WHAT’ S NEW FOR DOWNHOLE EXPLORER MR22

The table below outlines the work that has been completed for the current Release version of

Downhole Explorer.

Main Messages for MR22

• License Services “User Access Control” Feature

Maintenance Release 23 (MR23) of CAE License Services includes a powerful new feature

to allow licenses and/or solutions to be allocated to Windows NT accounts and groups.

•

Windows 8 Compatibility

This version of S5DP has been tested against Microsoft’s latest Windows platform (8),

which is now fully supported.

• Side-by-Side Robustness

This version of S5DP has been engineered to co-exist with other CAE Products on thesame system without unexpected behaviour following install/uninstall operations.

• Fusion 7 Connectivity

Several issues relating to connectivity with CAE Fusion 7 have been resolved to allow a

seamless transfer of downhole data into your reporting views.

• Maintenance Code Updates

This version introduces several code fixes and minor improvements over the previousversion.

• Please review “MR22 License Services – Technical Note”, further below, before

installing this beta version.

• You have a suitable testing environment available. Please review the “Side-by-Side

Support” note further below before installing this beta version. It is recommended thatyou do not install this beta version on a system that includes other CAE products as this

aspect is still being tested by the engineers.

SIDE-BY-SIDE SUPPORT

• Installation packages have been completely redesigned for this version of Studio to

isolate the Studio package from other installed CAE products. This will prevent the issuesthat have been reported against previous versions where shared components areupdated, affecting CAE products other than Studio.

Selecting this option displays the following dialog:

If an Enterprise Server License is available on the host system, the Add User or Group button isenabled. This is used to access standard Windows controls to select NT Users and/or Groups,

e.g.:

Licensing Permissions

Once assigned, two permission types are available:

• Use License:

Allow: the user or group can access the license/solution remotely from acompatible CAE Application client, but not check it out (unless the Check Out

License permission has been allowed)

o Deny: the user or group is explicitly denied access to the license remotely, even if

they are part of a group that has remote access permissions.

• Check Out License

o Allow: the user or group can check the license/solution out to a local clientmachine but will not permit the user to access the license remotely unless the UseLicense permission is allowed.

o Deny: the user or group is explicitly prohibited from checking the license/solution

out to a local machine, even if they are part of a group that has check outpermissions allowed.

Common Scenarios

I wish to check out or remotely access a solution to Site XYZ of my organization only – Site ABCmust not be able to check out or remotely access this solution.

Setup:

1. On the licensing server, ensure the Enterprise License Server is installed and that all

members of the XYZ site that require access are added to an NT group (A).

2. Group all qualifying user accounts in the ABC site into a different group (B).

3. Set “Allow” permissions for group A for both Use License and Check Out License options.

4. Set “Deny” permissions for group B for both Use License and Check Out License options.

My organization does not wish to remotely serve licenses – they must always be checked outbefore use. I want my geology department to be able to check out the Studio solution license

bundle only and my Mine Planners to access the Studio 5D Planner license bundle only

Setup:

1. On the licensing server, ensure the Enterprise License Server is installed and that allmembers of the Geology department that require access are added to an NT group (A).

2. Group all qualifying user accounts in the Mine Planning department into a different group

(B).

3. Set permissions for the Studio Solution so that both Group A and B are denied permissionto Use License

4. For the Studio solution, set permissions for Group A only to allow Check Out License

Important Note: Compatibility with Previous Versions

Due to the changes required to support the “User Access Control” feature in MR23 LicenseServices, it may be necessary to upgrade CAE License Manager clients that will access the

server. This is only the case if an Enterprise License Server is to be installed on the machine(s)

serving licenses to your organisation.

If you do not intend to make use of the Enterprise License Server, MR23 License Services can

co-exist with earlier versions of CAE License Manager clients on the same network(notwithstanding any previous Technical Notes issued with legacy versions).

If you intend to install an Enterprise License Server, you will need to upgrade CAE LicenseManager on all clients that will access it.

Scenarios:

I have an MR16 version of Datamine License Manager installed on my client machines and

server. I wish to upgrade the server to MR23 but do not wish to install the Enterprise License

Server

Procedure: Due to a previous major upgrade with MR20 License Manager (not related to the

feature described in this document), an upgrade from MR16 to MR23 will require all client andserver platforms to be upgraded to the MR23 version, even if the Enterprise License Server is not

going to be installed/used.

I am setting up a new License Server with MR23 installed. I have a mixture of client License

Manager versions on the network, but all are later than MR20. I do not wish to use the

Enterprise License Server.

