Cal America news
July 19th, such a lovely day that I had
been waiting for since the Dodgers baseball game
ended in happiness. The night before that day, I
tried to prepare as many snacks as I could. I even
prepared a pair of badminton bats to play with
our best players Amy and Gannon.
The weather was a little strange that day.
When we were waiting for the bus, it was
so incredibly hot that I took off my jacket and put
in my bag, but I didn't notice that it would cause
my bag to be heavier. While waiting for the bus,
M stole my badminton bat and tried to play it as a
guitar, then he asked me, 'Why don't you dance?"
The worst thing happened: Bianca, Amy, Masa,
and some other students asked me to compete
against Masa, who had won the second prize in
Okinawa dance contest. Oh my god! I can't dance
at all. I really wished they were just kidding then.
After a tiring journey, we finally got to
Pan Pacific Park. They food was very, very deli-
cious, but I ate only three hot dogs with relish and
a lot of lemonade. l really hoped that I could eat
more, but I couldn't wait anymore to play with
the others. I played Frisbee with Taehee, Coco,
and the other student, but it was not that fun be-
cause none of us could throw the Frisbee vey
well. Later M asked me to play football with him,
but I can't throw the ball very well, even though
Moto just taught us how to throw it. Soon, my
body got hurt because of the strength which came
with the ball. To have some easy and comfortable
things to do, I tried to play soccer with Alex, the
little boy we met at the barbeque, but soon I had
big trouble again. Alex didn't like to pick up the
ball which he had kicked away by himself, so it
was necessary for me to pick up the ball for him.
Actually, I think I just looked like a dog catching
the ball for a little master.
Eventually, I had to take a break, but
Gannon asked me to play badminton with him,
even though I was tired, but I still felt happy that I
could play with our best player. However, the
weather became windy as soon as we started to
play. Because of the wind, poor Gannon and I
could just pick up the ball again and again. At last,
Pat, Moto, Ton, M, and I played soccer together,
but I was not good at soccer either. Poor
me, I can't play as well as them, so I didn't
score until the end. I think I should say sorry to
my partner, Pat. It was horrible!
On our way home, the weather became
sunny again. With the heavy bag and thirst, I felt I
was dying.
Although the trip was killing me,
this was my first time going outside having fun
with a lot of my best friends. I am too shy to try it
in Taiwan. I'll never forget it. It was one of the
best experiences in my life. Thanks to Cal Amer-
ica very much, I could try something that I had
never tried before.

At first, when I was 13 years old, my father bought a guitar
for me, but at that time I did not know how to play it, so I put it in
my bedroom for a long time. One year later, I saw my friends play-
ing music on a stage in school. Many people liked them and I did
too. We sang and danced together. That was very fun. After that I
thought I wanted to be like them, I also wanted to make them feel
happy and have fun, so I wanted to play the guitar right there.
I began to play the guitar by myself, and my father also
taught me, but I could not do it well, so my mother suggested study-
ing at the guitar school. I studied once a week for around 2 years, so
I could play it better. I studied notes in the classic style, but I did not
like it. I wanted to play electric guitar, and I wanted to play in the
rock style, so I left the school. I bought my first electric guitar, and
then I practiced by myself.
When I was in high school, I had a band. I practiced with
my band, and then I could compete in a music contest at my high
school. I entered the music contest almost every year until I gradu-
ated with a bachelor’s degree. I was always happy when I made peo-
ple who saw me feel happy and have fun, which was always my goal,
so I was happy too.
In addition, I really liked to learn about sounds and instru-
ments too. I learned and accumulated instruments. Different sounds
are made by different instruments. That was so interesting to me.
Nowadays, I do not play the guitar anymore because I do
not have one in L.A., so I really miss it. I think I will buy one soon.
more angry; “It’s none of your business”, which enrages people be-
cause it cuts them off and make them feel like outsiders; and
“Because those are the rules”, which doesn’t make sense and can
make you look unreasonable. Overall, I really like this book because
it taught me a lot of things that I have never known before. It’s also
very useful for communicating in my everyday life.
I read a good book recently named ‘Verbal Judo’ that talks
about communicating and negotiating with people effectively. The
author, named George J. Thompson, who is a policeman, has a lot
of experience in using good words in different situations, especially
in critical ones. He said that most police officers are killed and in-
jured on duty because they don’t know how to effectively convince
thieves. To illustrate, when the officer faces a thief who is armed. He
has to negotiate carefully and give the thief respect to bring him
down. Furthermore, he said that there are 11 words people should-
n’t say to anyone such as “Calm down”, which makes everyone feel

