DMX master/slave for lighting and stage equipmentBeckhoff has integrated an additional building automation subsystem in the EtherCAT Terminal system with the EL6851 DMX terminal. As a DMX master, the terminal allows the direct connection of up to 32 DMX devices. New: The EL6851-0010 EtherCAT Termi-nal is a DMX slave and can receive up to 512 bytes of data. The DMX slave receives data from a DMX master and transmits them to the application via EtherCAT. In this way, non-DMX-capable devices, like DALI lamps or dimmer terminals, can also be addressed.
EnOcean radio technologyIn conjunction with the KL6583 EnOcean transmitter and receiver module, the new Beckhoff KL6581 EnOcean master terminal offers greater fl exibil-ity in terms of planning and bidirectional communication. The range of the battery-free transmitter and receiver is extendable up to a maximum data bus length of 500 m (1640 ft) with the connection of up to eight EnOcean modules to the master terminal.

More effi cient manual/emergency operationThe Bus Terminals, with switches or potentiometers, function as operat-ing devices for changing process data independently of the controller. Embedded PC CX8090: New intelligence for auto-mated buildings
The Embedded PCs in the compact CX8000 series are currently Beckhoff’s ‘smallest’ PC-based controllers – as a result, PC Control is taking greater hold in the lower categories of control, including the budget price segment. The new CX8090, equipped with Ethernet inter-face and direct connection to the Beckhoff I/O systems for data acquisition, are ideal for a wide range of tasks as a powerful small controller: as a building controller, a room/area controller or as decentralised intelligence for the control of HVAC, lighting and facades. PC Control for all types of buildings
TwinCAT Solar Position AlgorithmUsing the TwinCAT PLC library “Solar Position Algorithm”, it is possible to determine the precise position of the sun at any time and anywhere. This way, among other things, optimum utilisation of the solar irradiation can be achieved by the use of automatically alignable solar or photovoltaic systems. In addition to that, the times for sunrise, solar apex and sunset can be deter-mined. In order to determine the angle of the sun’s position using the TwinCAT library, it is necessary to specify the date, time, the geographical longitude and latitude of the site and – depending upon the desired accuracy – other param-eters as well. Thus, the algorithm employed can also take physical variables into account, such as the average air temperature or the average atmospheric pressure. The developed function block has a maximum inaccuracy of ± 0.001° for the determination of the sun angle.

BACnet/IP supplements open control solutionThe Beckhoff PC-based control technology for build-ing automation primarily employs the world standard Ethernet TCP/IP for communication from the manage-ment to the fi eld level. In addition to further Ethernet-based communication protocols, such as Modbus TCP, PROFINET and EtherCAT, the integration of BACnet/IP adds a further standard for the networking of the dif-ferent systems, thus extending the area of application of the open control technology. Beckhoff integrates BACnet/IP as a pure soft-ware solution into its TwinCAT automation suite.

The BACnet/IP Server and Client are executable on all Beckhoff Industrial PCs and Embedded PCs. This means that every Beckhoff Embedded PC becomes a BACnet controller with the software extension. Since the I/O level (Bus Terminals or EtherCAT Terminals) can be add-ed directly to the modular Embedded PCs, the compre-hensive range of Bus Terminals with over 400 different signal types is also available for BACnet applications. The BACnet solution for TwinCAT supports all services of a BBC device (BACnet Building Controller).

TwinCAT FIAS ServerThe FIAS protocol (Fidelio Interface and Application Specifi cation) is of great importance worldwide for software packages in the fi eld of hotel management; above all, this protocol plays an increasingly important role in applications in large hotels. The “TwinCAT FIAS Server” software package allows access to systems compliant with the FIAS standard. With a direct FIAS interface, it enables smooth communication between hotel management system and PLC via TCP/IP and offers many advantages for networked systems and room automation. For example, energy effi ciency can be improved by the automation system reacting automatically to the room occupation schedule of the hotel management system: the air conditioning is adapted accordingly if the room is not occupied, or the sun shade is automatically activated in strong sunlight in the summer.
