Call for Abstracts College of Science Research Day 2010 Friday, April 30, 2010 Physical Education Building Lobby and Fenn Tower Panel Hall The College of Science invites submission of abstracts for Research Day poster sessions from all Cleveland State University College of Science students and faculty on current research, teaching and service topics. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS: Submit an abstract electronically as an attached file to [email protected] using the format below. In the email subject line, indicate: ‘COS Poster Abstract’ followed by the first author’s last name, department (e.g., COS Poster Abstract – Graf, PSY). The deadline for submitting abstracts is 8:00 am Monday, April 19, 2010. Submitting authors will be contacted by email after submissions have been received. REQUIRED ABSTRACT FORMAT (use sample below as guide ): MicrosoftWord for PC (not Mac/Apple or Word Perfect) Times New Roman 10 point; full justification TITLE: All capital letters & bold; do not indent AUTHORS: List names (first name, middle initial, last name) and highest degrees. Presenting author should be in bold ; list department and institution below authors. If there are two or more authors from different departments or institutions, use superscript numbers to identify affiliations Leave one blank line between the title/author block and the text TEXT: Single spaced; do not indent Text should not exceed 300 words SAMPLE ABSTRACT: VALIDATION OF THE SDS-17 MEASURE OF SOCIAL DESIRABILITY BIAS IN THE AMERICAN CONTEXT Allyson S. Neuendorf, Ph.D. 3 1 Department of Psychology, Cleveland State University; 2 Marketing Strategies Inc.; 3 School of Communication, Cleveland State University In Germany, Stober and Colleagues (1999, 2001) presented evidence for the validity of the SDS-17, a new measure of “social desirability bias,” i.e. distorted self report of responses that present oneself in a socially attractive manner. Measures of the magnitude of this bias may be dependent upon the cultural surrounding, however. Three experiments (n=800) assessed the SDS-17’s validity in the USA environment. In all conditions in all three studies, SDS-17 scores correlated highly with scores . . . . . . .