thon's mouth and her head inside. I was shocked for a while, and
then threw everything near me at the python and pulled my cat's leg,
which made the python let my cat go and run away. I saw my cat was
very wet of the python's saliva and she wasn’t breathing. I thought
she was dead but I hoped I could help her. I tried to give her CPR,
and she coughed suddenly and then she came back. I cried out like
a crazy person because I couldn't believe I could help my cat. She
survived. After that, I thought if the python tried me, I would die
first.
There is something that I think I know more about than
anyone I know. It is a story about my cat. I love pets so much that I
have five dogs and seven cats in my house. One of them, Sudsuay, is
a fast black cat. One day ten years ago, I let her out of the cage in the
morning. She liked to hide herself in the bushes and climb up on
the top of the tree. Every time I called her, she always came back
very quickly. But on that day, after two hours, I called her back but
she didn't come so I thought that something was wrong. I started to
look for her. I walked around my garden for one hour but I couldn't
find her. I tried hard to find her again.
Suddenly I heard something strange, so I rushed to the
middle of garden and I saw the back legs of my cat outside a py-

I went to theater with my cousin. I was very excited to see
Fast & Furious 6 because when I was in Thailand, I saw all of The
Fast & Furious movies, and I really liked them. I was very happy to
see Fast & Furious 6 in the U.S.A.. However, when I went into the
theater, I was a little worried because it does not have English subti-
tles, but I was still excited to see it. After the movie finished, I did
not understand the story clearly, but I had fun. The movie was very
interesting and exciting, so I liked it.
In addition, I like sports cars in the movie. It made me
want to buy one, but they are very expensive, so I cannot do it.
I like the actors too. I like Vin Diesel and Dwayne John-
son, especially Dwayne Johnson, whose nick name is The Rock, and
who was a very smart wrestler. When I was a kid, I liked to watch
wrestling. I’ve known and liked him until now. He is very popular.
Nowadays, he does not wrestle at all because he has been an actor
and now, he is very popular. He is so handsome. I want to be mus-
cular like him.
There is one more thing that I really like in the movie
which is the song named "We Own It", by 2 Chainz feat.Wiz Khalifa.
I downloaded it on the internet to listen when I work out at the gym.
It is very cool.

your yummy meal. You can buy not only a bowl of ramen, but also
a plate of sushi or curry there. There are also many other choices,
such as fried cutlet and fried shrimp there. If you are thirsty, the
beer and wine there are you best choices. Some kinds of food are
cheap too, such as the "Lunch Special", which has an ISA ramen, a
salad, a side of kimchi, and a sushi roll. It just costs $6.99. Also if
you surf its website to get a coupon, it’ll be cheaper.
Don't miss this restaurant which has 3.5 stars on
yelp.com. Come and find it at 740 S. Western Ave, #116, LA,
CA. The telephone number is (213) 382- 9020.
Isa Ramen is a Japanese restaurant near Cal America. Even
though there are a lot of delicious restaurants near the school, it's one
of the best restaurants for you to go. It takes you just a few minutes to
walk there. You will see the old Japanese construction as soon as you
open the door softly. When you hear the greeting from the Japanese
waitress, you'll understand how friendly Japanese people are. When
you are listening to the Japanese songs and looking at the pictures
which are about Japan, you'll feel just like that you are staying in
ancient Japan, and besides that, you'll be able to see the Chef mak-
ing sushi and ramen in the kitchen. Don't be worried about the food.
The chef has already washed his hands before making your plates.
The food is easy to order. Even if you cannot speak Japa-
nese or English very well, you just need to choose the favorite one
and point out the food pictures on the wall and then you can enjoy

