Safety Notes

PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND ENTIRE MANUAL BEFORE PROCEEDING!

1) Wear long pants.

2) Wear heavy leather boots or shoes.

1) Gas cap: Refer to engine manual for fuel specification. Cap is also fuel gauge.2) Amp gauge: Indicates output of alternator.3) Blade safety switch: This switch stops engine automatically when water pressure

drops below 4 PSI. Must be in "off' position to start engine.4) Tachometer: Digital readout continuously registers the RPM of the engine.5) Water Pump Switch: (optional) Activates the water pump6) Ignition: Turn right to start engine, and left to stop engine.7) Engagement lever: This lever drives hydrostatic transmission. Push lever forward

and down to engage transmission. Push forward and pull up to disengage.8) Light Switch: (optional) Activates the optional night sawing spot light.9) Depth indicator: Lower blade until is just touching ground, then rotate knob to 0.10) Choke lever: Pull out to start cold engine. Push in after engine is started.11) Throttle: Pull handle out to reach desired engine RPM, then, to lock, twist handle.12) Speed control: Pull back to move saw in reverse and push forward to move saw

forward.13) Water valve: Handle in line with hose is "open" position. Opening valve will allow

water flow to blade.14) Securing L-bolt: Loosen bolts to adjust length of handles. Be sure to tighten bolts

before operating saw.15) Depth stop knob: Adjust to control sawing depth.16) Blind Cover: plastic plug used to prevent contamination.17) Raise/Lower: Rotate lever clockwise to raise, counter-clockwise to lower blade.

Operating Sequence

NOTE: This step by step procedure is only an outline.Refer to the page(s) indicated for complete instructions.

Blade Mounting Instructions

NOTE: Before mounting the blade, clean the blade collars and stub shaft.

BLADE MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Remove Blade guard - loosen retaining screw on side of the blade guard to lift bladeguard from saw.

2) Remove arbor nut (A). If blade is mounted on right side saw, the nut has left handthreads (to remove turn clockwise). If the blade is mounted on left side of saw, nuthas right hand threads (to remove turn counter-clockwise).

4) Pull off outside collar (B) Install new blade (C). If blade pin (D) is removed, it must bereinserted in outside collar to go through blade and inside collar (E).

WARNING: Observe rotation arrow on blade and do not exceed maximum RPMstamped on blade.To set proper RPM consult the table on page 26.

5) Reinstall outside collar, stub shaft and secure with bolt.

6) Reinstall blade guard and secure retaining screw.

NOTE: To meet ANSI safety standards, larger diameter blade collars are requiredfor large diameter blades. Information is available upon request.

Blade Mounting Instructions (cont.)

NOTE: Organic bonded blades (A) must be blottered. The blotter (B) mustextend past the blade collar contact area as shown.

MULTIPLE MOUNTED BLADES:

Multiple mounted blades must be separated by a machined spacer. The diameter of thespacer cannot be less than the diameter of the relieved blade collars. The blade pinmust pass through all blades and spacers, and seat itself in the inside blade collar.

Starting Engine

NOTE: Read-the engine instruction manual before starting.

WARNING: Be sure blade is unobstructed and not resting on ground.

WARNING: Be sure hands and feet are clear of blade.

These starting instructions pertain to the 35 HP saw.

1) Check engine oil. Add oil if low.

2) Check fuel level. Add fuel if low.

3) Check cooling air intake areas and external surfaces of engine.Make sure surfaces are clean and unobstructed.

4) Check that air cleaner components and all shrouds, equipment covers, and guardsare in place and securely fastened.

STARTING INSTRUCTIONS (35 H.P. Wisconsin Engine):

1) Open fuel shut-off valve.

2) Place speedl control lever in neutral.

3) Disengage engagement lever (see page 16).

4) Pull throttle handle out half-way and turn to lock in place.

5) Close choke by pulling choke button to extreme out position.

6) Start engine rotating starter switch to the right.

NOTE: DO NOT crank engine for more than 30 seconds at a time. If engine failsto start, wait about 2 minutes between cranking periods to prevent starterfrom over-heating.

7) After engine starts, push choke button in as required for smooth running.

Starting the Engine (cont.)

NOTE: Allow engine to warm up a few minutes before applying load. DO NOTrace or gun engine to hurry warm-up.

8) When engine is warm, pull throttle out to maximum and lock in position.

9) To stop engine, rotate ignition switch to "off' position.

