IT’S BEEN AWHILE

The Sabres are looking for their first win against the Avalanche since Dec. 4, 2005, a 6-4 win in Colorado.

Cody McCormick and Alex Tanguay, who each suited up for the Avalanche in the that game, are the only players to play in the

contest who are on either team’s roster today. Daniel Briere was scratched for the Sabres.

At over nine years, the Sabres’ drought against the Avalanche is their longest against any opponent.

While the Avalanche have won the last seven matchups with the Sabres, four were decided in either overtime (once) or a shootout

(three times).

Buffalo’s four-game losing streak (0-2-2) at home against the Avalanche since the Sabres’ win on March 24, 2003 is the longest in

franchise history against Colorado/Quebec.  BACK-TO-BACKTonight’s game opens up Buffalo’s eighth of 19 sets of back-to-back games this season, which will conclude tomorrow at BOS. TheSabres are 2-5-0 in the first game of back-to-back sets and 3-4-0 in the second game. Buffalo’s point breakdown in previous back-to-back sets is: four points (1), three points (0), two points (3), one point (0) and zero points (3). HEATING UP BEFORE WINTER

The Sabres are 10-4-0 in their last 14 games, winning 10 games in a 14-game span for the first time since the last 14 games of a 15

game stretch from Feb. 29 to March 27, 2012 in which they went 11-2-2. The Sabres will look to make it 11 wins in 15 games tonight

for the first time since that same stretch.

With a .500 record (6-6-1) in November, the Sabres had their best month since they went 5-5-2 in December 2013. The 13 points

earned by the team last month was Buffalo’s highest total in a month since the team went 8-4-0 in April 2013.  LOGGING BIG MINUTESEntering Friday night’s games, Tyler Myers ranks ninth in the league with an average time on ice of 25:45 per game. STUART PLAYS 1,000TH GAME Brad Stuart appeared in his 1,000th NHL game on Thursday night in Pittsburgh.  He became the 293rd player in NHL history – and100th defenseman – to reach that milestone.  The Rocky Mountain House, Alberta native joined Adam Foote, Todd Gill, Milan Hejduk,Ian Laperriere, Patrick Roy and Joe Sakic as the only players to appear in their 1,000th NHL contest as a member of the Avalanche.Stuart is in his first season with Colorado after being acquired from San Jose on July 1, 2014.  He was scheduled to play his 1,000thgame on his 35th birthday, Nov. 6, but suffered a hamstring injury on Nov. 4 which forced him to sit out 16 games.  Selected thirdoverall by San Jose in the first round of the 1998 Entry Draft, Stuart is the fifth player from that draft class to reach the 1,000-gamesmark, joining Vincent Lecavalier (1,123), Robyn Regehr (1,052), Brad Richards (1,014) and David Legwand (1,008). PICKARD SETS AVS ROOKIE SAVES MARK Calvin Pickard stopped 47 shots in Thursday’s 1-0 overtime loss to Pittsburgh, the most saves by a rookie goaltender in Avalanchehistory.  He eclipsed the previous mark of 46 stops set by Marc Denis against Calgary on Nov. 27, 1999.  Pickard fell three short of thefranchise record for saves by a rookie netminder (50) set by Quebec’s Clint Malarchuk on March 20, 1983 at Winnipeg.
