TEAM VALLEY INDUSTRIAL EVOLUTION IS cOMING…UK Land Estates, the region’s premier industrial and warehouse developer, has unveiled ambitious plans for a £30m scheme on Kingsway, Team Valley Trading Estate, Gateshead, which is capable of accommodating some 1,000 jobs.John seager, director at uklE, heralds the marketing launch as a ‘landmark in the development of industrial property in the north East’.

“The industrial element of the scheme proposed as part of the 10-acre mixed-use development, will deliver the most advanced buildings of their type seen in the region, most appropriate as the site was once the home of a leading engineering company, Huwood. That was the past, today we have a clear vision of the future – this is industrial evolution,” says Mr. Seager.

Included within the master-plan are three buildings–theflagshipNo1TeamValleyupto80,000sqftincludingofficesandNos1and2Kingswayboth30,000sqftincludinghighspecificationtwo-storeyofficesdesigned to offer an unparalleled sense of arrival. Designed by Teesside’s architects, ListerAssociates, theyfulfilthebrieftoradically re-think the industrial buildings.

Mark Proudlock, Partner, industrial agency, Knight Frank, says: “The prominent location, excellentconnectivity, andthequalityofbuilding design, will ensure this becomes one of the premier addresses in the region.”

Keith Stewart, Director at joint marketing agency Naylors, added “The occupier could well come from the offshore, wind and gas, technology and IT sectors as well as manufacturing and engineering end-users seeking a style of operational buildingthatreflectsasignificantcorporate image with a style, elegance andfinishthatsetsthemapart.”

Available on a pre-let basis, occupiers have the opportunity to plan their own space within the footprint which combines officeswithwarehouse/industrialspace,12mhigheaves,theabilitytoinstallcranage, excellent yard space and parkingfacilities.Theofficecontentwill

The firm, one of the region’s leading suppliers of iT and communications services, has been working for the region’s most successful Peugeot dealership simon Bailes Peugeot, across the company’s four sites in northallerton, guisborough and stockton.

The contract has included a major upgrade to the dealerships’ PC technology network as well as a new Internet infrastructure and enhanced secure Wi-Fi connectivity for staff and visitors.

Advantex has already installed internet-based telephony and data cabling but has won this second phase of work after proposing a proactive solution to further improve services.

Advantex’s head of IT John Prescott said: “This exciting project will see touchscreen PCs installed and connected in their showrooms to

enable customers to interactively select and build their own cars.

“The showrooms will be securely connected together to allow the Simon Bailes Peugeot teams to better communicate with each other, allowing stafftoflexiblyworkanywherewithaccessto all their emails and documents.“

A third phase of work will see the expansion of the existing internet-based phoneservices(VoIP)totheNorthallertonshowroom and the ability to call from site to site to reduce telecom costs and provide reliable and fast communications for the company.

Elsewhere, a deal has been won with Prudhoe-based manufacturers and suppliers of unlicensed medicines The SpecialsLaboratory.InternetProtocol(IP)cameras, telecommunications, callrecording, and ICT support services are

There, Advantex is installing a new IT infrastructure and IP telecommunications system, which it will also manage as part of an on-going service and maintenance agreement.

The contracts are the latest success for Advantex, which is looking to boost currentturnoverof£4millionby20%inthenext year and expand its workforce of 45 people as work starts to ramp-up in the coming months.

Managing director, Simon Bailes, said: “We’re currently undergoing a period of development and investing heavily in our operations systems so that we can continually provide the highest levels of customer service.

“Advantex is helping us to do exactly that and has been exceptionally proactive in developing our systems.

“This latest investment will allow us to move forward with our growth plans across our four sites and help to secure our capacity for growth and expansion as we ramp up to meet customer demand for new cars over the next few years.“

Director Stephen O’Connell said: “These and other contract wins have seen the value of using us as a single source supplier of state-of-the-art technology and services.

“Our success has been achieved through sheer hard work, investing in skilled people and an on-going commitment toprovidingclientswithahighquality, cost effective and proactive service.“

ran for decades as a brewery pub serving traditional pub food, in was taken over in late 2014 by david Bennison. The building’s interior has been given a facelift and the kitchen has been opened up so it is visible to all who enter.

My husband and I decided to try out the new menu on a rare date night one Saturday evening. On arrival we were greeted by very friendly staff and seated at our table. We were offered drinks from the bar and left to peruse the menu. After hearing a lot about the Hot Rock Grill my husband was greatly looking forward to trying it out for himself.

The menu is extensive and varied, boasting a range of starters, pizza and pasta dishes as well as more traditional pubfoodincludingfish&chips, mince &dumplings, curry&riceandsteak &alepie.Themenualsoincludeshot or cold sandwiches for those in search of a lighter bite, side orders and a lovely list of desserts to try too.

The starters arrived beautifully presented on wooden boards and were both accompanied by a rocket salad. My husband opted for the chicken wings on fire, whichhesaidweremeatyandfull offlavour, whilstIoptedforbrushetta. As starters go I wasn’t expecting anything spectacular, however I can honestly say it’s the nicest brushetta I have ever

tasted. The bread was perfectly toasted, the topping was the right combination of tomatoes and onion and the dressing finishedoffsuperbly.

