ÉditorialThe fall season was a lot like the summer one: beautiful, but much too short. Oh well. No rest for the weary! Between back-to-school activities, various meetings and reunions, the time just flew by. Not to mention all the planning we did and the progress we saw in the many wonderful projects that emerged here and there. A schoolyard was entirely refurbished and more time was set aside for physical activity. And what about our youngsters and their new WIXX attitude... “You can’t understand, you’re not in, you’re too old!” In short, we have a great program for getting in shape this winter, which, I have on good authority, promises to be a very snowy one!Denis Delbois

Interview with Linda Lacasse, Principal at École des Deux-Soleils, who’s planning a year-long experience in healthy habits with her theme: “Working together, staying in shape, pursuing our dreams.”
Memphré en Mouvement: You have a new theme this year. Where did you get the idea for this inspiring slogan?
Linda Lacasse: Our theme last year was “Living in harmony”. Throughout the year, we worked on building harmonious relations between peers and adults. A year-‐end assessment yielded very positive results. We wanted to keep the same theme, while adding something in line with our plan for success. Therefore, after many discussions, the school team ruled in favour of
“Working together, staying in shape, pursuing our dreams!”
“Working together”: in harmony, with respect for others’ differences, etc.“Staying in shape”: in keeping with healthy lifestyle habits.“Pursuing our dreams”: in keeping with the lip dub that took place at the end of last year with the help of the music teacher, and in line with school perseverance, something we work on every day.
MenM: Every year, students draw on these themes for their activities and their actions. Beyond words, then, do you think these themes have an impact outside the school itself?
L.L.: Absolutely. Our themes make their way into the homes. The kids talk to their parents about these themes and the parents in turn talk to us and sometimes even ask us questions! Moreover, whenever we get together, our students have a good understanding of their theme and have no difIiculty seeing how it relates to their daily life. They take what they’ve learned and apply it to what they’re experiencing. They’re very savvy!
MeM: What about the teaching staff? In what way is it involved?
L.L: As adults, we need to be role models for our young people. This is true not only for the teaching staff but for all members of the staff. It is our duty to help the students journey as far as they can on a personal as well as an educational level. The importance of education lies in helping the greatest number of students succeed!
Success = Effort X Achievement
MenM: Last year, we were treated to a fantastic lip dub. Can you give us a sneak preview of the program you’re planning for the end of this year?
L.L.: Throughout the year, we have activities in keeping with our theme as well as with school perseverance. But I prefer to keep the rest a surprise until the last minute. We even keep our students in suspense because we Iind they’re more likely to persevere!

Interview with Mario Schinck, from École Sainte-Marguerite, which has a brand new schoolyard and playground!
Memphré en Mouvement : When it comes to making improvements and modifying installations, schools are faced with dif0icult choices; what in0luenced your decision to refurbish your schoolyard?
Mario Schinck : Our Iirst priority was to change our playground equipment because it was outdated and even dangerous. Next, we decided to redo the asphalt and the lines in the schoolyard with showy colors... which drew very favourable comments. And Iinally, we wanted to incorporate greenery (by planting trees and laying peat) to provide a bit of shade on hot days. We also added a shed for storing equipment and punching balls, which will arrive shortly.
MeM : Who helped you 0inance and realize this big project?
MS : Our major partners were Excavation G. Leblanc, the City of Magog, the Ministère de lÉducation, du Loisir et du Sport, the Commission Scolaire des Sommets, the Caisse Memphrémagog, MPs Jean Charest and Pierre Reid, Aluminium Jocelyn Lapierre, Solution d’eau Stéphane Bourgelas, the school casino we organized in 2012, and other partners...
MeM : What were the biggest challenges you faced in putting together this project?
MS : There weren’t really any big challenges to overcome because everyone involved in the project was of one mind... but the
Iinancial aspect took up a lot of my time because I headed the Fundraising Campaign as well as the Schoolyard Committee. However, I put together a team to help me solicit donations...As for the realization of the project? The biggest challenge was to make sure the deadline for the work was met... Marise Cotnoir (the Principal) and I were responsible for supervising the work...
MeM : Other schools are very impressed with your results. What advice would you give them when it comes to the best conditions under which to undertake such a project?
MS : When you want to see a wonderful project like this one become a reality, you have to bring together as many people as possible to support the committee in charge of the project. I’m referring to the school staff and management, the parents, the community and Iinancial partners. We’re extremely proud of the fact that students, parents, the community, Iinancial partners, the school staff and other schools have all reacted so favourably to our project now that it’s completed...
