We also owe much to our organist and our choirs who help us sing the praises of god. These are great services, a sharing of giſts that help to shape the kind of community we are and very much in line with St Pauls vision of the church, (1 Cor 12:4-30), a vision we can hopefully develop further in the coming year. Behind the scenes there are several commiees : the Parish Pastoral Council, the Liturgy Commiee, the Educaon Commiee, the Legion of Mary and the Society of St Vincent de Paul. All of these people provide discreet service, offering ideas, advice and encouragement. Finally there are those who are involved in their own very quiet way, eschewing commiees and ministries but offering constant prayer, moral and material support to our parish, those whose leſt hand does not know what their right hand is doing (Mt 6:1-4). To all of these people we owe so much and we are indeed very grate- ful, they are the people who make the parish world go round. To All THANK YOU!

We have not come like Eastern kings With gifts upon the pommel lying. Our hands are empty, and we came Because we heard a baby crying. We have not come like questing knights With fiery swords and banners flying. We heard a call and hurried here – The call was like a baby crying.

But we have come with open hearts From places where the torch is dying. We seek a manger and a cross Because we heard a baby crying.

Year’s End Word

Each pastoral year in the life of a parish brings its share of graces and this has no doubt also been the case in this past year. We are growing in the feel-ing that we are entering a process of renewal in our living the gospel. Our recent Parish Pastoral Assembly was a sign of this and we hope to move fur-ther along that challenging road during the coming year, with another morning

pastoral assembly during which will look at the concrete steps we might already take. More on that later.

At this time however, it is important the community’s gratitude to all those who contribute so much to the life of our faith community. The fulltime professional staff but also the almost 60 volunteers who con-tribute the our prayer in the liturgy both on Sundays and during the week: those who maintain our lovely church, the ministers of the Word and of the Eucharist, the collectors and those who minister to the sick and at funerals. We also owe much to our organist and our choirs who help us sing the praises of god. These are great services, a sharing of gifts that help to shape the kind of community we are and very much in line with St Paul’s vision of the church, (1 Cor 12:4-30), a vision we can hopefully develop further in the coming year.

Behind the scenes there are several committees : the Parish Pastoral Council, the Liturgy Committee, the Education Committee, the Legion of Mary and the Society of St Vincent de Paul. All of these people provide discreet service, offering ideas, advice and encouragement.

Finally there are those who are involved in their own very quiet way, eschewing committees and ministries but offering constant prayer, moral and material support to our parish, those whose left hand does

not know what their right hand is doing (Mt 6:1-4).

To all of these people we owe so much and we are indeed very grate-ful, they are the people who make the parish world go round. To All THANK YOU!

In a letter to priests and parishes this morning Archbishop Martin asked, “As this Jubilee Year of Mercy begins, I am asking you to once again help those in need in our Diocese by assisting in the collection of vital foodstuffs for the Crosscare Food Banks. These Food Banks give food directly to individuals and families in need through local community food banks and also to over 70 other charities in Dublin who are working with those most in need.”

Archbishop Martin has asked parishes to re-peat last year’s Food Appeal with parishioners to bring non-perishable food items to Masses in their local parish Church on the weekends of Advent. Types of food urgently needed include pasta/rice, fruit juice, tea/coffee, soup, sugar, powdered milk, tinned meat/fish, tinned veg/fruit, packaged dessert, biscuits, and hygiene

Christmas Dues Just a gentle reminder that these dues are as essential part or the economy of our parishes and the diocese, as the they are used for the salaries of our priests in minis-try as well of the support of retired clergy and those in care. Parishioners have always been very supportive of this and we count on your generosity again despite the the many demands made on you. We thank parishioners for the many small and great gestures of friendship support throughout the year.
