B. Area Reports

EAP – Submitted by Cynthia Schuemann.

The EAP discipline meeting during the fall convocation included discussion of EAP-Plus data from the spring term. College-Plus classes were mostly math, computer science, and psychology. For Plus students, there was a general trend of good performance in the content classes, as well as the EAP classes. 82% of those in level 5 who took a college class passed it, and 90% of those in level 6 who took a college class passed it. Unfortunately, many of the Plus students were not actually enrolled in a “plus” content class last spring, but this issue is being addressed. (They just enrolled in EAP without a college class.) EAP discipline goals for 2014-2015 include: a) increasing enrollment in Plus sections, b) developing an enhanced exit/transition plan, c) on-going work with LOAT and writing assessments, and d) working with CT&D to offer FPD opportunities related to integrated skills instruction. A retreat is scheduled for the afternoon of Friday, October 10 in Hialeah. President Mattie Roig-Watnik is the current discipline convener for World Languages, Ana Maria Bradley-Hess remains the lead dean, and Catherine Hanus-Zank and Victor McGlone (Hialeah) are the lead chairs. The chairs have also been working on revisions to MDC policy statement on foreign language competency and equivalence required for AA graduation and admission to a Florida baccalaureate program. (Rule 6A-10.02412).
