campus card project for mount allison university
TRANSCRIPT
Mount Allison University
Ranked as the Number One Canadian
university in 17 of the past 23 years,
Mount Allison has an enrolment of
2,400 students from around the
world, and a faculty-to-student ratio
of 16:1.
Technological Focus
Technological excellence is a big
focus at the university – it was the
first in Canada to provide campus-
wide internet access – and
administration and faculty
continually strive to deliver a
student experience that is enriched
by the best that technology can
deliver.
Careful Consideration
Although ITC Systems has had an
outstanding working relationship with
Mount Allison for more than 15 years, the
university felt obliged to invite other
providers to bid for the right to upgrade
the school’s transaction control system to
a card solution that would include an
improved access control system.
Why ITC Systems?
The university was interested in installing a
world-class access control system that
would put student safety first. As providers
of transaction control solutions for more
than 25 years, ITC Systems won the bid to
convert Mount Allison’s transaction control
system from magnetic stripe to Mifare
Contactless Card technology.
What Was Involved?
ITC Systems put a full-service multi-use
card system in place that students and
staff can use for photocopying, printing,
vending, laundry, food services, bookstore
purchases and sports centre transactions.
Reporting is centralized so administrators
can generate reports when needed.
Volanté Point of Sale
ITC Systems also installed Volanté
Point of Sale software for all food
services transactions at the
university. This system works
seamlessly in both on-and-offline
environments and allows for
superior reporting capabilities.
Salto Door Access
The crowning achievement of the Mount
Allison project is the implementation of
Salto door access systems at various
locations throughout campus.
Implementation is now complete in the
facilities management building and ITC
Systems is proceeding with additional
buildings, including residences.
Enhanced Security
The Salto door access control system
allows university administration to
eliminate the challenges that come with
the use of physical keys. The switch to card
access means security is substantially
enhanced and locks can be reprogrammed
at a moment’s notice to ensure the safety
and security of students and property.
A Rewarding Experience
Mount Allison had high expectations for the
experiences their new card system and
access control systems would deliver, and
ITC Systems staff were delighted to help. As
a company that is focused on global
leadership in the technology field, ITC
Systems values the opportunity to work with
customers like Mount Allison University.
