Build teams will focus on a three part day divided into work, relax, engage. The group will build community garden boxes and or help in practical means in ministry to the poor and refugees in our community from 9am - 12 noon. Our boxes are simple to build and fun to construct. It involves basic competencies in using an impact driver (a type of battery operated screw driver) a chop saw (cutting one out of every three 8 foot 4x4’s in half) and a hammer. This is fun simple carpentry with very little chance of injury or significant mistake. below is a picture of our community garden site and some of our boxes.

  • Central Community Church is ready for your groups for the summer of 2016. We seek City Impact Teams for 4 weeks this summer. CITs commit four full days to serve our city in cooperation with our church Tuesday - Friday. Most of these groups will travel Monday and Saturday and be in their home churches on the Sunday on either end. This year we invite teams from June 7-10 CIT Build. June 14-17 CIT Build. July 12-15 CIT Run, Jump Play. July 19-22 CIT Run, Jump, Play.

Build teams will focus on a three part day divided into work, relax, engage. The group will build community garden boxes and or help in practical means in ministry to the poor and refugees in our community from 9am - 12 noon. Our boxes are simple to build and fun to construct. • The ministries to the poor include baking cookies for relief missions and ESL outreaches to refugees and the sorting of clothing for the poor etc. This allows larger groups if there are some uncomfortable with building boxes to have something to contribute as well. 12 noon - 6 pm the team is on their own for lunch and dinner and an afternoon to see our city. Go to the World’s Largest Mall http://www.wem.ca or explore our cities extensive network of river valley parks http://www.edmonton.ca/activities_parks_recreation/parks_rivervalley/william-hawrelak-park.aspx or check out one of our cities many festivals http://www.festivalseekers.com/edmontonfestivals. Although if invited the pastor of CCC has rarely been known to turn down a free lunch.

From 6pm - 9pm the team will be sent out to engage the neighborhoods of Edmonton with the gospel. Doors will be opened by giving out popsicles, water bottles etc. in city parks and asking a simple question of those interested in conversations. “What do you think about Jesus.” A training orientation will be available to groups that desire it discussing and preparing your team for these conversations. Church members form the local church will be encouraged to participate in these evenings.

CIT RJP teams will have a slightly different day. They will enjoy long leisurely mornings, and if they choose to see the sites of the city it will be in the morning. But at 1:30 pm, it will be time to lace up those running shoes. Teams will run a simple soccer camp for young children 6-14 years old. Basic ball handling drills and passing. Simple scrimmages and fun soccer related games will be done as ways for the kids to develop physical literacy, teamwork, and have a lot of fun. The last day of camp will include a bouncy castle and sno cones… after a break for dinner each afternoon the team will return to the areas they serve to engage the same areas with the gospel by handing out water bottles etc… as described above for the build teams.

CITs will stay at the MacEwan Residence. http://www.macewan.ca/wcm/StudentServices/ResidenceServices/GuestAccomodations/index.htm Essentially rooms are available in a number of configurations to fit your group. CIT guidelines: we seek teams between 5 and 20 in number. We will customize the experience a little to fit the size of your team but we cannot correctly use teams larger than 20. We ask each team to handle its own, transportation, food, and housing costs. In addition to that we ask for $50 per team member to cover ministry costs on the field and t-shirts yes each member of your team will receive 2 shirts for their week of service to identify them and our church. When wearing them we expect your whole team to behave as ambassadors of Jesus and our church. (When not wearing the shirts you still ought to know God hopes you will live as his ambassadors, but thats between you and Him) Teams are encouraged to stay one extra day for a chance to spend a day in Jasper. http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/pn-np/ab/jasper/index.aspx About a 4 hour drive to the west the Canadian Rockies are worth the trip. This day involves getting out at 6am (or as we say in Edmonton dawn) arriving at the Hot Springs at 10 am, eating lunch at Patricia Street Deli at 12 noon, exploring the mountains until 6pm eating a late but filling dinner at 7 pm in Hinton on the way home and rolling into Edmonton about 11pm. (or as we say in Edmonton sundown) This obviously involves extra cost and effort but the mountains are God’s gift to any who survive Alberta’s winters and our summer days are just meant to be enjoyed! A mountaintop worship experience could replace your normal Sunday experience if desired, either led by our pastor or yours if along or both…

Please ask any questions you might have regarding CIT involvement in 2016 to our pastor Jason Shine [email protected] or his ministry associate Zach Hunn [email protected] and check out our church web and Facebook pages. www.wearecentral.ca or Facebook WeAreCentral.

• floor they also offer the option of preparing some or all of your own meals in the kitchenettes to save on costs for your team.
