A Fabulous Year

I would like to take the opportunity in the final newsletter of the school year to express my grateful thanks

to the whole of the school community for being totally fantastic in every way! I have thoroughly enjoyed my

first year at the helm and have quickly come to realise how lucky I am to be able to lead such a fabulous

staff team who are completely dedicated to doing the very best for every one of the children at Bures. I

have also benefitted from the balance of support and challenge which the Governors have provided to ensure

we stay on the right track—that they do this in a volunteer role never ceases to amaze me. The

welcome I received from you as parents (and grandparents and other carers) when I first arrived, helped me

to settle quickly and the fact that lots of you still regularly check that I am continuing to enjoy my role and

take the time to offer your help and feedback is much appreciated. Our links with people in the local

community are also growing and our link to both St. Mary’s and the Baptist Church is certainly highly valued.

However, it is the children who truly make this school the place I love to be on a daily basis and, though I am

looking forward to my summer holiday, I will be just as eager to return in September to begin another

momentous year. Thank you to all—I wish you all a relaxing and exciting summer and look forward to seeing

you in the new academic year. again refreshed and energised ready for new challenges!

So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehn, Goodbye!

It is with great sadness that we wish our Year 6 Leavers a fond farewell. They have been a fabulous bunch

and we know that they will go on to do great things in lots of different ways. They will all be greatly missed.

Year 6 parents are invited to see them off in style at our Leavers’ Assembly on Monday 23rd July at 2.15 pm.

Sadly, we are also saying goodbye to Mrs Whymark, Mr Griffiths and Mr Morris. Mrs Whymark will continue

to do all things musical—just not with us! Mr Griffiths is hoping to complete his teacher training over the

next year and Mr Morris heads off to China for an exciting teaching adventure. We wish them all the very

best of luck. They too will be greatly missed!

Church School Inspection

It feels like quite a long while ago that our Church School Inspection took place but I am very pleased to

say that the full report is now available on the school website (About Us tab —Ofsted and Performance

Data page). Some of the strengths highlighted within the report include:

“The Christian purpose, team work and enthusiasm to continually improve and embed Christian values…”

“Bures is a nurturing, positive family community, enriched and strengthened by an embedded and very

meaningful partnership with the church”

“… good communication with parents who speak highly of the impact of the school’s church values and

distinctiveness on their children.”

“Behaviour and learning attitudes demonstrate respect, tolerance and compassion towards both peers and

adults.”

“...the willingness and desire of governors and the local clergy to share their knowledge and support the

school in all aspects of its work both pastorally and spiritually.”

Areas to develop include—

Establishing a Christian distinctiveness group which will include pupils.

Creating a whole school reflection space and use this to embed links between collective worship and all

aspects of school life.

Providing further training for staff in

relation to aspects of Christian

distinctiveness and leadership.

Thank you to everyone in the school community

who played their part in providing evidence for

this successful report but particular thanks go to

Mrs Bacon our RE / Church School Lead who works

tirelessly to ensure our Christian distinctiveness is

recognised and valued by all.

Lost Property

We will display all lost property in the

playgroup on Monday and Tuesday. All

items left will be disposed of over the

summer holidays.

Collective Worship

Our Collective Worship week began on Monday when

Mrs Bennie talked about the courageous way in which

Jesus faced the temptations presented by the devil in

the dessert. The children were encouraged to think

about how they might be able to resist the temptations

they sometimes face.

On Tuesday the Open the Book Team shred my

favourite story about the three men in the fiery

Furnace and the angel God sent to take care of them. If

you don’t know it ask your children to tell you about it!

On Wednesday, we talked about fairness as we

celebrated ‘World Day for

International Justice’. We re-

flected on how often we say “It’s

not fair” and tried to think about

looking for ways to make things

‘fairer’ for those around us.

FORTHCOMING PSA EVENTS

AN END OF YEAR MESSAGE FROM BURES

PSA

What an amazing year we have had! We are very

proud to say that, since September, we have raised

a fantastic £6817.65 for our school.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us.

Whether you have helped to organise an event, given

your time to run a stall or activity, donated, baked,

bought, sold or volunteered in any way – we would like

to say a big THANK YOU!

Page 4: Bures C.E. Primary School Newsletters14035.pcdn.co/wp-content/uploads/20.7.18.pdf · looking forward to my summer holiday, I will be just as eager to return in September to begin

Our biggest fundraisers have been the Christmas Fair,

Quiz Night and Summer Fair, while our most popular

events (according to our recent survey) were the Disco

Night, the Royal Wedding Street Party and our weekly

Lolly and Ice cream stalls. In addition to these events,

we have organised toy and book stalls; held a coffee

morning and a bingo night; run an art competition and

the Smarties for Silver challenge; sold Christmas Cards

and Christmas Puddings; provided refreshments at

school events; held raffles and collected clothing, as

well as old £1 coins. Although it’s frequently been hard

work for those of us who organise and arrange these

events and activities, it’s all been so worthwhile.

We have also bought a new PSA shed and invested in some new equipment, in order that we can continue to

raise funds and support our school in the best possible way.

Going into next year, we will be contributing further towards the ongoing improvements to the school play-

ground and field. We have already booked a Circus Skills Workshop for all children next term and we will

be making a large contribution towards an exciting whole school trip in December, in order to significantly

reduce the cost of this for parents. We will, of course, also continue to fund our ongoing annual commit-

ments (such as Bikeability) and will ensure that all children benefit equally from our fundraising during

their time at Bures School.

Thank you, once again, for your ongoing support. We wish you a wonderful summer break and look forward

to seeing you all in September.

Yr 6’s

This week the Year 6 children not going on to TGS in Septem-

ber have enjoyed a varied week of activities arranged by Ms

Holtom as well as helping staff with a multitude of tasks to

prepare the school and classrooms ready for September.
