffs. I have a feeling they will be making a

deep run and may just lead the East heading into the title game. I don’t see anything less than a two seed but

expect them to capture the overall number one (this will get me a PM from The Avenger).

32

EASTERN CONFERENCE

BIER MARKT (7-1)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTIONOVERVIEW: 3. Bier Markt - My "surprise" team on the Eastern side of things.

After last season's embarrassing display Markt will have their roster boosted up and ready to retake their place

among a top tier CP team.

OVERVIEW:

In a season in the East where I consider it a “four test” season BM is 0-1 (losing to DIABLO0. Three more wait

and I’m still holding out on how my predicted no. 3 team will do against the conference elite teams. They will get

the rest of the three right in a row and I’ll be watching with great interest.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

Easy first half – not so easy second half with Sic, HOOD, and Detroit one after another. BM did get a nice W over

Sofia to kick the season off but I’m not yet sold on how they will do against the three game previously mentioned.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

BM’s been able to handle most of the opponents easily not giving up much points on D (seven of eight game

giving up 13 or less point). They’ll need to put more points against the elite teams as 17 may not get it done. It

will be an interesting second half for BM if they can get back into the elite discussion again.

33

EASTERN CONFERENCE

DIABLO DOTS (6-2)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTIONOVERVIEW:

2. DIABLO DOTS - Second place again?!! The DOTS have won the East the last two seasons but failed to bring

home another gold to their trophy case. They'll once again battle for the top spot in the conference and to represent

the East in the title game.

OVERVIEW:

The DOTS started the season slow beginning with a 1-2 mark but since have dispatched their opponents with ease

including a 10 point win over BM. A lot may be to the schedule not being strong and we’ll have to see but the dots

are recovering from a lower chemistry and will be playing better in the second half as a result.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

Like BM they have part one of a four part exam done (except they are 1-0). The DOTS get Sic, HOOD, and

Detroit right in a row (wow, going to be some fun weeks in the East for BM and DIABLO). Everyone else will

just be in the DOTS way.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

The slow start could hurt seeding and I’m curious if the DOTS play well against the three mentioned who they

play in weeks 9 through 11. Getting by each could send a salvo to the rest of the conference “plan to lose the

conference title game as we play in yet another League Title game.”

UH OH! HOOD GONE CASUAL (6-2)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTIONOVERVIEW:

1. Uh Oh! HOOD gone Casual - Went 16-0 last season but have lost some conference championships they'd like to

forget about. Will this be the season HOOD gone and Wins Casual? Time will tell but they're certainly on of the

top teams in the East.

OVERVIEW:

HOOD’s been a little quiest on the season and curious if that’s because they had only lost one regular season game

the two previous seasons and lost in the conference title games. They’ve done the unthinkable and already lost two

games – that felt dirty.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

Half the BIG four are out of the way but they lost both of those games. They’ll be able to redeem themselves with

DIABLO and BM still on the slate.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

With the two losses already I don’t see them getting the no. 1 seed for the third season in a row. They will be in

the overall chemistry of 90 when the second half starts and that will help out with the DOTS and BM. I don’t think

anyone else will challenge them and they’ll be in a fight for a top four spot – they should get there.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY (4-4)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTIONOVERVIEW: 7. American Horror Story - My nemesis!!!! Story once again has a

nice team in play and should make a little noise in their first season with the big boys (and girls).

OVERVIEW:

The rookie team split games and didn’t play bad at times. They played HOOD and Detroit strong but the O

disappeared at inopportune times. They’ll need to play with better consisentency in the second half to stay in the

playoff position they’re currently in. Oh, picked 7th and in 7

th (I win!).

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

Thought the first half was slightly stronger as they lost to Sic, HOOD, and Detroit in back to back games after

starting the season 4-1. Four of the last eight are against teams with two or less wins but it will be teams like

Motor City and Corpus Christi where they need to get wins.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

Good ole Statlerand Waldorf – heck a guy so I’ll be rooting for them to have some success. I think they make the

playoffs with a better second half of the season but there will be some key game they must win or that similar 4-4

mark will rear it’s ugly head.

DETROIT MUSCLE

PRE-SEASON PREDICTIONOVERVIEW

having won the CP title back in season 17. I'll need a couple games to see how they play but having already

pocketed a title you have to figure the Muscle are flexing up for a possible playoff run this seas

OVERVIEW:

I’ll admit after that opening loss to the Vols it got me wondering how good or how bad Detroit was going to be.