Ronaldo Hugged By Yuuki Fujisawa
On August 7, the International Champion’s Cup match between Real Madrid and Chelsea was in Miami. The result of the game was 3-1. Real Madrid won, but the real amazing and unbelievable event was during the sec-ond half. A spectator intruded the ground and sprinted to Cristiano Ronaldo. We were surprised that he hugged Ronaldo and whispered in his ear. When Ronaldo was hugged, he hugged back. Ronaldo was a very kind man. They hugged for about 10 seconds. Everyone in the audi-ence was cheering and clapping.
Nowadays, knowledge is the most important resource for people. The more knowledge you know better than others, the more ad-
vantages you will get. "What is something I know more about than anyone I know?" is the question that many people ask themselves. For me,
I'm interested in Human Resource Management and Human Resource Development. Since I graduated in Political Science in the major of
HR and worked in this field for 2 years, I have gained a lot of knowledge about HR, which is at the core of every company. There are essential
things I have learned and I think I know more than anyone I know.
First, I know conditions that are used to estimate starting salary rate for a new employee, such as work experience, education back-
ground, and specialized career training that affect a new one's ability. This estimation is very substantial for the recruitment of potential employ-
ees with a suitable salary for them. It challenged me most to try to make a win-win negotiation between the applicant and my company.
Second, I know about the yearly review process for all employees, which has around 20,000 people. My colleague and I had to man-
age a budget that was approved by the CEO to increase salaries for employees.
Third, I know clearly about taxation because I was a tax consultant for my company. I calculated taxes for employees every year.
Moreover, I had to take many classes and seminars about taxes. Therefore, I know well how to invest in funds that can diminish your taxation.
In conclusion, there is beneficial knowledge that I have gained from my job and I think I know more than anyone about this field that
can be useful in the future.

We all know that we only have one Earth, but we are still destroying it. The ice in the North Pole is melting, but none of us can stop it.
The species of animals are going extinct very quickly, and no one can protect them. The ocean's level is rising, so many of us will become
homeless one day, including my country. Our technology isn't good enough to let us move to another planet or prevent our home from sub-
merging, but there are still some ways to make this phenomenon slow down. Recycling is one of the easiest ways.
Many people think that recycling is troublesome, but actually it’s very easy for us to do. What we need is to just classify the garbage we
produce into several kinds, such as paper, glass, batteries, and cans. The next step is to throw them into different trashcans, and you’re done.
Isn’t it easy?
There are many advantages, too. You can get pocket money by giving recycling plants your collection. Not only that, but you can
also reuse many things, like cans, glass, paper in an environmental way. By recycling, we can create less landfills to handle some complicated
substances. For example: some plastic bottles cannot decompose naturally for more than one hundred years, even if we use landfills, but
recycling can solve this problem.
Recycling is just a piece of cake for us to do. If all of us recycle, then our planet will be sure to be more wonderful. The key to saving
our world is in our hands, so why not do this together to improve our lives?

On this site, you can find many more cases of regional weirdness,
such as in my home state of New Jersey. In only that state, the
words "Mary", "merry", and "marry" are pronounced differently.
Here is an entry from Cal America’s Japanese/ English blog at
http://ameblo.jp/cal-america/
Everyone knows that people in different cities often speak the
same language very differently. Take Osaka and Tokyo for exam-
ple. Here are some examples of English unique to LA or the west
coast.
-Say "freeway", not "highway".
-Say "the 10", not "I-10" when you talk about the freeway. Almost
every other place in America will say "I-10".
-"Caught" sounds exactly like "Cot" in the west, but they sound dif-
ferent in the east.
-In the west, people say "fireflies", but in the east, they say "lightning
bugs".
-Californians tend to put the word "like" all throughout their sen-
tences. It's very similar to "eto" in Japanese. Actually, all young
Americans do this nowadays too.
These differences and more can be studied at this website, put
together by a Joshua Katz of North Carolina State University:
