Rebels, Cheaters, and Harlots: What God Does with Broken People

For the past few months, we've been talking about brokenness. Somehow, it seems safer to talk about brokenness when we're speaking of Bible characters, people we've never met and don't have to interact with on a regular basis. It's more difficult when we start sharing our own brokenness, or when someone shares their brokenness with us. Our welcome this morning comes from Dee Cooper, who was brave enough to share about her own experience with brokenness. My brokenness comes in the form of not feeling "good enough" to be in relationship with. This even extends to my relationship with God, and I have struggled all my life with this. I had a critical parent and I always felt I just could not measure up to the standards that were set before me. As I got older I took those thoughts into all relationships I formed, and eventually took that thought process into my marriage and my relationship with God. Instead of concentrating on God’s words that tell us to "knock, seek, ask", I listened to the whispers of Satan that asked, “Why would God need you in his kingdom? What could you possibly offer?” I have spent many years of my life on the sidelines because of my insecurities, not fully relying on God or trusting him to use me. Even though it has taken years and I still struggle from time to time with my brokenness of not feeling good enough, God has never given up on me, and He has been consistent in showing me who He is and how much He loves me. I am finally learning to listen to His words that tell me I am Good enough, and I always have been.

A message and request from our Missionary Joel Toonstra:

Tuesday, November 7, 2017 Hey dear friends back home, As you are all gearing up for the holidays in different ways, would you please consider one small favor from me personally.....

This last year has been very hard on my beautiful bride Tiffany, and as we approach our fifth holiday here in Macedonia without friends, family, and many of our traditions that make them so spe-cial, this can just add to that feeling.

So I'm asking you all to consider sending Tiffany a Christmas card/handwritten note in the next couple weeks, as this would be a huge pick me up to her, and would also help replace one of those Christ-mas traditions we miss out on here. If you feel led to encourage my wife in this tangible way, just remember these important things:

1. Our mailing address is 18a Lerinska, Skopje, Macedonia, 1000 2. Please send within the next two weeks, as mail takes longer to arrive here, and mail that arrives in early to mid-December some-times just gets held at the Post Office for up to a month until they have enough to justify making a trip out to our neighborhood. 3. This card is for Tiffany, not me, so please keep it personalized to her! If you'd like to send a card for the family, feel free to send an additional card, but specifically I'd like her to be blown away by the people that remember HER only! Thanks!!! Joel
