The Josiah Smith Tavern & Old Library Committee
The committee realizes that our multifaceted proposalsfor the Old Library and Josiah Smith Tavern are not without
some compromise and sacrifice for the good of the entire community.
We have worked hardto juggle many interestsand requirementsand will continue to do sowith voter approvalof the next design phase.
To continue to neglect these two historic buildings in town we believewould be irresponsible.
The move for the Women’s Community League from the Barnto the Old Library is a perfect fit.
A new Weston History Center and Town Archiveswill reopen the Old Library lower level
for research and public programs
And the Tavern will become a warm and welcoming gathering place for friends and family.

Taverns in other towns found the same practical solution.
Imagine your morning commute takes you past fields of fruits,vegetables, and herbs; then in the evening you and your family walk,
bicycle, or drive to the tavern restaurant for a healthy mealof locally grown foods.

The events that define our lives in our unique small towncould be dovetailed with visits to the Old Library
and meals at the Tavern.
A weekend at the beach or in the mountains could end herein town with a bite to eat before the work week begins.
Weston’s green has a long tradition of celebrations and memorials.I can’t think of a better place to watch than from the tavern porch.
