Dear Graden Families, First Things First, as winter blows away our sunny and warm fall days, please remember to bundle up your little hornets with coats, hats, gloves, and scarves as needed to help them stay happy and healthy with their outdoor recesses. Also note, school starts each day at 8:40 am, if your child arrives after 8:40 am, you will need to come into the office and sign your child in for the day. A final reminder, ANY transportation changes need to be communicated prior to 2 pm each day. We appreciate you being proactive so that we can keep all our hornets safe. In regard to the car line, please have your child ready to exit the car in the morning quickly as to keep the line moving. Dear Graden Families,

First Things First, as winter blows away our

sunny and warm fall days, please remember

to bundle up your little hornets with coats,

hats, gloves, and scarves as needed to help

them stay happy and healthy with their

outdoor recesses. Also note, school starts

each day at 8:40 am, if your child arrives after

8:40 am, you will need to come into the office

and sign your child in for the day. A final

reminder, ANY transportation changes need to

be communicated prior to 2 pm each day. We

appreciate you being proactive so that we can

keep all our hornets safe.

In regard to the car line, please have your

child ready to exit the car in the morning

quickly as to keep the line moving. In the

afternoon, we ask that you stay in your car,

form 2 lines, and follow the procedures

outlined by our staff.

Hornet Pride and gratitude is everywhere, our

Graden community with the leadership of

Student Lighthouse collected over 20 boxes of

food for the St. Therese Food Pantry, our 5th

grade Choir performed at Christmas on the

River, Friday, December 6, to help kick off the

holiday season in Parkville. Our 3rd, 4th and

5th grade Girls on the Run Club participated in

a 5K at Swope Park on a chilly Saturday

morning in November. We concluded the

month with Leadership Assemblies for K-2 and

3-5, as always, facilitated by our students. It

certainly has been a very busy month at 9 and

45. Thanks to these motivated ladies and

gentlemen for Sharpening Their Saw and

Leading by Example throughout Parkville and

the Kansas City area. It is wonderful to see

our students participating in these service

projects and leadership roles, their poise,

dedication and leadership is truly amazing!

As the first semester of the 2019-2020

academic year comes to a close, we want to

thank you for your commitment and support.

In every part of your child’s experience, we

appreciate and depend upon your help. We

are particularly fortunate at Graden that the

school/home partnership is so very strong.

Remember to celebrate successes and to take

the time to set realistic goals for improvement.

The Leader in Me continues to be a fully

integrated at Graden Elementary. This year

the students have 4 areas of concentration,

service projects, VIP Assemblies, school spirt

days and solving concerns within Graden. The

Staff Lighthouse Team also meets monthly,

they integrate our district and building goals

into our daily work, serve on Action Teams,

and work to further enhance the opportunities

at Graden.

December 20 marks the end of second

quarter. Can you believe our hornets will have

been in school 85 days? The staff is carefully

using our assessment data to more skillfully

identify individual student strengths and

opportunities for improvement in specific

subject areas. We are looking for ways to

both support and challenge students in their

learning. Personal goal setting is an excellent

way to do this. By knowing precisely what you

want to achieve, you know what you have to

concentrate on to do it. Ask your child about

their classroom and individual goals they have

set for second semester.

We would like to invite you to join the

Graden students and staff for our second

quarter leadership assembly from 9:15 am

to 10:15 am on Friday, December 20, in the

gym. After the all-school assembly, the

winter parties will take place in each

classroom from 10:30 – 11:15 am. School

will dismiss on December 20 at 11:45 am.

As you think about the holidays and perhaps

look forward to a bit more family time,

remember to seize the many opportunities

to spend quality time with your children. It

makes a difference! Create wonderful

memories! Thank you one and all for your

support, your care, and your involvement.

May the season and the holidays bring you

cheer and renewal. See you next year –

that is on January 6, 2020! Remember too,

school starts each day at 8:25 am with the

tardy bell at 8:40 am.

Take good care, be safe, and enjoy!

With hornet pride and appreciation,

Dr. LuAnn Halverstadt, Principal

Reinforcing personal development and leadership; that is what Graden’s

Spotting Great Leaders Club is all about. The Spotting Great Leaders

program is replacing the High Five Program, which was introduced in

December 2012 to recognize personal development and leadership.

Students who are selected each month will receive a certificate which they can redeem at

the 63rd Street Sonic location in Parkville, Missouri. A polka dot with the child’s name will

be displayed on the wall inside Graden Elementary for the month they are awarded. At

the end of each month, the polka dots are taken down and replaced with a new polka dot

honoring students for the next month.

Congratulations! We are so proud of our Graden Leaders!

All students in physical education class will be focusing on movement and

muscles. Students will be learning the muscles in their body and they will

be learning how the specific muscles are being used and how to

strengthen those muscles through physical activity.

Grades 3rd-5th will be starting sports skills and will be working on a variety

of sports specific lead up games while following the rules and cooperating

with others.

Just a reminder that it is extremely important that students come dressed

appropriately for physical activity. Tennis shoes with laces and appropriate

gym clothes are required for participation and for safety.
