* RC – Range of Criteria.

*As subjects and prerequisites can vary between

institutions, it is necessary to check www.vtac.edu.au

or individual institutions for further information.

*Prior to clinical placement (required for training),

students will need to obtain a National Police

Certificate, immunisations and a Working with

Children Check.

*Once training is completed, it is a legal requirement for EN and RN graduates to be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Registration permits a person to work as a nurse in any relevant area of employment, except midwifery, which is restricted to midwives only. You can visit the board’s website for more information http://www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/.

Research and Innovation in Careers & Pathways at Williamstown High School Morrisby Online Although at the infancy stage, over the course of the Term 2 I have been investigating a Career Testing tool called Morrisby Online.

The Morrisby Profile is a test battery developed specifically for careers guidance. It is composed of 12 tests, 8 measuring abilities and 4 measuring personal style. Together these provide an objective view of the students’ talents as they relate to work. The tests include:

Morrisby Online includes timed assessments of:

Verbal Reasoning Numerical Reasoning Abstract Reasoning Mechanical Reasoning Spatial Reasoning

Plus untimed questionnaires measuring:

Career Interests Personality Type Study Interests

The whole test takes 1 hour and 40 minutes

without any breaks. The report is interactive and designed to encourage exploration and career research. A report can also be downloaded in pdf

format. See

https://www.careeranalysts.com.au/morrisby-

online

or https://www.morrisbyonline.com.au/ Practice Questions and a report sample is available on the Morrisby website. The key strength of the Morrisby Report is that it objectively measures students strengths and the career direction in which these point.

An opportunity to visit Melbourne Grammar a few weeks allowed me to question the implementation and benefits of the Morrisby Online. Melbourne Grammar had just tested their Year 10 students. After undertaking the test myself it was clear that this is a powerful tool for Career guidance and subject selection into the Later Years of secondary schooling. Questions such as:

What would I be good at?

What would interest me?

What career would I enjoy most? For most people these are hard questions to answer with any confidence. Really knowing your strengths and interests and how these relate to working life is something that builds over time and from experience.

The Morrisby Report will accelerate this process. It will help students to make more informed decisions about their future - about subject choice, courses and careers.

Whilst there is further research and planning to be done at Williamstown High School we are considering the cost of implementation at the Year 10 level as a part of the all important Later Years Course Selection. Wishing all our students and families a restful and safe holiday.
