THE DEGREE IN INTERNATIONAL FINANcIAL SERvIcES The BSc (Hons) International Financial Services degree has been designed to provide students with a broad and comprehensive understanding of international financial services, laying the groundwork for a successful career in this area or a related discipline such as law and accounting. We want our students to be the leaders of the future. With that end in mind the BSc (Hons) International Financial Services degree is both vocational in orientation and at the same time recognises the need for academic rigour in a range of technical subject areas.

As a student of the Jersey International Business School you are automatically drawn into the front line of scholarship in order to learn how to think critically. We do not want you to simply absorb knowledge, but also to analyse and deploy it.

This is a full QAA Benchmarked 360 credit degree leading to the designation BSc (Hons). It is not a foundation degree. The degree is studied full-time over two years following a four-term-per-annum model.

The degree rejects the silo approach towards academic study by including a range of subject areas in addition to pure financial services including:

■■ Law ■ Taxation

■■ Accounting ■ Compliance and risk management

■■ Economics ■ Marketing

Ben, HSBC Undergraduate Employment ProgrammeBSc (Hons) International Financial Services student

Niall, rBS International Undergraduate Employment Programme BSc (Hons) International Financial Services student

I’ve learnt so much about the day-to-day running of the business and how much work goes in to making it one of the largest banks in the world. I have had the opportunity to be a part of so many things, including the creation of a tool that allows advisors to quickly check whether the person they are speaking to can be given advice, and so speeds up the whole process. This was a great project to be part of. Doing this degree has allowed me to get the best out of both worlds when it comes to education and the work place.

Working at RBS International has been fantastic, as I am learning so much from my colleagues and participating in a number of varied and interesting projects. The skills I am learning through the placement are invaluable to my future career path as they can be transferred into different areas of any business.

The opportunities available in financial services in Jersey are second to none, attracting a diverse range of people from around the world. At present I’m working in Retail and International Personal Banking and will soon be moving to Operations. The chance to rotate through the business provides a great opportunity to understand how the different divisions of a bank work together.
