Our History Rugby Union has been played in Caboolture for 36 years and this began when a group of volunteers decided to bring another sport to the Caboolture area to compete with the best in Queensland.

From humble beginnings in 1982 where it was decided that Caboolture needed and could support a Rugby Union Club, we have grown and currently field 4 Senior teams including a Ladies team, 16 Junior teams and an over 35’s Golden Oldies side. We are also continuing our off-season player development sessions to help our junior players reach their full potential through specialised training via our Academy program. Combined, these players and their families along with our Coaches, Managers and volunteers make up a membership of over 850 people.

This figure is growing in excess of 5% each year and the growth shows no sign of slowing in our current season. In recent seasons the club has, through an aggressive marketing flyer campaign, recruited over 100 new players. In 2019 the club is looking to continue this type of recruiting and looking to better these numbers.

Caboolture Rugby Senior teams have spread their wings to play in the Sunshine Coast Rugby Union. Our junior teams play in the Brisbane Competition where they have proven to be a real force bringing home many Premierships and putting in many more grand final appearances. In recent years we have averaged 15 or more of our junior players being selected in regional and state representative teams and this is only set to get better as we field more and more teams each season.

We have one of the best sporting facilities in Queensland, with three well grassed fields all with ARU approved lighting for night games, a solid clubhouse and grandstand that comfortably caters for our many members and a manned administration office throughout the season.

Becoming a Snake How to Register

• The registration process is made easy through Rugby Au’s App “Rugby Xplorer.” The app is available in both iTunes and Google Play Stores.

• Registration must be made before taking the field in any capacity. • 2019 Rugby Au offer a “training only” option. This allows participants to try before they buy.

Participants CANNOT play with this registration. • Zip Pay is available through Rugby Xplorer to pay off fees over time.

2019 Registration fees are:• U4-5 Development Squad: $150,

includes; bag, shorts, socks and jersey• U6 & 7: $265, includes; bag, shorts,

socks, polo and training tee• U8-U17: $295, includes; bag, shorts,

Get Started ProgramCaboolture Rugby Union Club is proud to accept the Governments Get Started Vouchers to help children get active and participate in sport. Simply apply for your voucher through the government website. Once you have received your voucher, register through Rugby Xplorer and present your voucher in person or to [email protected]. Must include Bank BSB and Account details on the back where you would like your voucher refunded.

Snakes SkinIn 2019 Caboolture Rugby Union Club has partnered with Gilbert Rugby to provide comfortable stylish apparel so players and supporters look good on and off the field. Below are some examples of this year apparel. The club is also launching an online shop opening in March. Supporters and Members will be able to purchase training and playing kit, balls, headgear, shoulder pads, gym shorts and supporter gear.

Games and Grounds All Home games are played at Kevin Kaeser Oval, Petersen Road, Morayfield. U6-9 play on Saturday mornings while U10-17 play Sunday mornings. The Brisbane Junior Rugby Union will release draws closer to the competition start dates for the respective competitions. U6-9 will have Round 1 27th April, U10-17 begin their development rounds on Sunday March 31st.

Once released the full draw and all ground locations are available on the BJRU website. www.bjru.com.au.

Senior games are played Saturday afternoons, culminating in A Grade kicking off at 3:30pm.

Volunteers Caboolture Rugby Union Club is a volunteer run club. With out volunteers helping out week to week the club comes to a stop. We have positions available for all levels of volunteer. Simple things like holding tackle bags on training nights, setting up fields, helping in the canteen right through to managing and coaching.

The Club prides itself on it volunteer recognition. Every month a volunteer is nominated and voted by the committee as Volunteer of the Month. The recipients of this are then pooled together and voted on to be the Volunteer of the Year, which comes with a generous prize from the Caboolture Sports Club.

Coaching and volunteer up skill are high on our priorities. For coaches who are prepared to follow the development pathway the club will reimburse the cost of coaching courses approved by the club. Likewise there are opportunities for our volunteers to undertake courses such as Responsible service of alcohol (RSA) First Aid and CPR courses.

