May is Mental Health Awareness Month Mental health refers to an individuals state of well-being

in which one can realize ones own abilities, coping meth-

ods in normal life situations, productivity and ability to

contribute to their community. Mental Illness alters

thinking, mood, or behavior. One in five adults has a di-

agnosable mental illness. It is more common than can-

cer, diabetes or heart disease. The stigma associated with

mental illness prevents a lot of people from seeking help.

Mental health awareness seeks to get rid of that stigma.

Mental Health America is just one resource here in the

Pittsburgh area. Their number is 412-661-7860.
