OBJECTIVE

Computer related position in which I can utilize my skills in developing and maintaining software and hardware for digital electronics, computers, and networks.

BACKGROUND

Experienced in developing real time data acquisition systems, maintaining computers and networks on various types of platforms excelling at identifying the source of a problem and providing or developing a solution.

EXPERIENCE

Contractor 12/98-1/2016Provided help and support by troubleshooting software problems on the phone for Windows 7, XP, and NT 4.0 on a 2008, 2003 and 2000 Server network supporting Microsoft Office 2003, 2010 and other software at the Patent and Trademark Office. Support the Trademark Work at Home users connecting in using a VPN connection with Riverbed Steelhead Mobile accelerator compression. Helped with Remote Desktop connection into a Virtual Machine running VMWare or using Citrix. Track trouble tickets in a Remedy database. Also trained new employees at the helpdesk. Was a VAX System and WAN Manager. Built Windows NT machines and set up security to correspond to NSA guidelines. Networked medical instruments to a PC interfaced to an Alpha server. Set up terminals and PCs to use Citrix Metaframe software.

Information Systems Manager - Autostrade International of VA O&M 05/95-11/98Ran the Information Systems Department whose responsibility includes all the computer equipment in the company. Designed and implemented a LAN with remote dial up capability. I had Windows NT server and Exchange installed on two Micron PC servers. The clients were a mixture of 80486s and Pentiums running Windows 95 with Microsoft Office using TCP/IP and NetBEUI. DHCP was used to provide IP addresses. Trained and helped company personnel as necessary. Repair and upgrade the PCs as required. A VAX cluster of three MicroVAX 3100-95s can also be reached. Pathworks is also installed on the cluster. Responsibility includes voice as well as data communications. Some phones were connected into a Norstar/Meridian key switch receiving Centranet services. Negotiated maintenance contracts and got competitive pricing for all software and hardware used. Wrote the plans (i.e. Information Systems Disaster Recovery Plan), policies, and procedures (i.e. backup) for the company’s computing needs and my department including position descriptions.

Consultant - Independent 06/92-05/95Worked in large (IBM, Booz-Allen & Hamilton, Wyeth Ayerst, Aydin Vector, and I-NET) and small (Young Design) companies doing things like writing DCL code while filling in as a System Manager/Administrator on VAXes and MicroVAXes. System Management included tuning, system monitoring, networking, Pathworks, and printers. Wrote programs

and firmware for the PC and the Intel 80C51 family in assembly, C, PASCAL, Visual Basic, and DOS batch. Projects were documented before leaving.

Senior Engineer - McDonnell Douglas, Engineering Lab 05/86-01/91 System Manager - MicroVAX IIs & IIIs with VMS 03/90-01/91

Expanded and maintained an Ethernet network which used Pathworks and DECNET. Software and boards were installed in various machines including PCs enabling them to communicate on a LAN.

Instrumentation Engineer - Wind Tunnel 04/89-03/90 Developed serial to parallel computer interfaces between data acquisition and monitoring systems based on an 87C51. The hardware was designed and the assembly code written that ran the boards. The boards were installed inside the computer, operation was tested and debugged, and then documented after verified to work within design constraints.

Development Engineer - Data Acquisition System 05/86-04/89 Developed a data system including analog and digital circuitry, hybrid layout and package design. System included signal conditioning, A/D conversion with programmable gain and zero offset capability, PCM serial conversion for output and RS-232C serial interface for a PC all run by an 87C51 microcontroller. Wrote a C code interface to the assembly code allowing an operator to setup and run a test.

Intern - 3M Company, Fiber Optic Lab 05/85-08/85Developed a process to measure optical fiber strength and computerize the data acquired allowing fiber strength to be quantized. A FORTRAN program was written and hardware developed to interface with a PDP-11 computer.

MILITARY

Inertial Navigation Technician - Missouri Air National Guard 01/89-12/91Maintained the F-4E inertial navigation system on the flightline and in the shop troubleshooting to the board level using technical manuals and test equipment.

Aviation Electronics Technician - United States Marine Corps, Avionics 11/80-08/82Maintained all electronic equipment installed on the TA-4F, TA-4J, and A-4M aircraft troubleshooting down to the defective black box with a schematic, multimeter, oscilloscope and other test equipment.
