On behalf of UNDP and the UN Secretary-General, I led the execution of the Forests action area of the Secretary-General's 2014 Climate Summit; Coordinated a global multisectoral coalition of developing and developed countries, governors, companies, indigenous peoples and civil society organizations resulting in major announcements for the Summit on reducing deforestation and increasing forest restoration, including the New York Declaration on Forests. Managed UNDP’s work on Forests and Climate, as well as REDD+, including with responsibility for ensuring the engagement and participation of indigenous peoples and civil society at local, national and international levels (2007-2014)

Founded in 2013, Community-based REDD+ (CBR+), a partnership between UN-REDD and the GEF Small Grants Program (SGP) to deliver grants to the local level, to empower communities and indigenous peoples to engage in REDD+ readiness activities, and develop experiences and lessons to feed into national REDD+ processes

Oversaw the development of UN-REDD’s and UNDP’s corporate framework on safeguards and an accountability system including compliance and grievance / recourse mechanisms. The New York Declaration on Forests and Climate: a non-legally binding declaration in support of the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Summit and the Paris UNFCCC COP where 180 governments, the world’s biggest companies, and influential civil society and indigenous organizations endorsed a global timeline to cut natural forest loss in half by 2020, and end it by 2030, and restore forests and croplands in an area larger than India. Equator Initiative: Founded, in Dec 2001, the Equator Initiative (www.equatorinitiative.org), a major multi-institution partnership to support local communities conserve biodiversity and reduce poverty, and have managed or overseen its operations until the present.

Footprint Neutral Program/ MDG Carbon Facility: Responsible for conceiving the concept, building the team, raising the funds and development of the business and technical aspects of the program.

Poverty-Environment Partnership (PEP) ‘Environment for the MDGs’ Publications and Events for the 2005 World Summit: Through my keynote address to the PEP meeting in Berlin in Nov 2004, I called for a PEP-wide effort to advocate ‘environment for the MDGs’ before and during the 2005 World Summit, mobilized member PEP institutions to join in and then I personally managed the work of these agencies to prepare the economic case for the importance of sound

environmental management in the MDGs, created high-impact ‘commitments’ among major institutions and organized a High Level Policy Dialogue and Head of State Dinner to announce the analytical results and the commitments.

Climate Change Futures: Health, Ecological and Economic Dimensions: Co-created and co-managed with Swiss Re and Harvard Medical School this three-year, high visibility initiative to engage major private sector actors in global efforts to address risks of climate change and environmental degradation to society through reports, symposia and major public events.

‘Biodiversity After Johannesburg: The Central Role of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in Achieving the MDGs’: Personally created and managed this joint UNDP-UNEP-CBD post-WSSD partnership to analyze, educate, advocate and disseminate understanding about links between biodiversity and the MDGs through two major conferences in London and various publications.

Millennium Ecosystem Assessment: Supported the launch of the MA in 2001 with the first presentations to intergovernmental bodies to gain support for the MA (to the CBD SBSTTA and the Ecosystem Conservation Group) and participated on the MA Advisory Board from 2002-2005