Our canteen is volunteer run and is a very profitable source of income to keep fees low for our playing members. To ensure the canteen is kept open through out the year the club needs your help. A roster will be posted on the website and social media to advise what teams are needed in the canteen week to week. The Canteen is also the social hub of Caboolture Rugby Union Club, many a story has been told here and we hope to see many more told. Don’t rush off after training and games, hang around, have a chat and enjoy a cold drink and the best chips in town.

Refereeing is another large area of the club we wish to build upon. With out referees there are no games. We encourage all players aged 13 and older to pursue the referee avenue. Learning to be a referee helps ones individual game, gives them more respect for referees and encourages personal development. Again the club is committed to helping referees ascend through the levels. Keep an eye out for referee courses coming up at the start of the season.

Snakes Development At Caboolture Rugby Union Club we offer numerous opportunities for player development. In 2019 we will launch our Snakes Development Squad. This will be led by our Development Officer Steve Kefu and will be made up of invited players to train on Wednesday afternoons before junior training. This is an opportunity for coaches to come in and observe and learn from our highest level coaches through out the club. Our Snakes Development Squad will be made up of players U10-17 and invitations will continue to be dispersed throughout the season.

The U12 Armidale Tour is an exciting and great experience for our U12 players. Recent years have seen an increase in players selected to play in representative teams. We look to continue this success rate through 2019. The Tour is run on the 12th, 13th and 14th of April, the middle week of the school holidays.

Also new in 2019 is our U11 Girls 7s Academy. Offering girls that aren’t quite old enough to play in the girls only competitions the opportunity to learn and experience the game of Rugby 7s in a social and fun environment. It is hoped the program will serve as a great nursery for girls Rugby Pathways through Caboolture Rugby and lead to many young ladies making representative sides and higher honours.

Club Hierarchy Club Committee The Club Committee is volunteer run committee. The committee is voted in at the AGM by the club members and represent the members and make decisions on how the club should be running. The Committee is made up of a Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Junior President, Senior President, Sports Club Representative, Junior Vice President and Senior Vice President. They meet the 2nd Monday of every Month.

Complaints Handling All complaints made to the club are taken seriously and acted upon in a timely manner to help resolve any issues. To ensure complaints or problems are handled correctly we ask all of our members to adhere to our complaints handling procedure.

Many issues that arise or questions asked can be handled at a local level and generally don’t need to be escalated past a team manager. The team manager is always the first point of call. If they deem it serious enough to proceed past them they will direct the issue to the Junior President/ Vice President. Again if the issue cannot be resolved at this level the President may take it to the Chairman. Only from this level will the Rugby Office get involved. All members are reminded that the office are employed to keep the Rugby Club running on track, complaint handling and day to day questions take time away from their schedules that can be better utilised elsewhere and many questions or issue can be answered/resolved through team managers and committee.

All communications to outside bodies/ associations are to be made through the Rugby Committee and the Secretary. No individual is to contact the BJRU/QRU/SCRU/ RugbyAu as a representative of Caboolture Rugby Union with out the consent of the Committee. Such correspondence leads to confusion for and between the body and the club. Everything goes through the committee so that we can assure the correct channels are being followed and the club can get the correct outcome for all involved.

All members are asked to remember, team managers, coaches and committee members are volunteers. Please exercise patience when issuing complaints or concerns. The matters will be attended to in a timely matter where possible and be resolved as quickly as is reasonable.

The Rugby Staff, Committee and Members all need to be on the same page, we are here for the kids. We are trying to give them the best Rugby experience they can have.

Snakes Socials In an age of internet and social media, it is an easy way for the club to pass on messages to our playing members as well as supporters. Find us on Facebook and Instagram under the handle @SnakesRugby. To ensure you keep seeing up to date information on social media, continue liking posts as they appear. This not only keeps @SnakesRugby in your news feed it allows it to appear in your friends feeds, potentially leading them to wish to join our club.

We love seeing photos on social media. Make sure you add the hashtag, #SnakesRugby so we can see them. As a member of Caboolture Rugby Union Club your child may appear from time to time on social media and the clubs official webpage. If you wish to not have your child published please contact the Rugby Office to arrange.

Mission Statement Caboolture Rugby Union Club’s mission is to compete, promote, administer, and develop the game of Rugby Union in the Caboolture and surrounding region.

