Heart of Alaska Cruise/Land TourJuly 13 - 25, 2015

Join us for a spectacular 13-day Heart of Alaska Cruise-Tour! This cruise tour combines 7 nights of gliding through nature’s showplace on a Voyage of the Glaciers Cruise, plus 4 days on land spotlighting the attractions of Fairbanks, Denali and Kenai peninsula. You’ll discover that for every glacier, there’s a floral valley just as sensational; for every whale, there’s a bear or caribou; and the personal service from Royal Caribbean Cruises.

SOLD OUT

There was a lot going on in August and we are lucky to have so many helpful co-workers (active and retired!) to fill in at the movie when there are calendar conflicts. Becky and Gail ran the morning movie and the afternoon movie was handled by Gail and Betty Andreasen. Thank you, ladies, for covering for me while I was in Ireland with the group.

The August movie, “Philomena”, was shown to a crowd of 83 members and I have heard nothing but good reviews about the show. I’m glad you had a good Heritage Club movie experience! I have yet to see this show, but I’m sure I will like it if you all did. Thanks to Don Jacobs & Sharon Davis for helping with the drawings. The $2 prizes were won by Betty Lines, Gayle Daehling, Bill Langley, Rita Lammers, Lynn Bair, Charles Bagby, Joan Clements, Ronnie Rogers, Florence Larsen, and Ben Fischer. Both of the $Moneybags$ prizes were given away also – Richard Lines won $10 and Butch Hansen won $40. Congratulations to all winners! The next movie will be on Wednesday, September 10th. Movies are shown at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the Blair 3 Theatres, so please join us for treats and a movie.

We had a wonderful time on our Ireland trip and the luck of the Irish was upon us throughout the 10 days, providing favorable weather conditions. The occasional rain shower (very common in Ireland) did not dampen our spirits or affect our touring as most of it happened while our bus was traveling from place to place. We did see a few rainbows, but no luck finding a pot of gold or catching sight of a leprechaun! The beauty of the flowers and landscape was overwhelming at times…all of that rain sure makes for gorgeous views throughout the country. We visited so many interesting places, but I think one of

the favorites was Rathbaun Farms where we got to watch sheep herding and shearing in action. We were also treated to the best homemade scones ever tasted, covered with butter, rhubarb jam and whipped cream to top it off – YUM! We also had an extraordinary bus driver/guide from Limerick. Martin was so knowledgeable and helpful during our entire visit.

We will be traveling to Lincoln on September 30th for our Pipes & Politics day tour. If you have not paid for your reservation, please send it to me as soon as possible. Thank you.

All I can say is “wow” when I think about how quickly the Heart of Alaska Land/Cruise tour filled up. Nearly all of the cabins were reserved within 24 hours after the travel show, which is incredible. The trip is now sold out completely and I have a couple of names on a waiting list (in the event of a cancellation). Now we wait in anticipation for our July 2015 adventure!

We have a new one-day tour scheduled for Thursday, November 13th, which will take us to Omaha to visit Boys Town, Joslyn Castle, Joslyn Museum and Outlook Nebraska. More information is included in this newsletter. Again, as a reminder, the one-day trips tend to fill up quickly so please let me know right away (call 402-533-0103) if you want to make a reservation.

Don’t forget to join us for our annual Community Cookouts in Blair and Tekamah. Dates and times are listed on the front of the newsletter, so mark your calendar and stop by for food and entertainment. This is our way of saying thanks to the community for their support and having some fun at the same time !

Omaha’s Difference MakersNovember 13, 2014

Join us for a one-day trip to visit the Difference Makers in Omaha! We will travel by a deluxe motor coach to tour Father Flanagan’s Boys Town, Joslyn Castle, Joslyn Museum and Outlook Nebraska. While at the Joslyn Museum, we will enjoy a boxed lunch before viewing the many works of art displayed in this beautiful building. Reservations and Cost:Cost per person is $70. Full payment is required with your reservation. Don’t wait long, space is limited for this one-day trip!
