First Presbyterian Church

Brothers and sisters, thank you for your presence at worship today. Our praise is stronger and our prayers are deeper because of each precious individual enriching the whole. Welcome!

“Search me, God, and know my heart … lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23-24, NIV). Amen.

We invite everyone to take a moment during the offertory to sign the Church Attendance Register. A special welcome is extended to all who are visiting with us this morning. We hope that your worship experience will be meaningful and enjoyable. If you are interested in learning more about First Presbyterian Church or becoming a member of this congregation, please speak with Pastor Lisa Ruth, the Church Office or any Elder.

This morning we WELCOME Adam Demetros to our pulpit. Adam is a native of Vestal, NY and a graduate from Binghamton University where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Socio-Cultural Anthropology with a concentration in religious studies. While studying for his undergraduate degree, Adam began to feel a calling to administer to the community of Christ Jesus. Subsequently, he moved to the Poconos to pursue a Master's of Public Administration in nonprofit religious organizations from East Stroudsburg University. After graduation, Adam went on to Princeton Theological Seminary to further explore his calling and to prepare for ordered ministry in the Presbyterian Church (USA). Adam graduated this past May with a Master's of Divinity and is currently a candidate for ministry. He recently moved back into the Vestal area where his fiancée, Amanda, will be attending Binghamton University for her Master's Degree in Literacy Education. We are thankful Adam is leading us in worship this morning.

The TRUSTEES responsible for counting today are Art Maxwell and Steve McKeegan. The Trustees responsible for counting on August 6 are Tom Leo and Steve McKeegan.

The Kirk Thrift Shoppe really appreciates all the wonderful donations and wants to extend a huge thanks to everyone for their support! Also to all the volunteers who have helped make The Kirk a success- it has become a true fellowship project, with new friendships being formed among the volunteers but also with some regular customers who come in often. Everyone knows we put out new items every week! Mid-August we will start bringing out some back to school clothes and items- so keep an eye out here! Also remember to buy raffle tickets for the Office for the Aging quilt- the winner will be drawn at the Delhi Harvest Festival on Sat. Sept 23rd. To all the Holiday Bazaar chairs- we are saving a lot of books, Christmas, white elephant, jewelry, children, crafts and silent auction Items and I am sure there will be much more by Sat Nov. 4th!

Alzheimer’s care team – If you are interested in supporting others by serving on an Alzheimer’s care team, please contact the office. The team would provide respite for people who are struggling to care for someone in their home with Alzheimer’s or other memory loss diseases. Training is provided (3 hours). A four person team would then have a 2 hour time commitment each month. Brochures with additional information are available in the church office and on the bulletin board in the office hallway.

Thoughts on Giving: “We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.” - ROMANS 8:28 Do you really trust God? Do you believe that all things work for good? Faith is a challenge for everyone at times. Putting our trust in God, in everything we do, means that God’s plan for our lives may be different than our plan. When one door closes, another one opens. Trust in God, His plan is always better. Stewardship Prayer: That we learn to put our trust in God in everything we do.
