TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) WORK IS THE WINNER A great example of students working together as a team is the UPS Productions….Never Down cast and crew. Together, they have managed to research the film, write the script, act in, crew and edit the 30 minutes of footage down to 5 minutes. This is no mean feat. I’m sure Steven Spielberg would have been impressed by the skill, patience and creativity shown by students in 5/6AM. Even Spielberg was older than all of them when he produced his first film at the age of 13. The film, “Ned Kelly”, will premiere at the Big River Public Schools Film festival, which is currently in it’s seventh year. Ulmarra has been involved since its inception and indeed, our films were screened before this festival began, at the Golden Dolphin Awards in Coffs Harbour. As these awards no longer exist, The Big River Public Schools Festival is now the longest running student film festival on the North Coast. The UPS Productions….Never Down animation, “The Giant Eel” was awarded “Best Primary School Film” at the recent Clarence Valley Regional Film Festival at the Saraton Theatre. This is the third time our films have been recognised with two previous short listings in the prestigious ATOM awards. Well done to all our innovative and hard working production team. Their diligence really does pay dividends! Regards,
Sandra Armstrong Principal LAKE AINSWORTH HERE WE COME! Next Wednesday, students in Mr. Reardon’s class will travel to Lake Ainsworth for three days of fun and adventure in the great outdoors. Thank you to Mr. Reardon and Mrs. McSwan for all their work in organising this excursion. We look forward to hearing all the stories when children return happily exhausted on the Friday. Please ensure that all excursion costs are paid prior to your child attending this camp.
SCHOOL SATISFACTION SURVEY Thank you to those families who returned paper surveys, completed the Survey Monkey or participated in telephone interviews. All the information gathered will be used to inform whole school planning and school evaluations analysis. Feedback has been extremely positive and constructive. Results will be published in the Annual School Report. IF IT’S VALUABLE, DON’T BRING IT TO SCHOOL! Just a reminder that iPods, iPads, mobile phones, hand held computer games, jewelry etc are not to be brought to school. Loss or breakage will only cause distress. These valuable items are best left at home. Many thanks for your support in this area. INDIGENOUS ART EXHIBITION GRAFTON REGIONAL ART GALLERY Both the student and the adult Indigenous Art Exhibitions are exceptional. Don’t miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in colour and culture. You will not be disappointed. GOT YOUR VERBS AND YOUR ADJECTIVES IN A KNOT? If grammar is not your strength, help is at hand! Just log on to www.schoolatoz.nsw.edu.au and click on the Homework & Study tab then English A-Z. This site has lots of helpful hints and is highly recommended to all families. Children may also find it helpful when completing homework tasks. P&C FUNDRAISER The P&C will hold a cake stall at the school to coincide with the Bi Election to be held on the 19th November. The cake stall is always a popular one and does raise a good sum of money. The P&C depends on the donation of home baked cakes, biscuits and slices so please send your goodies along to the school on the Friday before, or early on the Saturday morning. Helpers are desperately needed to operate the stall so if you can give an hour or two on the day please contact Carmel Small or Catherine Ensbey via the school as soon as possible.

Ned Kelly Film Shoot
UPS Productions…..Never Down is now in the post production phase of this year’s short film, “Ned Kelly”. Students in 5/6AM researched Ned’s life, wrote the script, performed all cast and crew roles and are currently editing the film. The film will screen at this year’s Big River Public Schools Film Festival on Wednesday, 23rd November in the South Grafton High School Hall at 6pm. The Big River Public Schools Film Festival is the longest running student film festival on the North Coast. Come along and cheer our young film makers on. You will be amazed!
Kindergarten Orientation
Congratulations to all our Kindergarten 2012 children. They all settled into the Orientation Program with ease. As you can see they were well cared for by their year 5 buddies, who will continue to ensure that Kindergarten life is stress free for them next year. Thank you to Mrs. Campbell and Ms. Cowan for all the exciting activities they provided for our newest recruits.