Vision Statement Caboolture Rugby Union Club’s vision is to be widely recognised and respected as a club with a strong club spirit, high member retention and strong development pathways that exist from junior through to senior club level and to prepare its players, coaches and officials for higher level selection. Our club will be recognised for its strong planning and ongoing growth, including providing quality facilities that meet our current and foreseeable needs. Our club’s influence on our members will be acknowledged for our positive contribution to the development of people’s lives beyond the sporting field especially in the areas of moral development, self-respect and respect for others.

Objectives / Drivers Caboolture Rugby Union Club’s objectives are the key drivers for our success. In adhering to our mission and striving to fulfil our vision, we must collectively focus our activities and actions on achieving the following six objectives. For each objective outlined below, a detailed action plan is provided later in this document which identifies goals, tasks, owners, time frames, resources and targets.

Objective 1. Coach & Official Development – Recruit, develop, support, encourage and recognise appointed coaches and officials within our club

Objective 2. Player Development – Design, deliver and maintain a player development program that nurtures our players at all levels of competence and provides a structured pathway of development for those striving to advance to their next level of rugby.

Objective 3. Facilities & Equipment – Provide the appropriate facilities and equipment to meet the needs of our membership now and into the future.

Objective 4. Governance & Administration – Maintain a resilient management structure and administration processes that meet the current and developing needs of our club, while at all times having strong leadership, thorough on-going planning, honest and ethical practises, and having a realisation that the club’s success relies predominantly on maintaining a committed voluntary workforce.

Objective 5. Marketing & Communication – Maintain a strong marketing focus for our club, and maintain effective communication links both internally to our own members and externally to our various stakeholders. Maintain a strong commitment to community engagement in a variety of ways and especially to our neighbouring schools.

Objective 6. Financial – Create and deliver realistic operational and capital development budgets that meet the short and longer term needs of our club and its members. Maintain existing and find new stable sponsorship.

CLUB CODE OF CONDUCT These codes are designed for players, parents, spectators, administrators, managers, coaches and referees to:• make adults aware that young people play to satisfy themselves and not necessarily to satisfy

adults or members of their own peer group• maintain the element of enjoyment and satisfaction in Junior Rugby• improve the physical fitness of youth by making it attractive, safe and enjoyable for allyoung people• Constantly remind Administrators, Coaches, Referees, Parents, that Rugby must be

administered, taught and provided, for the good of those young people who wish to play the game. It is their game.

Player’s Code • Play for the ‘enjoyment’, not just to please your parents or coach• Play the laws of the game of Rugby• Never argue with the referee’s decisions. Let your captain ask any necessary questions• Control your temper - no ‘mouthing off’• Work equally hard for yourself and your team- your team’s performance will benefit and so will

your own.• Be a good sport. Applaud all good play, whether by your team or by your opponent• Treat all players, as you yourself would like to be treated. Don’t interfere with, bully or takeunfair advantage of any player• Remember that the goals of the game are to have fun, improve your skills and feel good.• Don’t be a show off or always try to get the most points• Co-operate with your coach, manager, team mates, referee and opponents, for without them

you don’t have a game• Do not approach a referee/touch judge at any stage during or immediately after a game.

Parent’s Code • Do not force an unwilling youngster to participate in Rugby• Remember, young people are involved in Rugby for their enjoyment, not yours• Encourage your child to always play by the laws• Teach young people that honest effort is as important as victory so the result of each game is

accepted without undue disappointment• Turn defeat into victory by helping young people work towards skill improvement and good

sportsmanship. Never ridicule or yell at your child for making a mistake or losing a game• Remember that young people learn best by example. Applaud good play by your team and by

members of the opposing team• Do not publicly question the referee’s judgement and never his/her honesty• Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from Junior/Senior Rugby• Recognise the value and importance of volunteer coaches, managers and referees. They give

of their time and resources to provide recreational activities for your children• Do not approach a referee/touch judge at any stage during or immediately after a game.

