DESCRIPTION

(Document also available at http://pasodelnortegroup.org/news/item/200-update-the-borderplex-bi-national-economic-alliance) The Paso del Norte Group used to get its members by inviting people to join and charging them a little less than $2K for annual dues. By- private-invitation-only was undemocratic enough for a group which so strongly influenced local economic development, through City Hall and other public venues. Now, the PDN has merged with Bob Cook's REDCO and both organizations have dissolved, to reappear as the "Borderplex Alliance." This new group is slated to play an even bigger, and more official, role in economic development in and around El Paso. The founding leaders of Borderplex Alliance are exactly the same as before, and include Paul Foster, Alejandra de la Vega, Woody Hunt, Bill Sanders. But now, with the new group, there's an even worse arrangement: pay to play in the big leagues. Give Borderplex Alliance $100K to $250K, and you buy your way into the Executive Committee and into chairmanships of various Borderplex committees. With these wads of money you even obtain memberships to the group for your friends. For details, see slides 25 to 30 of this PowerPoint.
