#CANSAadvocacy Together with our partners, we make decision-makers in our country aware of the necessary changes needed to lower the public's cancer risk and to protect the rights of cancer patients and caregiver. CANSA contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (#3) to ensure healthy lives and promoting well-being for all. Contributed to the National Cancer Strategic Framework: 2017-2022 CANSA contributed to updating the national Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Control Policies and to the Prostate Cancer Prevention and control Policy (yet to be published) Represented on the steering committee of Fix the Patent laws coalition, we aided in getting approval of the new Intellectual Property policy and still campaigning for affordable medicines for cancer patients Universal Health Coverage (UHC) - we continue to advocate for quality health care through the call for UHC We part of the Presidential Health Compact that seeks to address the crisis in the health system Continue to assist with queries regarding health insurance, individuals rights and smoking in public places, cancer patients' rights in the workplace and address access issues to oncology treatment Make the public aware of their right to quality care, pain control and palliative care information and subscribe to the World Health Organization's pain control guidelines Working with the Cancer Alliance we lobby for cancer access and treatment - hercepatin (one of the treatment medications for breast cancer) is now on the essential medicines list Supports the Cancer Advocacy Toolkit developed by the Cancer Alliance Backs the sugar tax to lower consumption. High sugar intake indirectly increases the cancer risk by promoting obesity Welcomed the Liquor Amendment Bill that highlights the harmful effects of alcohol related to cancer We remain influential in promoting anti- tobacco legislation. We conduct our own research related to lowering cancer risk, related to risk behaviours including tobacco and alcohol use; poor diet, lack of exercise and sun exposure; protective behaviours such as vaccination and screening as well as exposure to environmental carcinogens (cancer-causing substances). Activate established research findings on cancer risk to influence behaviour change at an individual, community and structural level. CANSA further conducts research to enhance care and support for those diagnosed with cancer.