�Spectator’s Code • Remember that young people play organised sports for their own fun. They are not there to

entertain you and they are not miniature Wallabies• Be on your best behaviour. Don’t use offensive language, or harass players, coaches, referees

or other spectators• Applaud good play by your own team and the opposition team• Show respect for your team’s opponents. Without them there would be no games• Never ridicule or scold a player for making a mistake during the game• Condemn the use of violence in all forms• Respect the referee’s decisions.• Encourage players to play according to the laws.• SLEDGING: THIS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED in any shape or form. Players and Referees are

NOT fair game• Do not approach a referee/touch judge at any stage during or immediately after a game• Remember, the QRU, QSRU Management Committee and BJRU Competition Committee has

the power to cite Players, Coaches, and/or Spectators for behaviour that may bring the game of Rugby into disrepute.

Administrator/Club Official’s Code • Ensure that equal opportunities for participation in Rugby are made available to all irrespective

of ability• Do not allow the game to become primarily spectator entertainment• Equipment and facilities must be appropriate to the maturity level of the young players• Rules and length of schedules should take into consideration the age and maturity level of the

young players• Remember that play is done for its own sake. Do not emphasise the need for awards• Distribute the code of conduct to spectators, coaches, players, referees, parents and• teachers• Ensure that parents, coaches, sponsors, doctors and participants understand their authority

and their responsibility for fair play in Rugby• Ensure adequate supervision is maintained at all games• Behave in a manner to set an example for all participants.

Coaches Code • You have responsibility for the behaviour of your team and its supporters. EXERCISE IT• Be reasonable in your demands on the young player’s time, energy and enthusiasm.• Remember that they have other interests and demands on their time• Teach your players that laws of the game are mutual agreements, which no one should evade

or break• Ensure that all players get a game. The ‘just average’ players need and deserve equal time• Remember that young people play for fun and enjoyment and that winning is only part of it.

Never ridicule or yell at the players for making mistakes or losing a game• The scheduling and length of practice times and games should take into consideration the

maturity level of the players• Develop team respect for the ability of opponents, as well as, the judgement of referees and

opposing coaches• Follow the advice of a doctor in determining when an injured player is ready to play again• Remember that young people need a coach they can respect. Be generous with your• praise when it is deserved and set a good example

�• Make a personal commitment to keep yourself informed on sound coaching principles and the

principles of growth and development of young people• Encourage young people to develop basic skills and avoid over-specialisation in positional play

during their formative years• Create opportunities to teach sportsmanship, just as you would in teaching the basic skills• Ensure that efforts for both skill improvement and good sportsmanship are rewarded by• praise• Ensure that skill learning and free play activities have priority over highly structured

competitions for very young people• INSIST ON FAIRPLAY, do not tolerate foul play, fighting, or foul language. Be prepared to take

off an offending player• Discourage excessive talk on the pitch• INSIST on a disciplined approach by players and mean what you say• Set a good example by personal good behaviour• Do not approach a referee/touch judge at any stage during or immediately after a game

Manager’s Code • Encourage parents to take an active interest in the Team• Encourage parents and supporters to talk to opposition spectators• Encourage supporters to praise good play by both teams• Discourage supporters from excessive barracking• Provide administrative assistance to the Coach including full knowledge of the Competition

Rules and paperwork recommendations• Be fully informed of Rugby recommendations and matters affecting your team• Look after injured players while they are not able to take the field• Ensure that players are aware of representative trials and if selected, they are fully aware of

their commitments and that they know of their selection• Insist on an appropriate standard of team behaviour both on and off the field• Set an example in terms of behaviour• Do not approach a referee/touch judge at any stage during or immediately after a game.

Referee’s Code • Ensure that “over-refereeing” the game does not lose the ‘spirit of the game’ for young people• Actions speak louder than words. Ensure that both on and off the field your behaviour is

consistent with the principles of good sportsmanship• Compliment both teams on their good play whenever such praise is deserved• Be consistent, objective and courteous• Condemn the deliberate ‘good foul’ as being unsportsmanlike, thus retaining respect for fair

play• Publicly encourage law changes, which will reinforce the principles of participation for fun and

enjoyment• Make a personal commitment to keep yourself informed on sound refereeing principles and the

principles of growth and development of young people
