• Frequent stomach aches or
headaches.
• Difficulty sleeping.
• Feelings of helplessness and/or
decreased self-esteem.

• Sudden loss of friends.
• Changes in appe'te or ea'ng habits.
• Self-destruc've behaviors.

Everyone can help prevent bullying.
Teachers, parents, students, and school staff
members can:
• Teach and model kindness in school.
• Talk to children compassionately.
• Educate the community about how
bullying is a threat to a healthy society.
• Help kids understand bullying.
• Keep the lines of communica'on with
children open; check in o3en and be a
good listener.
• Teach kids that bullying is wrong.
TypesofBullying
Physical Bullying. This type of bullying occurs
most at schools. Examples include:
- Hi4ng.
- Pushing.
- Taking or breaking property.
Verbal Bullying. Verbal bullying can happen
prac'cally anywhere. Examples include:
- Name calling.
- Taun'ng.
- Threatening.
Emo�onal Bullying. Emo'onal bullying is
when someone makes others angry or afraid.
Examples include:
- Social exclusion or isola'on.
- Spreading rumors.
- In'mida'on.
Cyber Bullying. Cyber bullying takes place via
electronic technology, especially through
social media, by sending in'mida'ng or
aggressive messages.
EffectsofBullying
Twelve-year-old Rebecca Sedwick was har-
assed by a classmate over a boy they both
liked.
The girl sent Rebecca messages over Face-
book that were in'mida'ng and threatening.
Rebecca tried switching schools to get a
fresh start but was s'll being harassed
online.

to her death from a silo
tower.
