The Good Person of Szechwan By Bertolt Brecht
23 to 27 Jan 2018
Jolly musical parable from the master of C20th drama. The gods come to earth in search of a truly good person. They find Shen Te, a kind-hearted but penniless prostitute. Despite the gods’ help, her goodness brings only ruin. Can a person remain good in an evil world?
The Hollow By Agatha Christie
26 to 30 June 2018
An unhappy game of romantic follow-the-leader explodes into murder one weekend at The Hollow, home of Sir Henry and Lucy Angkatell. When one of the guests is shot dead the list of romantic associations grows, as does
the list of suspects. Nearly everyone has a motive but only one of them did the deed...

Bury Theatre Workshop is a community theatre group
formed in February 2012 from a group of theatre
enthusiasts, actors, writers and directors, eager to give
voice to the creative and dynamic performing spirit of the
community of Bury St Edmunds and its surroundings.
Through our lively programme of plays, workshops and
readings we offer opportunities to learn from each other
and to develop our community’s experiences of theatre
both as audience members and as participants.
With over 50 members, from 16 years upwards, we
produce two plays a year at the Theatre Royal, three in our
‘Studio venue’ of the Unitarian Meeting House and our now
well established ‘Shakespeare in the Park’ production in the
Abbey Gardens, Bury St Edmunds, and at the Museum of
East Anglian Life, Stowmarket. Have a look through our
varied programme for 2017/18 and hopefully you’ll find
something you’ll enjoy!
Membership fees are kept to the absolute minimum in
order to encourage all members of our community. So, if
you enjoy theatre why not come along and take part?
Whatever you have to offer, either on or off stage, you will
be more than welcome!

Tartuffe
By Moliere
5,6 & 7 October 2017
One of Moliere’s best known comedies, Tartuffe
is an entertaining tale of hypocrisy, trickery and
comeuppance. First performed in 1664 for Louis
XIV at Versailles, the play was originally banned
because the central figure feigns moral and reli-
gious virtue for his own ends. Enchanting period
drama from France’s own ’Shakespeare’.
Tomb with a View
By Norman Robbins
16, 17 & 18 November 2017
In a sinister old library, presided over by the por-
trait of a grim-faced, old man, a dusty lawyer
reads a will to an equally sinister family... Are
they all what they seem? The plot twists and
turns to its surprising conclusion in this comedy
thriller, perfect for the long, dark evenings.

‘The quality of mercy is not strained…’
Shakespeare in the Park 2018
Our 7th outdoor Shakespeare production, now a regular and much loved feature of the West Suf-folk theatre goer’s calendar. Bring a picnic and enjoy classic Shakespeare in beautiful surround-ings. The Merchant of Venice is Shakespeare’s classic tale of love, law and the perils of short term, high interest borrowing. The play is a hugely entertaining drama performed in the ‘original’ early C17th style. Best enjoyed with family and friends and a glass of something in the sun-shine...
Animal Farm By George Orwell, adapted by Sir Peter Hall
12, 13 & 14 April 2018
After the Animal Revolution, the pigs lead the rest
of the farm against attack from the outside (man)
and within (dissent). One pig rises to the top and
reorganizes the government. But how does his
edict, ‘all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others’ really work? Entertaining satire
and a ‘fusion of political and artistic purpose’.
