To See His Glory! What would you say is the essential ingredient for you to recognize Jesus as someone more than just a great teacher and a nice person? The crowds were given a brief glimpse of who Jesus really is on that day when He entered Jerusalem before His final Passover on earth. “And the crowds that went before Him and that followed Him were shouting, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest’” (Matt. 21:9)! Their words of praise and celebration come from Psalm 118 with a promise that God would answer our cries for salvation by sending the one, true Messiah King. But what kind of Messiah King would He be? Who is He really? The crowds ultimately got it wrong because they had their own ideas of what the Messiah King should be. And the truth is, we all have our own ideas and expectations that often supersede the truth. As Jesus rode into Jerusalem, this glimpse of His true identity would soon take a tragic twist as many in the crowd who were crying out for His glory would soon be shouting for his death. When their expectations weren’t met, many of them turned on Jesus and sided with their own ideas rather than the truth in God’s Word. Faith in God’s Word (greater than our own ideas or expectations) is essential for understanding who Jesus is. “Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush Him and cause Him to suffer, and though the Lord makes His life an offering for sin, He will see His offspring and prolong His days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in His hand” (Isaiah 53:10). Do you see Jesus in those Words? There is your true savior this Easter! -Jason

Our next Leadership Summit is scheduled for Sunday, 5.3, at 4p in our downstairs Gathering Circle. All leaders and ministry teams are encouraged to attend as we continue to build on our 2020 Church Vision and plan for our June VBS. There will be meaningful ministry team planning in our special breakout sessions.

We are living in unprecedented times, and it calls for unprecedented faith. Our current situation should be stirring us to rise up, rather than hunker down. I am not suggesting that we live recklessly. Rather, I am suggesting that we live courageously.

In Joshua 3:13, God assures the people that As soon as the priests who carry the ark of the Lord - the Lord of all the earth - set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap. When the Israelites came to the Jordan River, there was no way for them to get across. God told Joshua to have the priests who were carrying the Ark of the Covenant to step into the river, and then the waters would part. He didn’t tell them to wait until the waters parted before they stepped in. He said, “Go!”We say, “God, when You part the river, I’ll go.” God says, “Go, and I’ll part the river.” God purposefully puts us in situations where it looks impossible. When we don’t see how it can work out, or where the funds are coming from, or when every thought tells us to play it safe. God calls us to step into the unknown. When we do, we’ll see miracles, and doors will open that we couldn’t open.Let’s turn off the TV and put down the smartphone, and get into God’s Word, and increase our time in personal worship and in prayer. But don’t simply pray for health and protection, pray for revival: locally and globally!

When we act in faith, that’s when Jordan Rivers will part. Worship Well! -Brad (Want to join my India Ministry mailing list? Send an email to [email protected] and put “India” In the subject line.)

Relationships Matterhelping you get connected in Group Ministry

We tend to joke this time of year about life’s two certainties of death and taxes, but when difficult situations remind us of life’s uncertainty, the fact that it is tax season tends to not matter as much.

In Numbers 20, Moses was going through a difficult time. He had not only lost his sister and brother, but in a moment of anger, he also lost permission to enter the Promised Land. The Israelite’s reaction to difficult times was all too common and because of their persistent unbelief, a whole generation would die before reaching their destination.

In the next chapter, anger and impatience during difficult times once again sidetracked the Israelites to where venomous snakes were killing them, yet God provided deliverance to those who would look up to a serpent on a pole (21:8).

Years later, when God’s people were experiencing difficult times, they would once again be reminded that, “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.” -John 3:14-15

The suffering and death of Jesus displayed God’s power and love to the world. During these uncertain times, I encourage you to not only look to Jesus but also look for opportunities where He is working in our world. As we strive to be like Jesus, may we find ways during this time to love, serve, and even suffer alongside one another that His Name may be glorified.

-David Costellow
