From the Principals Desk As Term 3 draws to a conclusion I would like to briefly take the time to reflect on the success of the past 10 weeks. The public speaking

competition was conducted with fine achievements from all classrooms K-6. Our sporting teams participated in a large variety of activities and at all times conducted themselves with fantastic school spirit, effort and team work. Education Week and Book Week saw our school open to many visitors to have a closer look at the magnificent achievements and great programs within our classrooms. I can’t believe that we are about commence the final quarter of our year. Often I stop to reflect and think about where the time has gone. In Term 4 we are looking forward to participating in the School Swim Scheme program, RAW Art, Year 6 Mini Fete day, swimming carnival and end of year celebrations. School resumes for students and staff on Monday 15th October 2018. Please remember that as we enter the new teaching and learning period students should be making the transition back to summer school uniform. Sydney West Athletics Carnivals Recently, Matthew E, Anthony, Malachi, Taylan and Declan represented our school, the Small School community and the Hawkesbury District team at the Sydney West Athletics carnival. I would like to congratulate the boys for their fine achievements and outstanding school spirit. I would also like to thank the parents who supported the students and participated in many after school training sessions. Great job team!

Muru Mittigar Yesterday our school participated in an Aboriginal cultural awareness day presented by Muru Mittigar. The students participated in a variety of activities that supported our HSIE curriculum, linked with deeper understandings of the Indigenous culture and assisted with gaining an insight to what the Dharug land was used for and looked like prior to European arrival. Boomerang throwing, cultural painting, cultural dance and artefacts display were conducted by each class. I would like to thank the Muru Mittigar staff for their excellent support to our school, they offered a great deal of enthusiasm and knowledge to Castlereagh Public School. I would also like to offer a special thank you to Mrs. Sutton for her orgainisation leading up to the day. She has dedicated a great deal of time preparing for this event throughout the year. Muru Mittigar cultural awareness day was an outstanding opportunity for both students and staff!

P&C Disco Last Friday evening our school P&C ran our annual disco at school. The theme was ‘Farmers’ with $1 from every person’s entry being donated to the drought relief program. I would like to thank the students for their fantastic behaviour, the many parents who supported the disco and the P&C for their outstanding organisation and commitment to Castlereagh Public School. I would like to make a special mention to the McAvoy family for very generously donating their time and equipment to light the areas of

First Fleet Presentation On Friday 21st September, our school was presented with a framed picture with a detailed list of names of people who arrived in Australia as part of the First Fleet in 1788. I would like to thank the Hawkesbury-Nepean Chapter of the Fellowship of First Fleeters and the Hawkesbury Lions Club for supplying our school with this great historical resources.

School Swim Scheme Our school will be participating in the School Swim Scheme program in Weeks 1 and 2 of Term 4. All children are reminded that the program commences on Monday 15th October, first day back, and concludes on Friday 26th October. Please remember to bring your swimmers, goggles (optional), sunscreen, towel and a bag to carry your wet clothing in. Additionally, please ensure that all personal items of clothing have your child’s name clearly labeled on them. Year 6 Coin Drive The Year 6 Farewell ‘Coin Drive’ has officially concluded. On behalf of Year 6 and myself I would like to thank the entire school community for supporting our fundraising efforts. The Year 6 students spent a great deal of time counting the coins and working out the average money raised for each grade. A combined school total of $957.45 was raised across the term, WOW! I would like to congratulate Kindergarten for raising an

SRC Pyjama/Movie Day Fundraiser This Friday our school SRC will be conducting a pyjama fundraiser for a gold coin donation. Students are reminded that they must wear appropriate pyjamas on the day with closed in footwear and a school hat. I am certain that this will be an enjoyable day for the students and I look forward to sharing many photos with you next term. 2020 Selective High Application Information Applications for selective high school placement are considered mainly on the basis of the Selective High School Placement Test results and school assessment scores. The Selective High School Placement Test will be held on Thursday 14 March 2019. If you would like to have your child considered for Year 7 selective high school entry in 2020, you need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address). Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from mid-September 2018 at https:// education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7. The application website opens at that link on 9 October 2018 and closes on 12 November 2018. You must apply before the closing date. There are no paper application forms. To participate in the school survey please follow the attached URL address; https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/bhr9m 2019 Enrolments Kindergarten enrolments and all other enrolments for 2019 are currently being taken. In order for us to prepare our classes and ensure that equitable class numbers are maintained it is essential that we have all the information needed leading into 2019. If you know of someone who is enrolling at Castlereagh Public School and has not yet done so, could you please pass on our school details? Additionally, if you have children in Kindergarten to Year 5 and are planning on moving at the end of the year, that information is important also. I wish you all a very happy and safe fortnight ahead. Kind Regards Mr. Tony Jeff Principal School Lunches

Castlereagh Public School is a certified ‘Crunch and Sip’ school. All classes have a ‘Crunch and Sip’ break during the day where children are encouraged to eat fruit and sip water. A tally of the fruit eaten is kept as it is one of the activities the children can complete to obtain their Healthy Lifestyle Challenge, Healthy Badge. Waste Free Wednesdays Every Wednesday is a waste free day at CPS. This means whatever food and drink wrappings/scraps that the children have that day must be taken home with their lunches, a class tally is kept of the number of children having ‘nude foods’! These are

Richmond High School Year 7 2019

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

Richmond High is dedicated to providing engaging and current teaching methods utilising the technology that is available to today’s students. The BYOD that Year 7 students will be required to bring in 2019 will be any laptop that utilises Windows 10 or above as the operating system. The selection of the device will be at the discretion of the parent(s) of the student however Richmond High has provided suggested specifications through the School App. and on the School Website. A summary of these specifications is also provided at the end of this article.

Our BYOD program is well underway with the initial information evening attracting parents, carers and students who were able to ask a variety of questions.

Will my child be disadvantaged if they don’t have a device?

While teachers will ensure that students are able to engage in the curriculum and meet the same course outcomes they won’t be able to engage in the same activities or experiences.

What happens if my child’s device is damaged at school?

We are recommending that parents/carers take out insurance. The school cannot take responsibility for damage to the BYOD however we will investigate any damage on a case by case basis and provide this information to parents/carers. We will be promoting safe practices with the BYOD to minimise opportunities for damage to occur.

The demonstrations of how students are currently utilising computer technology allowed parents/carers to see the capabilities of utilising Google Classrooms and Google Drive to provide access for students to learning resources and activities.

In Term 4 Richmond High will host further workshops for parents/carers to demonstrate how they can access and navigate through Google Classrooms and Drive.

If you have any questions regarding this program, a device or if you have any suggestions please contact the school.

Mr Cliff Ralph

Principal
