Captain James T KirkWilliam Shatner

Appeared in the films / later TV shows? Yes, in films I-VII (whereupon he was killed off gloriously, but helped save civilisation in the process) and the Animated series.

He's currently hosting William Shatner's Raw Nerve, a celebrity interview series.

Commander SpockLeonard Nimoy

He has written two autobiographies, I Am Not Spock (1977) and I Am Spock (1995).Nimoy reprises his role in the latest Star Trek movie and is appearing this month on JJ Abrams' sci-fi TV show Fringe He is also voicing The Fallen in Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Chief Engineer Montgomery ScottJames Doohan

Finding himself typecast as Scotty, Doohan came to accept his fate and appeared in a number of Scotty-linked cameos in shows like Knight Rider 2000, Loaded Weapon.

Doohan sadly passed away in 2005. In April 2007, his ashes were taken into orbit aboard the SpaceLoft XL rocket, following his iconic character to the stars.

Dr Leonard 'Bones' McCoyDeForest Kelley

Appeared in the films and in The Next Generation's pilot episode.Very little in the way of film or TV work, since Kelley, fearing typecasting, tried to avoid the whole lot. Instead, he focused on writing poetry as a hobby.

Kelley sadly died of stomach cancer in 1999, at the age of 79.

Lt. Nyota UhuraNichelle Nichols

Nichols dedicated a lot of time and effort to promoting involvement in space exploration for NASA to women and members of minorities, with considerable success. She also appeared in films like Snow Dogs and Are We There Yet? Nichols sang with Duke Ellington before starting her acting career.

Nichols recently played a recurring role in Heroes..

Ensign Pavel ChekovWalter Koenig

He was the only cast member not to appear in the Animated series, but he did write an episode for it.

Koenig maintained a pretty varied career, with lots of TV appearances. However, in his post-Trek career he's probably best known for playing bad-guy psychic Bester on Babylon 5.He was also George Takei's best man recently.

Lt. Hikaru SuluGeorge Takei

Takei is arguably the hardest working of the original cast members, having appeared in scores of TV shows since Star Trek, including Miami Vice, MacGyver, 3rd Rock From The Sun and of course Heroes, as Hiro's father.Takei is still going strong. He's radio shock jock Howard Stern's announcer, he came third in ‘I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here’ a couple of years back, and he recently got married to his partner of 18 years, Brad Altman.

Lt. Christine ChapelMichelle Barrett-Roddenberry

Appeared all the TV shows as either Lwaxana Troi, the psychic Betazoid or as the voice of the ship's computer. As Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry's widow, Barrett oversaw the development of some of his other TV show ideas: Earth: Final Conflict and Andromeda. She also appeared in Babylon 5 and Family Guy.

Barrett-Roddenberry sadly passed away in December 2008. Her ashes, along with those of her husband, are scheduled to be launched into deep space next year.
