The Martha Redbone Trio presents excerpts from their new theatrical work, Bone Hill, an epic story of four generations of women in a Cherokee family working in the coal mines of Appalachia amid the Laws of Jim Crow. Bone Hill explores the roots of Redbone’s Cherokee, Choctaw, and African-American ancestry and brings to light an important piece of American history that has remained untold. Bone Hill utilizes an array of musical styles including traditional Cherokee chants, blue grass, blues, funk, and more.

Join 18 of the nation’s top black and latino classical string soloists as The Sphinx Virtuosi, led by the Catalyst Quartet, take to the Ordway’s Concert Hall stage. These cultural ambassadors and alumni of the internationally renowned Sphinx competition tour nationally for a month each October. Co-presented by The Schubert Club and The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the group’s program will include works by latin composers from Mexico, Argentina, and Spain.

Fusing African jazz, soul, and spoken word, Somi will perform music from her acclaimed album, The Lagos Music Salon. Born in Illinois to immigrant parents from Rwanda and Uganda, Somi’s music draws on her bi-continental experiences and musical influences.

Indigenous is a blues-inspired rock group that rose out of Yankton Sioux Reservation in South Dakota, led by front man Mato Nanji. The group’s music is motivated not only by blues and rock greats - such as Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and B.B. King, but also by the social issues and cultural bonds of Mato’s Nakota roots. Indigenous dedicated their latest album, Time Is Coming, to indigenous youth and all young people on the indigenous reservations.

From the first notes to the final breath, West Side Story is considered one of the greatest musicals of all time. Inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story takes us back to New York’s Upper West Side in the mid-1950s where racial and social tensions run high. Arthur Laurents’ book remains powerful, poignant, and timeless; while the score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim is widely regarded as a masterpiece.

This Ordway production will be brought to life through a collaboration with artistic leaders from the Twin Cities community, including Teatro del Pueblo’s artistic director, Al Justiniano. This collaboration will create professional career opportunities and offer developmental programs for racially diverse, veteran, and aspiring professional artists working in the performing arts.

Drummers, storytellers, and athletes–the members of GuGu Drum group, direct from Shanghai, China– will engage audiences with their high-energy theatrical drum drama. The show features drum vignettes accompanied by projections based on timeless Chinese proverbs, fables, and fairy tales. Director Yang Xiaodong utilizes authentic ancient drums and drum movements as well as the ancient drums to depict historical and culturally significant drum compositions that present profound insight into unity, human evolution, awareness, wisdom, social commitment, and communication through percussive movements.

Back by popular demand, Flying Foot Forum will premiere their new work The Mystery of the Pig’s Eye. Audience members will embark on a percussive dance, music, and theater adventure as they follow three sleuths through the corridors, hallways, staircases, and rooms of the lower level of the Landmark Center to help solve the mystery. Along the way they will collect clues as they encounter performance pieces, a vampire, other characters, and clues used to tell a story and solve a mystery. Audience members will be invited to participate in this fun and inviting experience.

When a boy discovers a single-propeller airplane in his closet, he does what any young adventurer would do: he flies into outer space! Millions of miles from Earth, the plane begins to sputter and quake. The fuel tank is empty and the boy must execute a daring landing on the moon. But as it turns out, he is not alone up there... The Way Back Home uses puppets to tell a simple yet profound tale about friendship and conquering the fear of the unknown. 2017 ARTwalkThe ARTwalk is a unique opportunity for individuals, schools, and community organizations to highlight the visual arts achievements of young people in a

professionally curated art exhibit in business and storefront windows throughout downtown Saint Paul. As part of the Flint Hills International Children’s Festival, the ARTwalk celebrates the creativity of young artists ages 0 to 18 from across the region. Students in transitional programs up to age 23 are also welcome to submit. When can I order tickets?Ordway School Performances are very popular and sell out quickly, so be sure to mark your calendars for Friday, September 9 , 2016 at 7:00am, when Festival & West Side Story tickets go on sale by PHONE ONLY through the education hotline, 651.282.3115. All mailed and faxed orders arriving on or before September 9, 2016, will be processed at the end of the day on September 9, 2016, in the order they were received.

What is an Ordway Education Liaison?An Ordway Education Liaison is responsible for their school group’s order and all communications regarding payment, order changes, study guides, and performance day logistics.

How much are tickets?Performing Arts Classroom Series & Festival School performance tickets are $3.50 eachBroadway Songbook® Series tickets are $5.00 eachSpecial Engagement West Side Story Matinee tickets are $7.50-$15.00

When do we pay?Submit your order with payment in full or with YOUR PRINCIPAL’S SIGNATURE that guarantees payment in full by September 16, 2015 for all October performances, or by 6 weeks prior to your group’s performance date for all other shows.

How do I arrange for accessibility needs?Please include all accessibility needs when you place your order over the phone. The Ordway provides the following accommodation services: wheelchair seating, infrared

listening system units, ASL interpretation, and audio description to all school performances. A two-week notification is required via phone or e-mail for any additional accessibility needs that were not included at the time of your original order.In addition, the Ordway will offer Sensory Friendly performances of The Way Back Home on Wednesday, May 31 at 9:15am. The sensory friendly performance is designated for students with autism and/or sensory processing disorders.

What if a performance I choose is sold out?If a performance is already sold out, we will try and place you in one of the alternate performances you have selected. If your alternative performances are not available, you will be notified that your group has been placed on the waiting list. Once a group is placed on the waiting list, an Ordway Education Liaison will be contacted if seats become available, at which time they will be given a date by which they will need to accept or decline the waiting list ticket offer. If the Liaison does not contact the Ordway by the ticket offer deadline, an invitation will be extended to the next group on the waiting list.

How long are performances?Performing Arts Classroom Series & Festival School Performances are 50-60 minutes.Broadway Songbook® Series performances are 90 minutes.Special Engagement West Side Story Matinee performance is 2.5 hours.

Before you place your order please be sure to:• Determine the performances and number of tickets your group needs. Total number

of tickets ordered must include all staff, chaperones, and students attending. We request a ratio of one chaperone for every 10-15 students.

• Determine alternative performances, dates, and/or times in the event your first choice is sold out.

• Include any accomodation services. The Ordway provides wheelchair seating, infrared listening system units, ASL interpretation, and audio description, upon request.

Order changes and refund policies:• Educators must contact Education Sales, 651.282.3115, at least six weeks prior to the

performance regarding any order changes.• If Education Sales is not contacted, the school will be held responsible for the full payment of

the order.• Refunds will be given up to six weeks prior to the performance, provided that the Ordway can

resell your returned tickets.

Performance information:• Please arrive 20-30 minutes prior to your scheduled performance time.• All performances are subject to change and cancellation. You will be notified of any

performance changes.
