To strengthen him for the journey, God provides Elijah with cake and water, reminiscent of his ancestors’ Pasch. Thus he experiences the goodness of the Lord.

Gospel Reflection Gospel John 6:41-51

When a teacher introduces a completely new idea, students sometimes resist it. They may complain "I don't get it. It doesn't make sense to me.” When Jesus began teaching the Jews that he himself was the "bread that came down from heaven," they muttered and murmured in complaint. They thought they knew who Jesus was.

But Jesus responds by promising them that if they eat the living bread, they will live forever. He will give his flesh for the life of the world.

In the Eucharist, we experience the truth of Jesus' promise. We receive the living bread and know that we shall live forever.

What are some of the ways we can prepare to cele-brate Eucharist so that we experience this sacrament more fully? Evanglio Reflexión

Juan 6:41-51

Saturday August 15, 2015 is the feast of The Solemnity of the Assumption of the

Virgin Mary into Heaven

On this day, the universal Church celebrates what took place at the end of our Blessed Mother’s earthy life. We have no real knowledge of the day, year, and man-ner of Our Lady’s death. The dates which have been assigned to her death vary between three and fifteen years after Christ’s Ascension. Both Jerusalem and Ephesus claim to be the place where she died. (By tradition, Mary lived at Ephesus after the death of Jesus.) Mary’s tomb was presumably found in Jerusalem. It is believed that Mary died in the presence of all the Apos-tles, but that after her burial, her tomb, when opened, was found empty. Therefore, they concluded that her body had been taken up ( assumed) into heaven.

On November 1, 1950, Pope Pius XII declared as a dogma revealed by God that “Mary, the immaculate perpetually Virgin Mother of God, after the comple-tion of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into the glory of Heaven”. This dogma is the great antidote to materialism and the moral corruption that follows despair because in Mary’s Assumption we see and understand that, if we live with our gaze fixed on eternal goods, we will one day share in this same glory united to her Son. Please note: (The Assumption is a principal feast of the Blessed Virgin and a Holy Day Of Obligation. In the United States, in 1991, the US bishops amended the Church calendar by removing the obligation to attend Mass whenever August 15 falls on a Saturday or a Monday. Their action was approved by the Holy See in 1992.) ===========================================================================