They’ve regrouped nicely beating HOOD and losing a heartbreaker to Sic. Vinman and crew have the Muscle

playing well and I have to keep myself from calling them THE (not one of the) favorites in the East (some of you

may be saying “yeah right MK22” – just wait, this team and staff are not Casual noobs in the first season.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE

Exam time and one of two right now with two left. They get splits between playing DIABO and BM which is a

luxury DIABLO and BM do not have. I don’t see much else standing in the teams way.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH

Cough cough – I had them 11th to start the season but I did have the old “

having won the CP title back in season 17. I'll need a couple games to see how they play but having already

pocketed a title you have to figure the Muscle are flexing up for a possible playoff run this season.

I’ll admit after that opening loss to the Vols it got me wondering how good or how bad Detroit was going to be.

They’ve regrouped nicely beating HOOD and losing a heartbreaker to Sic. Vinman and crew have the Muscle

to keep myself from calling them THE (not one of the) favorites in the East (some of you

EASTERN CONFERENCE

CORPUS CHRISTI BORDER GUARDS (4-4)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTIONOVERVIEW: 8. Corpus Christi Border Guards Struggled a bit losing 10 to kick the

season off but won six against some weaker teams. I think they are sitting good with some of the newer teams and I

know I have them lower than what they should be but need to see how they look before going to bat for them.

OVERVIEW:

The team is a little head scratcher for me having won six games to close out the season, having the same team, and

with great chemistry. At times the O just takes off having scored only 35 points in the last three games (all losses).

Now, chuck in the fact they beat DIALBO in week three.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

They get the layup in week nine and then it changes as this team will be in a fight for a playoff spot. They do play

four games against teams with two or less losses but still have Sic, HOOD, Detroit, and American – all in a row.

That American game may be for a playoff spot.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

I had this team making the playoffs to kick the season off as I thought with all the change the conference made

would be helpful to this team. I’m not yet convinced of that as I don’t think they make the playoffs.

EASTERN CONFERENCE

MOTOR CITY MUSTANGS (3-5)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTIONOVERVIEW: 5. Motor City Mustangs - Like a few of the vet teams returning I

think the Mustangs suddenly become a better with the loss of a few powers and a sort of "decline" in the East in

overall strength.

OVERVIEW:

The Mustangs haven’t exactely opened up the throttle yet on the season but the SOS has been brutal. They’ve lost

to five high level playoff teams and haven’t play horid in doing so (save the 51 point loss to SMC). This team was

a playoff team last year so I expect that experience will show through the first half cloud and they’ll be easily back

in.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

They got four of the five bullies out of the way although each was a loss. That just makes the second half much

easier than the first with DIABLO left. Motor City has a real short at the biggest turnaround as they could go

either 7-1 or 6-2. Only two of the eight opponents has a winning record to close out.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

What a rough schedule but the light at the end of the tunnel sheds a bunch of light. I do think the Mustangs will

kick it into gear and dispatch of most of their opponents in the second half and garner the six through eight spot.

EASTERN CONFERENCE

GRANWINSNELL POLARKATS (6-2)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTIONOVERVIEW: 14. Granwinsnell PolarKats - Will get the Polarkats in week one

which will give me a much better view at the team and hopefully they won't take the ranking too serious yet.

OVERVIEW:

THIS TEAM – DAMN YOU!! The PolarKats have not always been cooperating with my weekly picks so I’ll take

full credit for the success since it must motivate them. On a serious note the Kats have played well so far and I

wasn’t sure what to make of them after our week one game as their O struggled and D gave up a bunch of yards –

they’ve recovered and played strong.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

Second half gets much tougher with BM to open the second half and to close it with Sic, HOOD, and Detroit.

They’ve surprised me before but this may be asking too much from them.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

Ouch – had them at no. 14 and they are sitting pretty at 6-2. I see four games that they can win and to keep on

charging they will need to win three. This team won’t demote but they will fall into the category of fighting for a

playoff spot.

rise up in my rankings and I'll need a few games to see how high.

OVERVIEW:

Thought they would be doing a little better than they are right now but still short on the chem side as they will

finally be an overall 90+ to kick the second half off. The inconsitent play of the O has really hurt the team as

they’ve not scored a TD in five of the eight games.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE

They played three of the BIG boys in the first half and if the O can get untracked I can see them possibly making a

push to flip that 2-6 to 6-2. They’ll need to to make a playoff run.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH

The Mafia has been getting smacked around but five of the last eight are against .500 and below teams so its

possible they can get out of the hole they are currently in. It may be a stretch but that whole “dare to dr

EASTERN CONFERENCE

BOLN FARMERS MARKET (3-5)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTIONOVERVIEW: 12. BOLN Farmers Market - The last team to join CP as they ran

through Regional #3 last season. A big step up and we'll see if their dots are up for the challenge.