Procedure: In this situation, as there is no requirement to control access permissions, only the

License Server needs to be upgraded. This will communicate with the clients that are runningMR20 License Manager or later.

I am setting up a new License Server with MR23 installed. I have a mixture of client LicenseManager versions on the network, but all are later than MR20. I do wish to use the Enterprise

License Server.

Procedure: To permit control of license allocation, in this situation it is necessary to upgrade the

server and all clients that will connect to it.

Wizard is now working as expected in all circumstances.

DHEX-20 Bug Importing a sheet template for a strip log that was generated on

a different machine, the system now completes the process as

expected.

DHEX-21 Bug Previously reported errors when opening a co-workers DHXproject file have been resolved.

DHEX-16/17 Bug A data-specific error that occurred when importing specific

columns from a FUSION database (using the Document Importwizard) has been resolved.

DHEX-15 Bug An instance of system failure when reopening a previouslyimported data table has been resolved.

DHEX-18 Bug An instance of the system halting unexpectedly following a

‘refresh-all’ operation has been resolved.

DHEX-25 Bug A situation where the system would present unexpected

behaviour when loading a DHX project associated with a [LOCAL]Century Database has been resolved.

DHEX-22 Bug Reported instances of an erroneous “Vulcan6.dll” driver

component failing to load have been resolved.

DHEX-10 Bug A specific report of the system becoming unresponsive after

loading a previously-saved DHX project has been resolved.

STUDIO-1854 Bug An instance of system instability encountered when insert a chartusing Windows® 8 has been resolved.

STUDIO-1190 Imp. Importing DSD files will now set the Color field option to blank

instead of COLOUR where no color data exists within the importedfile.

STUDIO-1191 Bug In the previous version, it was possible for the system to giveunexpected results when reloading a dynamic drillhole database.This has been resolved.

STUDIO-1168 Bug In the previous version, it was possible for a histogram based on

loaded (in-memory) data, used in conjunction with the %Frequency option, to give unexpected results. This has been

resolved.

STUDIO-1298 Bug A data-related issue with DXF import resulting in inverted and

incorrectly profiled ramp curves has been resolved.

STUDIO-1346 Bug The issue preventing the successful loading of multiple files usingdrag-and-drop from Windows has been resolved.

STUDIO-1036 Bug Where an attempt is made to load project data through a datasource that is not present on the machine, a warning message isnow displayed.

STUDIO-1340 Imp. Custom installation options are now available from the DHEXinstaller.

STUDIO-1368 Bug An issue with Data | Load | DHLogger Database not recognising

usernames and passwords has been resolved.

STUDIO-117 Bug A data-specific issue preventing the loading of Microstation datafiles has been resolved.

STUDIO-1327 Bug Installing the previous version of License Installer erroneously

disabled server connections activated with existing versions of the

product in some circumstances. This has been resolved.

STUDIO-1883 Bug Installing DHX side-side with Studio 3 and subsequentlyuninstalling either application now correctly removes the desktopitem for the uninstalled application.

STUDIO-1884 Bug DHEX now displays the correct icons in the Add/Remove ControlPanel

STUDIO-1898 Bug The icons shown for the Redraw and Redraw Dynamically

functions in DHX are now correct

Data Source Drivers Release Notes

DSDIE-118 Bug An instance reported of system instability following export of a

DM file to ESRI format has been resolved.

DSDIE-86 Bug A specific issue resulting in failed import of .dgn string data hasbeen resolved.

DSDIE-88 Bug It is now possible to load multiple Vulcan (00t) files and maintain

the original source data colors.

DSDIE-89 Imp. An improved naming convention is now used for objects in

memory following 00t import.

DSDIE-015 Bug A data-specific error reported when importing a microstation .dgn

file has been resolved.

DSDIE-109 Imp. It is now possible to combine multiple 00t files into a single objectwhen the source files are dragged into Studio from an external

window.

DSDIE-116 Bug A system error preventing the import of a subset of v6 Vulcan

Block Models has been resolved.

License Manager Release Notes

LICSERV-28 Imp. Where a user cannot be authenticated by the License Server, theuser is now prompted to enter login credentials.

LICSERV-41 Imp. The new ‘Dinkey Dongle’ hardware from Microcosm is now fully

supported within License Services

LICSERV-46 Imp. Additional user feedback is now provided if it is not possible to

secure a connection to a remote licensing server

LICSERV-56 Imp. Although not formally supported at this time, License Services

can now be launched on a Windows 8 platform.

LICSERV-42 Imp. License Services is now fully rebranded to carry the CAE label.
