Page 2: CAL SOUTH ANNUAL REPORT

The past twelve months have been an exciting period for Cal South. We have continued toexcel while working to improve our services. Some of the things we have accomplished help tomaintain our leadership in the youth sports arena.

One of my main goals in the past year was to create corporate transparency. I am cognizantof my role as a President of an organization that services children and families. Cal South actionsshould always be visible and open for all to see. Our Board of Directors has adopted a Code ofEthics that should be a model for all non-profit organizations. We have also created a Disclosureform for all Cal South personnel so all possible conflicts of interests are publicly disclosed. TheBoard members were among the first to complete the forms, which are available for public viewingat our corporate office.

Another commitment is to expand the influence of Cal South and US Youth Soccer intocommunities otherwise unaffiliated. The Board authorized and oversaw the creation of the positionof Director of Competition and Membership Development to carry out this important goal. This willincrease membership in Cal South, while offering new members the opportunity to share in thebenefits of being part of our soccer family.

Cal South players have continued to excel at all levels. I congratulate our players, families, coaches and supporters for their efforts in the National Championships, Regional Championships,National Cup and State Cup Championships. Once again, Cal South was able to contribute, fromState and National Cup funds, donations to our teams that advanced to the Regional and Nationallevels of play. I have had the pleasure of conversing with Presidents from other state associations aswell as coaches and parents from other states. When I tell them how much we contribute to ourteams, they are amazed and envious.

200DEAR MEMBERS,DEAR MEMBERS,

Page 3: CAL SOUTH ANNUAL REPORT

Our Olympic Development Program has continued to be a source of great pride, with ourteams recently winning seven out of eight Regional Championships. This is a credit to our ODPplayers and staff, their parents, and their club coaches.

The Cal South Top Soccer program continues to be the world’s finest. We are the examplethat other states follow to develop their programs. Every player should have an opportunity to playsoccer.

The Cal South referee development program continues to be the envy of otherassociations. Other states now seek to send their youth referees to our development camp. Ourown young referees continue to excel at the Regional and National Youth levels.

The Cal South coaching education program continues to create curriculum and train coacheson all levels starting with recreational soccer. The influence of our programs extends far beyond ourgeographic boundaries.

My goal is to continue to deliver quality services to Cal South members. We need todemonstrate strong leadership for our leagues, teams, players and families. Every year the bar is sethigher. We will continue to succeed through vision and hard work.

Yours in soccer,

Gregory P. FalkPresident, Cal South

Cal South’s Olympic Development Program continuedto assert itself as the preeminent source of elite youthsoccer talent at the 2006 US Youth Soccer ODPRegion IV Camps.

CAL SOUTH ODP SPOTLIGHT

The camps, which took place throughout July at Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon for the boys, and in Moscow, Idaho for the girls, are a major component of the identification process which helpsdetermine players named to U.S. National Team Camp and Pool rosters.

Out of the 139 players that Cal South sent to the Regional Camps, 93 players, a whopping two-thirds of the group, were named to the Region IV Team Pools. 72% of the boys (57 of 79) movedforward, as did 60% of the girls (36 of 60). Additionally, four boys and three girls from the ‘91age group were named to the Region IV Pools, even though they were unable to attend the Regional Camps due to National Camp commitments.

The ‘93 Boys team proved to be the most stunning success, as 18 out of 18 players sent to the fieldsin McMinville, Oregon made it onto the Regional Pool. The boys then nearly made a group leap intothe BU14 National Camp as well, with 15 of the boys getting named to that roster. The ‘92 Boyssquad almost duplicated the ‘93’s achievement by having 18 of its 22 players make the RegionalPools, with five of the boys moving on to the National Camp.

4 CAL SOUTH CLUBS CAPTURE GLORY AT US YOUTHSOCCER NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPSThanks to some very hard work, Cal South clubs walked away from the 2006 US Youth Soccer NationalChampionships with an incredible four trophies in tow, solidifying its dominance on the youth soccer scene. Thisdominance springs from the simple fact that Cal South teams have now won an amazing 30% of the NationalChampionships over the past six years, capturing 22 out of 72 total titles. Cal South’s next nearest competitor isIllinois, who have won 7 titles. (see sidebar) This also includes 9 out of 24 titles in the last two years alone.

The BU17 Arsenal FC pulled off arguably one of the hardest feats in youth soccer: winning National Championshiptrophies three years in a row. Their 3:1 victory over the North Texas Solar SC won them not only the Don GreerCup, but also allowed them to become the first boys team, and only the second team ever, in US Youth Soccerhistory to perform a “three-peat”. Goals from Hector Jimenez, Daniel Rodriguez and Daniel Ortega led Arsenal’sdrive into the US Youth Soccer history books.

Working on a little run of their own, the BU15 So Cal United captured their second National Championship in arow through a 4:0 rubout of East Pennsylvania’s FC Delco Hammerheads. Evan Raynr, whose performance wasimpressive enough to earn him a spot in the U-17 National Residency Program, supplied a hat trick on his way tobeing named the adidas Golden Boot winner, while teammate Elmer Abelar won his second consecutive GoldenGlove award with his outstanding goalkeeping. The GU14 ISC Strikers, who also won the Far West Regionals lastyear as 13 year-olds, captured the Elmer Ehlers Cup with a 1:0 shutout over East Pennsylvania’s Hershey Attack, with the Strikers’ Julie McKee providing the difference by sinking a goal in the 45th minute. Having now won theRegionals three years in a row, the BU14 Valley United Blast made the most of their first crack at the Nationals byslipping past the Dallas Texans 3:2 to win the US Youth National Cup. A pair of goals from Eduardo Gonzalez setup the Blast, while a 54th minute goal from Dillon Short secured the victory.

Each of the winning Cal South teams were also fortunate to have two of its players named as either adidas GoldenGlove or Golden Boot winners, awards given to the players who proved to have the most competitive impact in thechampionship finals for each age bracket. Additionally, though his U19 Arsenal FC team lost in its bid to capturethe fifth championship title for Cal South, keeper Kelin Briones was named as a Golden Glove for his excellence inthe net.

Fair Play Awards were handed out at each of the trophy ceremonies for the teams that showed the highest level ofgood sportsmanship and attitude on the pitch. The four championship-winning teams and the GU18 San Diego Surfall were recognized with this honor and were fantastic ambassadors for the Southern California youth soccercommunity. Cal South was the only state association to have more than one Fair Play Award winner.
