Phoenix crews battle a humungous fire heading towards several houses. Thousands of residents nearby were notified of the oncoming fire. Three hundred houses have been destroyed. The fire has turned the ground black for 7,500 acres. At the moment the fire is only 5% contained. Winds kept firefighters moving to put out the smaller fires before they got out of control. Three thousand homeowners have been evacuated as a precaution. An emergency shelter was made by Red Cross to help the evacuated people.

The Lovely Bones

By Kylie Leathers

Susie Salmon was 14 years old when she was murdered in the December of 1973. Although death is inevitable, we all try to avoid it. This book relives the life, and death, of a family who couldn’t. The Lovely Bones, written by Alice Sebold, tells the story of Susie, how her family grieves for her, how her murderer cleans up his tracks, how Susie herself watches all this, unable to do anything, and help no one. Sebold writes with shocking honesty about the aftermath of the death of a loved one, telling the story of a murder victim with justice and honor. The Lovely Bones is a definite read, changing your perspective of life and how it should be lived.

By Phillip Koerner May 19, 1943: Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt plan D-Day. May 20, 1873: Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis receive patent for blue jeans.
