About Blas Blas na hEireann, The Irish Food Awards is the biggest competition for quality Irish produce on the island of Ireland. This year over 2,500 Irish products were entered into the competition to win Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards in over 100 food and drink categories as well as key awards such as Supreme Champion and Best Artisan Producer.

A trusted accreditation and mark of Irish quality Research has shown that the Blas accreditation has the highest recognition amongst Irish consumers and using the award logo on packs encourages shoppers to buy these products. It is their guarantee of a top quality Irish product.

Our JudgesOur judges come from a range of food backgrounds; they are chefs, restaurateurs, academics, journalists, authors, food champions, caterers and enthusiastic home cooks. Retailers with a vested interest or producers who have entered the competition are never involved in the judging process.

Finding the very bestDeveloped with UCC and the University of Copenhagen our judging process is now recognised as an industry ‘gold’ standard worldwide. Products entered are blind tasted and competition is extremely tough, and regardless of the number of entries there are only five finalists places in each category.Blind tasting means that all packaging and identifying features are removed from products before being presented for judging. This creates a level playing field for products from both large and small producers.

This year Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney TD was presented with the prestigious Blas Na hEireann Producers Champion Award 2015. This award follows a survey conducted by Blas na hEireann, of over 2,000 Irish food and drink producers asking them who in their opinion had done the most to promote Irish produce at home and abroad in the past year. Over 60% of respondents cited Minister Coveney. The Minister joins Blas Producers’ Champion team, alongside Neven Maguire, who was awarded this accolade in 2014.

“I am delighted with this Award. But the real credit must go to the dedicated, talented producers who are making a real impact on the national and international stage. I wish them all the very best of luck.”
