I loved to open the window even when it was cold so that I could hear him snore. The sound of him snoring would help me fall asleep. I love Primo and we will miss him very much. Primo was a huge part of our lives! It was very disturbing when we found out that Primo had cancer and most likely wouldn’t make it. Even though it was sad and heart breaking news, I know Primo’s in a better place. Love you Primo. Cheyanne. Primo was a good dog. He was always loving. He loved to play and jump. When we were bored, we would go play with him. He was a fun dog. We will always miss him. Haley Family Pets Primo: 5/26/06-9/23/13 Research shows that dogs and cats may make kids healthier. Children who live in a home with a pet during their Girst year of life are more likely to be healthier. The pets build up the immunity system in the children due to the exposure to dirt that is brought in from pets who go in and out of the homes. Ear infections and respiratory problems occur less often in homes with these pets. Zachary and Frankie do a little bonding

Book  Review“The Connected Child: Bring Hope and Healing to Your Adoptive Family” by Karyn Purvis, David Cross and Wendy Sunshine gives readers a look at the feelings and the dynamics of children from broken homes. I think this book did a great job of providing both foster and prospective adoptive parents with insight into the inner workings of a hurt child's mind. In addition to giving parents information of what to expect, look for and recognize, the book also does a very nice job of directing parents how to make positive changes that will further the bonding needed to truly heal. I highly recommend this book as a resource to all KBYH families!

Foster  Children  of  the  Month-‐Amber  A

Kern Bridges Youth Homes is proud to present Amber A. as Foster Child for the Month of October. Amber attends Shafter High School. She is a bright young lady who has maintained high grades and has passed her high school exit exam with flying colors. Amber not only enjoys school but is actively involved in after-school activities, Bible study and Independent Living Program (ILP) classes. Amber enjoys animals and hopes to become a veterinarian. Amber is a cheerful person who easily makes friends and enjoys life. We wish her the very best in the future. Congratulations on your selection as child of the month.

Foster  Parents  of  the  Month-‐The  Montoya  family

Unconditional love for Jesse F.:

On 9-24-13 at 3 PM, Jesse was taken to Shafter Medical Clinic for elevated fever and difficulty breathing. He was given medication and Mrs. Montoya was instructed to take him to San Joaquin ER if his symptoms got worse. On 9-25-13, at 1AM, Jesse was taken to San Joaquin ER. Although Jesse was admitted to the Pediatric Ward at 9AM, he did not get a room until 2:30PM. At 2:30AM, Ninfa was relieved by Jose, who stayed with Jesse until 9-26-13 at 10 AM. He was again relieved by Ninfa, who stayed with Jesse until he was discharged at 6:30PM. Ninfa took Jesse to his follow-up discharge visit on 9-27-13. We are happy to report that Jesse is well and back to his normal self. Thank you to the Montoya family for your extraordinary efforts and care.

Another Word On Safety PAGE4

www.kernbridges.com PH 661-396-2301 FAX 661-396-2349

Wet weather is approaching. Please conduct a survey of living areas and outside for safety. Tile becomes a safety hazard when wet. Wet driveways and sidewalks become slippery. It is a good idea to review first-aid for body injuries due to falls.

Halloween is quickly approaching. Remember, there are many children at night time involved in Trick or Treat. Many costumes are dark colors and difficult to see. Use lights and always stop and look for vehicles when crossing streets. We hope you have a Happy and safe Halloween.
