Off to a Great Start
A great BIG thank you to all parents, family members, and staff members for all of the preparation necessary to make the students of our preschool feel comfortable with the beginning of school. The beginning of any new adventure can sometimes be traumatic, stressful, and exciting all at the same time.
The efforts are paying off. The students are quickly getting into the school routine. Thanks for being a great encouragement to them. We hope you continue to play a very active part in your child's education. You are encouraged to speak with preschool staff with questions and concerns about your child or our program. The school office phone is 419-633-6250.
Parenting Tips If you want to limit your youngster's TV time, try this. Every week, give him/her 7 slips of
paper or tickets. Each is good for 1/2 or 1 hour of TV. Remind them to plan ahead. For
example, if they want to watch a long program on Saturday, they will need to save extra
tickets during the week. Looking for a fun way to increase
concentration? Try this game. The first player makes one motion, like clapping or spinning around. The second copies that motion and adds another movement. Continue adding
movements until someone forgets the sequence. The last player to get it right starts a
new game.
Safety First • Keep your child safe at school with
these clothing tips. Have him/her wear shoes that fit properly and either
tie or velcro. They're less likely to cause accidents than floppy shoes such
as sandals. Remember, sandals that are not attached at the heel are not to be worn to school. Also, avoid baggy
clothes and cords or strings on clothing that can get caught in
playground equipment.
Routines for Learning • When parents are involved in learning, children are more successful. Help your
youngsters get off to a good start in school by creating habits like these at home:
• Remind your children of rules such as "reading before play or television." This shows them that learning is a top priority.
Also, give them a comfortable place to read or draw without distractions.
• Make time each day to look over school papers with your youngsters. Be on the
lookout for notes from their teachers, and mark important dates on the calendar.
• Sharing at dinnertime is an activity that can go beyond passing the platter. Ask your children to think of one new thing they
learned during the day. It might spark an interesting conversation among everyone at
the table.
School Picture Retakes • Prospect Acres Photography will be at
school Thursday, October 24 to offer retakes. If the original pictures taken are not satisfactory, please return the pictures
to school on retake day. • Parent/Teacher Conferences
• In the near future, parents of typical peers will receive planning information to set up a parent/teacher conference time for
Novemeber 5, 7, & 12. School will be in session all of those dates. Time for the conferences are listed under Important
Dates. The conferences are intended for typical peers only on these dates.
• Conferences for identified children will be November 18-19. Student Individual Education Plans or IEP's, will be updated
during the November conferences. Information on the November
conferences will be sent to everyone involved at a later date.
