Confidence Decision Making Goal Accomplishment Rewards

Collaborative

High confidence and trust in employees.

Decision–making widely dispersed and well integrated across levels.

Collaboration is employed throughout the organization.

Employees influenced through participation, recognition and rewards.

Consultative

Substantial, but not complete confidence and trust in employees.

More decisions made at the lower levels.

Lower levels in organization begin to deal with morale and to cooperate on accomplishing goals.

Influence through reward. Occasional punishment.

Competitive

Limited confidence and trust in employees.

Decision making takes place in middle levels, power is retained at the top.

Lower levels in organization cooperate in accomplishing selected goals of organization.

Some influence through rewards, but most is through fear and punishment.

Coercive

No confidence in employees.

Decisions made at top and issued downward

Lower levels of organization oppose goals established by upper levels.

Influence through fear and punishment.