NOTE: If the engine has been running hard and is hot, do not shut engine offabruptly. Cool engine by removing load and allowing engine to run idle for 3 to 5minutes.

Saw Guide Alignment and Adjustment

WARNING: This operation is performed with the engine “off”!

1) Snap a 20 ft. chalk line.

2) Disengage drive mechanism.

3) Manually push the saw with the blade directly over the line for approximately 10 - 15feet.

4) Adjust the front guide pointer (A) over the chalk line by loosening L-bolt (B).

5) Adjust rear guide (C) by loosening jam nut and screwing guide in or out.

6) Secure hardware.

Rear Axle Adjustment (right side cuffing)1) Place the saw on the chalk line with blade and guide pointer directly over the line.

2) Start engine, per instructions, and allow saw to travel forward without assistance.

3) After 12 to 15 feet, the saw should be 12 inches to the left of the chalk line as viewedfrom the rear of the saw.

4) If alignment is incorrect, adjust axle as follows:a) Loosen (2) bolts (A), but do not remove.b) Turn adjustment bolt (B) counter-clockwise to make the saw pull to the left.c) Retighten and recheck.

* The actual desired distance will vary with cutting depth and material being cut.

NOTE: For left side cutting, adjust saw to pull to right.

Speed Control-Lever Use and Adjustment

The speed control lever (A) has two functions. First it moves the saw forward bypushing the lever forward and moves the saw in reverse by pulling the lever toward theoperator. The further you push this lever the faster the saw travels.

WARNING: Before starting the engine, place this lever in neutral.

The second function is to raise or lower the blade. This is done by rotating the leverclockwise to raise the blade or counter-clockwise to lower the blade. When the lever istwisted it activates either the raise or lower switch. The sensitivity of these switches canbe adjusted by performing the following procedure:

1) Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2) Remove panel (B)

3) Disconnect linkage rod end (C) from lever assembly (D).

4) Disconnect wires (E) from solenoid, cartridge and battery.

5)' Remove bolt (F).

6) Remove handle assembly by lifting it through the top access opening.

7) Remove switch mount (G).

8) Remove wires (H) from back of switches.

9) Remove rubber boots (I).

10) Loosen jam nuts(J).

11) Screw switch (K) in or out until desired free play is achieved. We recommend 5/32" asshown.

12) Make sure spring plunger (L) has not worked loose. This holds the "T" handle in theneutral position. If it is loose, deform threads and reinstall with locktite. Screw itagainst cam until there is no slop.

Engaging the Drive Unit

This saw is driven by a hydrostatic transmission. The drive unit is hinged for easydisengagement, for free wheeling. To engage transmission, push the engagement leverforward, push down through the opening until the spring pulls the lever back and locks itinto position.

NOTE: DO NOT engage unit unless directional control lever is in neutral.

To disengage transmission, push the lever forward, pull it up through the opening untilthe spring pulls it back and locks it into position as it is shown in diagram below.

Water Hook-up

Prior to starting the engine you should hook-up the water hose and visually inspect tomake sure that water is flowing to the blade. Hook-up your hose to coupling (A) and turnon your water source. Then open the water valve (B). The valve is open if the handle islined up with the hose and is closed if it is not as shown in the diagram.

NOTE: Water flow volume can be metered by opening the water valve partially.

Next, lift the front of the blade guard and visually inspect to make sure water is flowingout of each of the tubes. If either of the holes is blocked flush impurities from the tube.

Blade Safety Switch

A pressure detecting switch (A) stops the engine automatically when water pressuredrops below 4 PSI. The safety switch protects the blade should the water supplybecome interrupted or inadequate. Restore water pressure and the switch automaticallyresets. To start the engine, the blade safety switch (B) must be in the "off" position,unless there is adequate water pressure. Leave in "off' position for dry cutting withabrasive blades.

Flow Control and Relief Valve Setting

The flow control is used to regulate the rate of descent into the cut. To adjust:

1) Raise the saw by twisting the speed control handle.

2) Lower the saw and observe the rate of descent.

3) To increase the rate, turn knurled knob (A) counter-clockwise until the desired rate isachieved.

4) To decrease the rate, turn the knob clockwise.

WARNING! Excessive descent rates can damage diamond or abrasive blades andlead to possible bodily harm.

The DC power unit relief valve is factory set at 1500 - 2000 PSI. If the saw is difficult toraise, it can be adjusted to a higher PSI. To do so:

1) Remove cap (A) only.

