• Twitter is a real-time information network of people, ideas, stories and news

• Each post is called a Tweet• Each Tweet is 140 characters long – can include

photos, videos, web links and conversations• You don’t need to have an account to read Twitter• You need to have an account to post or ‘Tweet’• You can access Twitter anywhere, anytime!

How to Tweet – a brief guide• Use acronyms, abbrevs & short synonyms

– omg, bbq, PLN, we are/ we’re, discussion/ chat • Use clipping

– Short forms of common words (eg, &, etc)– Try removng the vowel, or cuttin non-essent punctuation/ letters

• Use verbs to give a call to action– Check out, read, look at, sign up, find out more

• Use web links– Give people a teaser and the web link for them to read more

• Join an existing conversation & build your following– Hashtag used for this program: #VicTPL– Use the @ symbol to talk to others: @DEECD @innovatehere– Retweet (RT) or Direct Message (DM) others

How to use your Twitter account• Go to your Twitter app or www.twitter.com• Click sign in (or sign up)

– Account: [youraccountname] choose something professional– Password: [yourpassword] choose one you’ll remember!

• Write something in the ‘what’s happening’ Tweet window (or click this button to open a Tweet window)

• Compose your message introduce yourself/ say hello!• Click Tweet to publish your message• Remember:

– Any tweet you post in this window can be seen by anyone!– The only private messages are ‘Direct Messages’

• Tip: use #, @, RT, web links, action verbs…