For main course my husband opted for theHotRockfilletsteak.Hewasofferedachoice of sauces and was able to choose two side orders from the list to go with it. He decided on his favourite peppercorn sauce with chips and salad. It arrived at the table in dramatic style, sizzling and steaming away on a hot rock heated to over 400 C. A plate was provided to put his steak on when it was cooked to his desiredspecification, ofwhichthewaitresswas extremely knowledgeable over just howlongamediumsteakrequiredtobecooked. The verdict on the hot rock was a positive one, my husband enjoyed cooking his own steak and he said the home cooked chips he had were amazing.

After changing my mind several times due to the menu containing so many things

Iwantedtotry,Ifinallydecidedtogowiththe pizza ring. This is a different take on a half pizza / half pasta option with the pasta being served in a bowl in the centre of the cut out pizza. The pizza was freshly cooked and was very tasty but the pasta was heavenly. I chose the pepperanta and it was so delicious I didn’t want it to end!

We decided that since we were out for the evening we may as well go all out and have dessert as well. I chose the knicker bocker glory which came packed full of juicy berries, meringue, cream and ice-cream, it was so refreshing and the perfect ending to my meal. My husband opted for the syrup sponge which he found to be light, moist and totally delicious.

OuroverallexperienceoftheMarquiswasa fantastic one. The atmosphere is lovely, the staff are friendly and helpful, the decor is warm and cosy and the food is absolutely amazing. We loved every minute of our timethereandwilldefinitelybeback!

The CBi’s great Business debate (its campaign to increase public trust in business) recently published a Yougov survey of over four thousand people, including 172 in the north East. it shows that, when people’s feelings about businesses are determined by their direct experience, they are overwhelmingly positive but that this often fails to translate into support for business generally.

In the North East 81% of people trust ‘localbusinesses’(firmsintheirvicinity, big orsmall,thattheyinteractwith)comparedwith62%whotrustbusinessoverall.Thatmatches a pattern for the whole UK where thefigureswere81%and57%.

The CBI is encouraging individuals to recognise that contradiction and calling on businesses to go further in strengthening their engagement with the areas where they operate. It is also calling on businesses to tell the bigger story of their contribution to communities, jobs and investment more convincingly.

Dianne Sharp, CBI North East Director, said: “Businesses here have a job to do using the

warmth felt for them at a local level to improve feelings about UK business as a whole.

“When people have direct experience of companies, for example as customers or employees, it’s overwhelmingly good and trust is high as a result. But opinions about business generally seem to have less solid roots. These views are more likely to be influencedbythingspeoplereadorhearsecond hand and are a lot less positive.

“As part of the CBI’s trust-in-business campaign, The Great Business Debate, we’re challenging individuals to think about the contradiction in how they perceive businesses locally and business generally. We’re also callingonfirmsintheNorthEasttobuildonthe positive engagement they already have in the areas where they operate and to tell more convincingly the story of their impact on jobs, investment and taxes which is felt in communities all over the country.”

GATESHEAD HOUR

TwITTER Uk HAS 15 MILLION FOLLOwERS

Her website www.theonlinehour.com provides tools and resources for followers of Twitter Hours up and down the country and it was this along with her activity on the Twitter platform that attracted the attention of Twitter uk hence the invitation to their london HQ to meet Twitters director of small Business for EMEa (Europe Middle East and africa) Mr Barry Collins.

Debra spent two days with the Twitter team and did a total of eleven radio interviews alongside Barry Collins. she described her visit to the high- spec hightechTwitterofficesasanincredibleexperience and said “on arriving at reception and noticing a Dalek on duty I just knew it was going to be one to remember and Twitter did not disappoint”

The purpose of the trip was linked to Small Business Saturday UK, a grassroots, non political, non commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to shop local and support small businesses in their communities Small Business Saturday

UKtakesplaceonthefirstshoppingSaturday in December each year and the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on small businesses year on year.

During the radio interviews Debra and Barry discussed how and why small businesses should and could get involved with #SmallBizSatUK and more importantlythebenefitsofusingTwitterforsmall business, not least because it’s free to everyone and can be used as an effective marketing tool.

Driven by her passion to see every large town and city across the globe (with accesstointernet)launchitsownregionalTwitter Hour the phenomenon is certainly gatheringmomentum.In2011therewere a handful of Twitter Hours operating, bytheendof2014thatnumberhadincreased to 500 plus across the UK alone.

Described as an “outstanding social communicator” Debra explains how business owners using Twitter need to put down the digital megaphone, stop shouting about their business, start

building relationships instead and see the value of being social in every aspect of their lives. In this “social age” businesses must care about more than their bottom line. They must give back, provide mentorship and care about real social issues. They must act consistently and collaboratively, share what they know and really connect with people.

Customers are so fed up with hype and sales talk they are now looking for the heart in a business. They want to know whoisbehindthebrandandthisrequiresopenness and transparency from business owners. Information about a business can be found easily online but in this social age that’s no longer enough. People want more than information, they want aconnectionandoneofthequickestand easiest way to begin making these connections is through Twitter.
