CourseOverview:
WelcometoIntroductiontoBroadcastVideoProduction.ThisonecreditcourseintheBroadcastVideoProductionPathwayisdesignedtogiveyouanoverviewoftheartandscienceoftelevisionandvideo
production.Thecoursewillrangeincoveragefromthehistoryofmassmediatobasicshootingand
editingtechniques.Therewillbeagoodamountofwrittenworkinthiscourseasitisnecessaryto
haveafirmgrasponthefundamentalsofproductionbeforemovingontomorecomplextopics.That
beingsaid,aslongasstudentsdemonstratematurityandresponsibility,wewilldoalotofhandson
learninginthisclass.Ihopeyouenjoythesemester!
Procedures&
Discipline:
Thecourseproceduresarelistedontheposterinfrontoftheroom,ontheblog,andonthissyllabus.
ThatmeansthateachstudentisawareofhowIrunmyclass,andtheexpectationsIhaveforeach
studentandmyself.Thefollowingproceduresarenecessarytoaneffectivelearningenvironment,and
arethepersonalitytraitsthatmustbeexhibitedbysuccessfulemployees.
I. Treatyourpeers,teachers,andyourselfwithrespect.II. Actprofessionallyatalltimes.(Thisincludes,butisnotlimitedto,dressandlanguage.)III. Disposeofallfood,candy,gum,ordrinksbeforeenteringtheclassroom.NOexceptions.IV. FollowallrulesasoutlinedintheNorthCobbStudentHandbook.V. Askthreethenme.
Failuretofollowtheguidelinesthathavebeenestablishedforthisprogramwillresultindisciplinary
action.Thefirstoffensewillbeaverbalwarning.Thesecondoffensewillbeaparentcontact.The
thirdoffensewillresultinanadministrativereferral.
*ElectronicsPolicy:Cellphonesarenotpermittedinclassatall.Astudentcanbegivenan
administrativereferralthefirsttimethattheytakeouttheirphoneinclass,foranyreason.Music
players(notcellphones)canbeusedonlywithteacherapproval.Unauthorizedwebaccessfroma
schoolorpersonalcomputerwillresultinanimmediatereferralandrevocationofcomputer
privileges.
Pleaseunderstandthatitisaprivilege,notyourright,touseourvideoproductionequipment.That
privilegecanberevokedwhendeemednecessarybytheinstructor.

BVP1 NorthCobbHighSchool Fall2011Grading: YoucankeepupwithyourgradeintheclassbyaccessingPinnacle.ThegradesforBVP1willbe
brokendownintothefollowingcategories,withdifferentweightsbeingassignedtoeachcategory.
IndividualProjects: 25% Youwillhavevariousindividualprojectsthatmustbecompletedduringyourtimeinthiscourse.Theseprojectwilldemonstrateyourmasteryof
thetopicsandskillslearnedthroughoutthesemester.
GroupProjects: 25% AsthisisaCareerTechnologyclass,thesearetheprimaryfocusesofthe
class.Inthetelevisionindustryyouworkingroups,inhere,youdothesame.
Tests&Quizzes: 20% Tobesurethatyouarelearningthematerialnecessarytobesuccessfulinthisprogram,youwillbetestedandquizzed.
Employability: 10% Thiswillbedeterminedbyanobservationofstudentworkethic,attitude,andprofessionalism.Thinkjobreference.
FinalProject&Exam: 20% Yourfinalwillconsistoftwoparts:awrittenfinalcoveringthetopicsandtermsdiscussedduringclassandafinalproject.Moreinformationabout
thefinalprojectwillbegivenoutonemonthbeforethelastdayofclass.
Supplies: Eachstudentisrequiredtosupplytheirownportablememorydevice(flashdriveorharddrive)for
storingindividualprojects.Itishighlyrecommendedthatyoupurchaseaunitwithatleast8GBof
storage,asvideoprojectsareverylargefiles.DVDscanbepurchasedfromTheSpearfor$1.00each.
ModelRelease&
Student/ParetAgreement:
Attachedtothissyllabusyouwillfindatwosideddocument.Themodelreleaseallows
yourstudenttoparticipateinvideoproductionactivitiesbothonandoffcamera.Italso
allowstheprogramtouseyourimage,likeness,orvoiceforanypurpose.Itreallyjust
givesmepermissiontoputyourvideosonSchoolTube.
Theothersideofthedocumentistheyoubreakit,youbuyitagreement.Basically,if
youarenegligentinyouruseoftheequipmentanditbreaks,youareresponsibleforthe
replacementcostofthebrokenequipment.Youcannotparticipateinbroadcastvideo
productionprojectsandWILLNOTPASStheclasswithouthavingbothsidesofthisdocumentsignedandreturnedbythefirstFridayofthesemester.
