On screen resultsThe program is best used interactively and displays asummary of results for all the bar diameters within therange specified, highlighting the most economical main bar and link reinforcement solution in a diagram.A notes panel below the bar arrangement diagramdisplays the basis of the design, e.g. slender or uniaxial.The users preferred bar arrangement may be selected

with the mouse and the bar details button opens adisplay which gives the full reinforcement data.

Integrated analysis, design & detailing solutionCADS RC Column Designer is a popular stand-aloneapplication that can also be purchased and used as partof the CADS Structural Engineering Suite. By using thedynamic Windows linking from CADS Analyse3D, all of

the data for the column design can be imported bydragging the column from CADS Analyse3D onto CADSColumn Designer. Detailed AutoCAD drawings and barbending schedules are produced automatically by CADSRC from the design results.

Printed resultsBy simply clicking on the appropriateitems, user defined A4 titled andnumbered calculation style sheetswill display the required input data,results and diagrams. A header blockis at the top of every page and, togive a professional finish, can becustomised with a bit image, suchas company name or logo. Theheader can also include detailssuch as, date, job number andreference, designed/checked by, and revision number.

Fast and easy data inputInput of column properties, end conditions (fixed, partial,nominal or free), and clear column height automatically

produce the effective height and slenderness ratio.Concrete and reinforcement properties, such as concretestrength, aggregate size/weight, maximum, minimumand preferred diameters for hot rolled mild or hightensile main bars and links can also be entered. A cover calculator automatically assesses cover requiredaccording to fire and durability parameters.

Design or check modeThe software may be used in two ways. Design modefinds a choice of bar arrangements which will resist

specified axial loads andmoments, whereas check mode determines the load andmoment that a column with specified arrangement ofbars will resist.

LoadsAny number of load cases may be applied and thesoftware supports uniaxial and biaxial bending cases.When a column is both slender and unbraced its

deflection may be constrained by other columns in thebuilding. CADS RC Column Designer allows the user tospecify limiting deflections, for each unbraced axis, to be used for the calculation of the additional moments.
