About Caring for our future

• The government have written a paper about the social care in the future. This is called: Caring for our future

• This is a big plan from the government about how Social Care services could work in the future.

About Caring for our future

• As well as the White Paper the government has said what they would put in a new law about social care

• There is another report that says how the government think social care should be paid for in the future

About Caring for our future

• The government have made an easyread version of this White Paper and the draft law.

• Inclusion North has written a paper that tells you where you can get all the information on the plans and ideas

Have your say

• There isn’t much time to have our say about all these ideas. This is because the deadline for getting our feedback into the government is 19th October.

• This means we need to decide today what we want to say about Caring for our future and how it will affect people with a learning disability.

The big things the government are asking about

• The job of the Council – new rules for Councils to follow and think about not just services, community, information and working with health services

• People’s rights to care and support – new rules on who gets support across the country and how that is decided

• Putting carers rights to support in the same law as people they support – 1 law on social care support for everyone

The big things the government are asking about

• Thinking about well - being and support planning based on what difference support can make – this includes new rules on person centred support plans and types of support

• New rules on people being able to move areas and get support

What do you think?

Inclusion North have given us some things to think about

But most of all we need to say what we think is important for the future of social care

Page 9: Caring for our future: White paper and draft law

Some questions to think about

1.What do you think people need to make sure they understand what is happening when they are being assessed for social care support?

2.What kind of information will people need and how should they get it? Does information and advice mean people will get what support they need and feel listened to?

3.What kind of needs should people have to get social care support?

Some questions to think about

4.If a person and their carer both have support needs but want different things what do you think should happen?

5.What should happen if someone moves to a different area?

6.What needs to happen to make sure people’s rights are looked after if there is a safeguarding investigation?

7.What do you think if people have to pay for all their support from their Personal Budget including things like advocacy?

the Easy Read Papers. You can think about the questions to help you

• Use the rest of the time we have to give your views that can be included in our feedback.

• We will then pull all this information together.

• We will send you the full feedback from everyone when we have typed it up.

How we will send in our feedback

• We will send our feedback from this group into the Department of Health