2) Turn screw (B) clockwise 1/4 turn retest. Repeat process if necessary.

Speed Control Adjustment

The 35 H.P. saw is equipped with a friction speed control. It is designed to remain inplace in any position. If the unit will not remain in place, adjust as follows:

1) Remove the rear guard plate.2) Loosen jam nut (B).3) Turn the adjustment bolt (A) clockwise until the desired friction is achieved.4) Retighten jam nut and replace the guard plate.

Depth Indicator and Depth Stop

The saw is equipped with a Depth Indicator and a Depth Stop. The Depth Indicator (A)tells you approximately how deep you are in the cut. To set the indicator you need tofirst lower the blade until it is just touching the ground and then rotate the knob to 0.

The Depth Stop (B) is used for several cuts at same depth. It is set by finding thedesired depth and then turning the knob until it is tight. This will prevent cutting belowthe “locked” level to provide a consistent depth with every cut.

Maintenance

Engine: The operation and life of the engine depends on you and your operator. Do notstart engine until engine pre-check is complete. The engine pre-check consists ofchecking the oil, fuel level, air filter and greasing wheel, axle, drive unit, and arborbearings. Basic engine maintenance is shown in Table I on page 24. For more detailedinformation please refer to the Engine Operator Maintenance Manual and Warrantyprovided with saw.

NOTE: When breaking in a new saw, we recommend running the engine for one hourwith no load prior to actual use on the job.

Air cleaner: Due to the dusty conditions created by sawing, it is essential to check theengine air cleaner element daily. Remove element and shake out the accumulated dustand dirt. Wipe out dirt from inside cover and from housing. Check engine manual forwashing instructions. Stocking replacement filters is strongly recommend.

Arbor, Axle, Drive unit and Wheel bearings: Bearings should be greased according tothe maintenance schedule on page 24 of this manual.

Belt Tension Settings: Every 20 hours of operation, inspect belt tension, see diagram ontop of page 23. When tightening is required:

1) Remove belt guard

2) Loosen securing bolts (A) and (B) and jam nuts (C).

3) Turn the belt tensioner bolt (D) clockwise until proper tension is achieved.

4) While belt guard is removed, check belt for wear, cracks, and other abnormalities.

5) Make sure distance (X) is within 1/8" of distance (Y). 6) Secure jam nut and tightensecuring bolts. 7) Replace belt guard and tighten bolts.

WARNING: Do not inspect when engine is running.

NOTE: BELT DEFLECTION FORMULA:

1/64 " deflection per 1" measured from center of engine shaft, to center of arbor shaft.

Chain Adjustment: Every 20 hours of operation inspect the chain tension, see diagram

below. When tightening is required:

1) Remove the rear guard.2) Loosen (3) securing bolts (A).3) Loosen jam nut (B).4) Turn set screw (C) clockwise until the desired tension is achieved.6) Tighten jam nut.

NOTE: The chain should be periodically inspected and lubricated. Manually apply achain lubricant when necessary.

Use of high quality detergent oil of API (American Petroleum Institute) service class SF orSG.Select the viscosity based on the air temperature at the time of operation. For temperaturesbelow 0° F, 5W-20 or 5W-30 oil is recommended. For temperatures above 0° F, 1OW-30 or1OW-40 oil is recommended. Check your engine manual for other recommendations.

Hydrostatic Drive Unit: The fluid shipped in yourhydrostatic transmission is a fluid having a viscosityequivalent to SAE 20W20. Mobil fluid 300 or any otheroil equivalent to SAE 20W20 is preferred by EatonTransmission. The expansion tank (A) is marked forproper fluid level. It should be checked when unit iscold. Do not allow the unit to run low on oil. If the unit islow you can add oil by removing cap (B).

Hydraulic Power Unit: The fluid shipped in your power unit is Conoco MV 32 (multi-viscosity ISO 32 grade hydraulic oil). Overfilling the unit will cause it to spill when thesaw is in the full upright position. It can be refilled by removing cap (A).

Adjusting Blade RPM

WARNING: When you change the blade size on your saw, it is important to check theblade for the recommended blade RPM which is stamped on the blade.The RPM’s should be adjusted according to Table below:

NOTE: This chart is for reference only. Always check the RPM stamped on the bladeand adjust sheave sizes and engine RPM to required settings. Consult the localdistributor for assistance if necessary.