OVERVIEW:

This team is really strange – 7, 7, 7, 54, 3, 3, 133, and 26. Which O will show up from game to game is anyone’s

guess. Chem will be at 100 fully for game nine so maybe we get that offensive considency. I scrimmaged them

earlier in the month and the D impressed me. The O will dictate how this team does.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

The second half is much stronger than the first – Sic, HOOD, Detroit, and DIABLO. Four games against teams

without a winning record so a seven win goal is not out of the realm of possibility but if the team is only getting

FG’s it will be.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

I had them at no. 12 which is about spot on. I do not think this team come close to demotion but I do think they’ll

find themselves out of the playoff hunt unless they win four to get to seven wins. They beat me up 13-10 in our

last meeting (season 33). They are a solid team that will do better the second half.

42

Page 46: Casual Pro's Mid-Season Review

EASTERN CONFERENCE

WHITE LIGHTNING (2-6)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTIONOVERVIEW: 6. White Lightning - Most people won't pay them much attention but

they'll be the ones that sneak up on you and get the W. A very solid team who should make a strong push for the

playoffs in their first season.

OVERVIEW:

Kicked the season off with two close losses and then the L’s just started coming. The O has been non-existent at

times as they’ve only scored 15 points in the last three games (getting blanked twice). The ground game that

carried them hasn’t been there for them and the passing game has been a hair short of brutal (165 ypg and 12 picks

to 3 TD’s).

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

Anytime you only get two wins each game is tough. The second half weighs out as a harder version as they face

only two teams with winning records and still have HOOD, Detroit, American, and DIABLO.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

I had the Lightning as a playoff team to kick the season off and I was a bit off with that prediction. I do think

White will be fighting not to demote this season.

43

EASTERN CONFERENCE

OFF IN THE SHOWER (2-6)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTIONOVERVIEW:

10. Off In The Shower - Having played them I thought the biggest thing was whether they could pass the ball. It comes

full circle, if they can they'll be alright as they have a very nice ground game that will be tough to slow down.

OVERVIEW:

So close yet so far way – that’s how I’d sum up the season to date for this rookie CP team. Some close games and

while the D has been sturdy (only 34 to Prussian and 26 to BM) the O has not lit up the scoreboard getting 13 or less in

six of the eight game to date.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

It’s not pretty with Sic, HOOD, and Muscle but The Shower does face five teams wtihout a winning record. The lack

of O could hurt then but the D could also carry them (is that half full or half empty?).

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

From my no. 10 preseason ranking I questioned the passing game a bit. The dual QB approach is getting less than 100

yards a game with a lower completion rate. At time the ground game has shown promise but the O will need to turn it

around for The Shower to stay out of the bottom. I’m not sure they’ll be able to but what I know is owner Blutoski will

give it his best shot.

44

EASTERN CONFERENCE

SAN DIEGO SAMURA (2-6)

PRE-SEASON PREDICTIONOVERVIEW:

9. San Diego Samurai - I would have this team this high if I didn't have some question marks on the new teams

coming up. This team lost to each of the eight playoff teams on their schedule last season but I would expect a

playoff run from them this year.

OVERVIEW:

After a hot start in week one with 51 points the O has been a letdown in the six losses getting a combined 43 points

(math people – that’s 7.2 ppg). That won’t win many but the D hasn’t been overly helpful either. Curious if this

team can turn it around to close out the second half of the season.

STRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE:

All a guy can say is ouch – beat the main team, then lose to Sic, Hood, Detroit, and DIABLO – no shame there but

the team needs to get back together and focus one game at a time to get out of the old 2-6 hole.

DEEP INCITE – COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH:

I recall Meatbomb posting he thought the Samura could possibly be a playoff team this season. I thought they

would have been pushing as well. Don’t let the fat lady keep warming up – plenty of time to turn it around and I

really like the favorable schedule here. I need to see a little more out of the O and D but I don’t count this team out

yet but if they fail in the first three weeks once that fat lady will be do more than warming up.

OVERVIEW:

PRE-SEASON PREDICTIONOVERVIEW

13. CHAOS Society's Flaming Blue SKULLS

OVERVIEW:

The BLUE Skulls have struggled on both side of the ball this season. They did get the gimme W over the Man
