15 PUSH OUT HARDWARE
20.1
When your project requires hardwarethat looks like casement window fromthe turn of the century, turn to TruthHardware for our new line of hardwarefor push-out windows which combinesthe aesthetic characteristics fromyesteryear with the performancerequirements of today.
Push-out window systems have seen aresurgence in recent times with thepopularity of timber frame, log andcraftsman style homes, and builders arealso incorporating this manual stylewindow into sidelights for doors.
Following extensive research andengineering, Truth is launching a fullline of hinges, locks and related push-out hardware to meet the requirementsof this popular market segment.
Available in both “classic” and “retro”looks, Truth’s hardware systems forpush-out windows are designed to meetyour historic application needs.
LOCK BAR SYSTEMS
Truth has designed two types of lockbar systems – one for standard push-out windows and the other specificallydesigned for French style doublecasement window applications.
The standard lock bar system isavailable in either steel or stainlesssteel and allows up to four lockingpoints on sash heights up to 7 feethigh. With a standard backset of22mm, this lock bar is a singleintegrated unit which allows for quickinstallation by the windowmanufacturer.
The locking systems provide a range ofhandle activation heights whichpermits the manufacturer to place thehandle wherever they would like, including centered low on the windowsash to help comply with ADArestricted applications.
The French locking system is evenmore flexible since the lock drive boxis separate from the driven lock bars. This allows the upper and lower lockbars to be selected from a wide rangeof lengths and then cut to specific sizefor applications. All French lock barsincorporate a shoot bolt for addedsecurity. The French locking system isavailable in steel with a coastal platingpackage as an option.
CASEMENT
HINGES
Truth also offers special high frictionhinges which were engineered to fit thestandard hinge cavity to help provideresistance to wind moving the sashwhile in the open position. Availablein stainless steel as a standard, thesehinges are available in two sizes (10”and 14”). With egress or washabilityoptions to choose from, these hingesuse the same snap-stud design asTruth’s standard 2-Bar hinges andoptional hinge stops are available forlarger window applications.
STAY BARS
If even more wind resistance isrequired, or the window sash is toolarge to reach the activation handle onthe lock bar system, then Truthrecommends using our sill mountedStay Bars. Available in 2 lengths, thishardware provides more stability whenopen and will assist the homeownerwhen closing a wider sash. One uniquefeature of our stay bar is the ability tohold the sash in any position and notinterfere with the closed screen.
OPTIONAL HARDWARE
Truth Hardware also offers a fullcomplement of swing screen hardwareincluding hinges which allow easyseasonal removal of the screens. Inaddition, Truth offers an assortment ofscreen handle options to complementthe sash hardware.

TRUTH TIPS
1. Screen hinges are designed to bedetachable to allow seasonal screenremoval, therefore orientation of thehinges must be considered whenselecting and mounting hingecomponents.
2. The Stay Bar utilizes a loose rivet atthe sash bracket to allow easy sashdisconnection for maintenance.Orientation of the sash bracket and pinmust be considered to avoid the pinfalling out and becoming lost.
3. Friction hinges and Stay barsprovide only limited resistance to winddriven sash movement. Push outwindows using this hardware shouldnot be left unattended in windyconditions.
4. A construction handle (PN 23377)is available for operation of the lockingsystems without having the decorativehandles in place.
5. The tongued version of the “classic”or “retro” handles are intended foraesthetic purposes only, they areintended to be used in conjunction witha locking bar system to carry weatherand forced entry loads applied to thesash. Use of these handles as singlepoint locks is not recommended.
6. Truth recommends that whendesigning a casement window the sashwidth should be limited to no greaterthan 66% of the sash height. A sashwidth that exceeds 66% could developsash sag over the life of the window.Refer to Truth Technical Note # 3 formore information dealing with sash sagprevention.
7. The Concealed Casement Hingewith snap stud attachment wasdesigned to be used on a casementwindow only. Under no circumstancesshould a casement hinge with a snapstud be used on an awning window
8. With the flat bottom track, screwheads will be raised above the trackwhen installed. Truth’s Delrin shoenow has a higher bridge to clear screwheads (.060” high).
9. A standard 3/8” wrench can be usedto adjust a hinge equipped with theadjustable stud, however this willrequire detaching the support armsfrom the track. To adjust this hingewithout detaching the support arms it isnecessary to use Truth’s slim-linewrench #31887
10. When selecting mounting screwsfor Truth hardware, coatingcompatibility is one of the mostimportant criteria. For best corrosionresistance the coating on the screwsshould be the same as the coating onthe hardware. For more informationsee Tech Note #11.
11. On some window designs, bindingcan be experienced on the hinge side ofthe window between the outermostedge of the sash and the jamb. Thisproblem often occurs when switchingfrom standard to and “egress” hinge. If a window system is designed towork with an “egress” hinge, thewindow system will work with allother Truth Concealed CasementHinges. When binding is encountered, three solutions are available: a) movehinge location toward outside of sash,b0 increase the clearance between thesash and jamb, and c) decrease thethickness of the sash.
